I idly looked at the sale rail at our local branch. I wasn't looking for anything in particular but a pair of trousers caught my eye. I really liked them. They fitted perfectly. All shocks so far but the biggest was the price £4.79!
I would have paid full price of £30 for them as I like them so much.
Not often things like that happen! Good old Marks. Still got it!

This week I have kitted out my little GGD in dresses and cardigans for next summer for less than £20.00 for 6 dress and 4 cardigans I would have paid £132,50 if I had paid full price all nice colours and girly styles her mummy is delighted so am I.

Never found a decent bargain there

Either colour, fit or fabric completely wrong. Cannot eulogise the quality of anything
The knickers, for example, at any price are so ill-fitting and uncomfortable

I am very lucky that I bought loads of clothes elsewhere in the past and am not particularly worried over the fact that they are not overly fashionable. They fit, are comfortable and are of good quality and, yes.... most of them were bought in sales run by other companies that are more aware of a customer and her needs

We buy all our clothes on ebay! New or hardly used there is a tremendous range from which to choose (far more than in the shops if I could get to them!). Rich people buy far too much or on a whim and many are shifting them on using ebay which suits me...

I've often got great buys in M and S ,best was a trench coat,£140 for £20 ,great quality

My daughter is an area manager for M&S. Yes they have been a struggling with clothing sales and are clearing out older stock which was put into stores by a previous buyer. Think you'll find over the coming year that there'll be more of the classics with a modern twist, rather than the high fashion items they were putting into the stores. They finally seem to have realised that their target market is still 40+ ! Unfortunately I haven't had time to go find a thing in the sales; too busy looking after DGD. Thought retirement was supposed to be relaxing!

Went to meet ex colleagues last week in Liverpool, on way popped into M&S bought a size 14 jacket for £19. When I got to the restaurant 3 of the others had bought lovely dresses for £7 each they bought a couple each for holidays. After the meal some of then went back to the store again! Not me I was more than pleased with my jacket.

I can top Jane10's story. Not so long ago I found a pair of trousers in my size (and length!) at M&S that were marked down to £5. Not my style, but I thought they'd do for around the house. When I got to the checkout, the girl frowned and said, "Oh, I'm sorry, this is the wrong price… they're actually £1.50. Do you still want them?"!

Went to M&S recently to find new denim jeans to replace my tired old ones. Found perfect size, went to try them on and found they had button fly! How many women wear button flyed trousers??? Still looking for the perfect jeans...

In Marks I have bought clothes between size 14 and 18, depending on the fit. I cannot find anything I like in the sales in those sizes as they are popular.
My daughter is a size 8 to 10 so is always pleased at the bargains I get her. Once she had a big works dinner, and she was complimented on her outfit by many people. 6 pound dress, 3 pound shoes and 4 pound handbag. All from the sales, and I bought and the last two items from Marks. She owned up to a works friend that I had bought these things, and she jokingly asked if I would do the same for her.
The LBD that I bought I bought in the sales was very handy as my daughter had some big bills to pay that month. Shame I cannot get much for myself.

I used to have to buy size 8 for my MiL. Lots of 'wee wimmin' about!
A huge chain store must have awful difficulty keeping all the customers happy all the time !sunshine

CyBele Sun 06-Aug-17 11:26:17

Quite agree Crazygrandma2. I recently looked for a pair of summer pyjamas, they had none in a size 14 but dozens in size 8. Does it not occur to them that most size 8's are young girls/women and they don't shop in M&S.

Shopping with a friend in a large MS store recently she had to complain to a supervisor about the state of the toilets. They looked as if they hadn't been cleaned for days. Awful. Then I sat down in a fitting cubicle to remove my shoes and was shocked at the amount of build up of dust andrubbish underthebench. Not nice.

I'm glad so many people are loving the bargains they find in M and S.

But I have been annoyed to find something I paid full price for, in the sale the next day!!
One thing was an expensive jacket. This has happened to me a couple of times so now I never buy anything from there at the full price any more as the sales seem to be so frequent.

Chewbacca Sun 06-Aug-17 10:59:47

I got my bargains in an ordinary high street branch NfK. There isn't an outlet near me anyway.

Jane10 Sun 06-Aug-17 10:55:41

Are their sales always this good? Maybe they're having a massive clear out , everything must go, sort of thing. Good luck to them. I always liked M&S but just haven't even looked at their stuff recently.
1p for cashmere? Amazing!

NfkDumpling Sun 06-Aug-17 10:49:09

Where are these M&S outlets? I didn't know they existed.

Chewbacca Sun 06-Aug-17 10:47:50

I've had some excellent bargains in the baby & children's department this week. So many items were marked down to £1.29 from £22.00, and more. When I got home I counted up that, at full price, my purchases would have cost £109.97. I paid £14.97.
Are M&S struggling in the clothing depts and that's why their reductions are so high?

Diddy1 Sun 06-Aug-17 10:37:54

Well done Jane, what a lovely surprise.

angie95 Sun 06-Aug-17 10:23:43

Yes, I love it went someone finds a bargain, well dome Jane10 xx
I think I will have to start looking in M&S X
1p for a sweater, oh that is so good!!

narrowboatnan Sun 06-Aug-17 10:16:20

Right. If anyone wants me I'll be in M&S...

pamdixon Sun 06-Aug-17 10:13:55

I managed to get 2 really nice tops in my local M & S sale too, a few days ago - all came to £8 - vastly reduced. Never happened to me before either.......... But I know I'll get a lot of wear out of them. Lucky all of us that have had similar sale purchases...obviously a rare occurrence!!

Harris27 Sun 06-Aug-17 09:56:12

I shop st gateshead metro store and always loved it till now went yesterday for sons wedding just a top fir night do and the store is full of furniture! Gone right back unless you need a new bed!

Crazygrandma2 Sun 06-Aug-17 09:55:14

I should also have added that my other cardinal sin is being 5ft 8ins with the accompanying long legs. Last week I went into Peacocks looking for something for the GC and bought two pair of full priced jeans, excellent fit for £32. Another nail in M&S coffin!

Crazygrandma2 Sun 06-Aug-17 09:52:02

I'd be shocked if M&S had something in store that I liked and it was in my size. I'm not talking about the sales rails. Size 14 is obviously a popular size but they still can't get their head around the fact that means they need to order more of them. After several years of being disappointed I've given up on them! The sale rails tell it all, loads of sizes at each end of the spectrum but none in the middle

hilarious Sun 06-Aug-17 09:39:11

I once saw a cashmere sweater in my size on the reduced rail in M&S Chester. It was not priced but when I took it to the cash desk it seemed to cause problems. After calling for a supervisor she told me that it was priced at 1p as it was the last one in the store. After feeling very smug to spot it I eventually shrunk it by accidentally adding it to a hot wash.
