I idly looked at the sale rail at our local branch. I wasn't looking for anything in particular but a pair of trousers caught my eye. I really liked them. They fitted perfectly. All shocks so far but the biggest was the price £4.79!
I would have paid full price of £30 for them as I like them so much.
Not often things like that happen! Good old Marks. Still got it!

Lucky find. Usually if I find something like that it's in the wrong size.

Lucky you Jane I find that all the bargains are in either size 10 or size 20, fine if they are your sizes, but hard luck for anybody else.grin

It's never happened to me before. Doubt it ever will again!

Norah Sat 05-Aug-17 14:48:15

Lovely. I hate to shop so this never happens to me.

I just picked up a pair of trousers this morning and they were £3. I am delighted, as I would have paid a lot more for them.
I recently picked up a silk blouse for £5 in our M&S outlet . The original price tag of £99 was still on it, not that I would have paid that for it.

Jane10 Sat 05-Aug-17 14:58:30

Are you not tempted to casually leave the £99 price tag on Marydoll!

Marydoll Sat 05-Aug-17 15:16:34

It just looked a nice blouse, then I spotted the price tag and wondered what it was made of.
Today in our M&S, I actually got pushed out of the way by an elderly lady, because she wanted to look at something on the £3 trouser rail and I was in her way! You take your life in your hands in our outlet. smile

rosesarered Sat 05-Aug-17 16:47:37

Didn't you have your shillalah with you Mary ? grin

rosesarered Sat 05-Aug-17 16:48:08

Or a sturdy umbrella.

Marydoll Sat 05-Aug-17 18:51:25

I am very small! Perhaps she didn't see me.grin

I picked up a necklace that I liked in M&S a couple of years ago , when I got to the till it came up at about £1:99, I have worn it constantly and love it.
I have heard of this happening before, but how are we to know?

Marydoll Sat 05-Aug-17 20:04:53

I love to rummage in the clearance rails in our outlet. I've had some great bargains. I think it's just your luck, being there at the right time.
I once phoned my daughter at work to say I had picked up a £99 Per Una coat for £9 and did she want it. "I'm not sure," she said, "I'm being careful this month!" Of course, I ended up buying it for her.

Jane10 Sat 05-Aug-17 20:22:28

I wasn't in an outlet just a main store.

Marydoll Sat 05-Aug-17 20:26:56

That's even better.

Jalima1108 Sat 05-Aug-17 20:38:43

I had a look online after reading this thread - but the sale has finished online and presumably all the stuff not sold has gone to the outlet stores.

There is not one anywhere near us.

I was a bit miffed when I found the pretty top I'd bought for £11 in the sale was now £5.50, but then found a frilly shirt that DiL liked which was now £7 instead of £35. She wears it with a leather jacket and looks really cool (and not a bit M&S!)

Yesterday I went into our local M & S store for fruit and got sidetracked by the sale rails.
I got a long navy/white swishy calf length summer dress £39 for £7, and an embroidered white cotton top £29.50 for £3.99. Rails and Rails but I was in a great hurry for an appointment.... Darn !!

Jane10 Sat 05-Aug-17 21:12:35

Gosh. I had no idea that they slashed their prices to such an extent. Some happy shoppers around!

When we moved house years ago I saw a fantastic really stylish pure wool coat in the Oxford Street Pantheon store but it was far more than I could afford even without currently having the vast expense of moving. Some weeks later in our local branch there was the coat hanging at the front of the reduced rail, in my size, for £10. That has to be the best clothing buy I ever made as I wore that coat for years,. It always looked expensive and drew comments, and I finally passed it to a charity shop. Those were the days - pure new woolmark label, made in England, and made to last.

Years ago, my mother used to make clothes for M&S. They made things specially for the sales.

HootyMcOwlface Sun 06-Aug-17 09:08:41

That happened to me in M&S once too - few years ago though! Lovely pair of jeans fitted perfectly but a bit long -£4.99. Took the hem up myself, and absolutely delighted with them. Can't help but smile at my bargain every time I wear them haha!

In January I decided to lose weight. I bought a posh fitted frock off the M&S sale rail, reduced from £55 to £5.49! Even better, it finally fits me now!

I once saw a cashmere sweater in my size on the reduced rail in M&S Chester. It was not priced but when I took it to the cash desk it seemed to cause problems. After calling for a supervisor she told me that it was priced at 1p as it was the last one in the store. After feeling very smug to spot it I eventually shrunk it by accidentally adding it to a hot wash.

I'd be shocked if M&S had something in store that I liked and it was in my size. I'm not talking about the sales rails. Size 14 is obviously a popular size but they still can't get their head around the fact that means they need to order more of them. After several years of being disappointed I've given up on them! The sale rails tell it all, loads of sizes at each end of the spectrum but none in the middle
