I love perfume and wear it every day. I've noticed recently though that some perfumes I have worn for years suddenly don't seem to have the same staying power. For instance my most recent purchase, Chanel Allure Sensuelle, is undetectable on me after an hour or so - it was EDP by the way. Its either my skin changing or the formulation as I've bought it in the past and don't remember having the same problem.

Does anyone have fragrance they can recommend? I'm looking for a summery one at the moment but would be interested in hearing suggestions generally.

My most favourite perfume of all is called Knowing by Estee Lauder. I used to wear it every day. Now I have two others as well so alternate. After The Rain by Arran Aromatics and Carribbean Wild Flowers by Crabtree & Evelyn.

My all time favourite was Elysian by Clarins but it's been discontinued for at least 15 years. I still have a tiny amount in a dark cupboard that I can use on very special occasions.
I too try out various ones in dept stores and even the ones I think I like when first applied change and become synthetic smelling later. I like floral, but not too sweet, and something that lasts.
Hate those dark heavy sickly ones like Opium or Poison.
I do like Jo Malone Basil and Ginger but even that can be overpowering at times.

I've always liked L'aimant which is rather old-fashioned I suppose but it reminds me of my mum. It's fairly light.

Jo Malone Lime, Basil & Mandarin, lovely for summer and their Wood Sage and something or other for winter. Still usually keep some Channel No 5 and always surprised how much I love it.

I love Dior blooming bouquet and guerlain pera granita. Part of their aqua allegoria range. Beautiful. However my wedding perfume Eau de givenchy bring back wonderful memories every time I wear it. My children recognise it as that too

Only ever L'air Du Temps by Nina Ricci! first bought for me by a French boyfriend in May 1968... I was 20 then and when I was 50 discovered that it had been launched in 1948, the year I was born.

Evening in Paris that brings back memories...........I must have invested almost a fiver in Pagan..........I may write and ask for a refund.

I'm also a fan of Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, everyone always asks me what perfume I am wearing!

Cobweb01 Wed 23-Aug-17 13:49:48

My staples are L'eau D'issey by Issey Miyake, especially the summer editions, Eros by Versace, L'air Du Temps by Nina Ricci, Pagan by Mayfair, Classique by Jean Paul Gaultier and Eternity by Calvin Klein.

radicalnan.Did you not wear 'evening in paris' ? I bought my longed for bottle of this with my first wage packet.

sarahellenwhitney Wed 23-Aug-17 12:52:04

Jean- Louis Sherrer 2 & Germaine Monteil Royal Secret The body lotions my favourite as the fragrance lasted for hours.

Craftycat Wed 23-Aug-17 12:49:21

I like anything by Estee Lauder except Youth Dew.
I remember some time ago going for an interview one evening . I had put perfume on in the morning before I left home as always & the lady showing me in said ' oh- you're wearing Amirige- how lovely!' I could not smell it all day but it was obviously still there so maybe we just don't notice our own perfume after an hour or so.
I wear perfume every day but my son works at Gatwick Airport at the moment so I get it for birthdays & Christmas & am well stocked up!

Ysatis by Givenchy, and for evening Jungle by Kenzo. Both a bit expensive so I have to use them sparingly for special occasions.

As a teenager I wore 'Pagan', which said on the box, 'don't wear this if you're only bluffing'..................I was certinly not bluffing..and to date, nothing remotely exciting has happened. That was 7/6d a bottle too.

Like a bit of Hypnotic poison now, which the kids assure me smells like Germolene.

Rosepaul Wed 23-Aug-17 12:33:55

It's like no other ......

Anything Chanel, (except Coco, although I love Coco Noir!). Going on holiday soon and I see that a new Chanel is out this week - 'Gabrielle' - so I might have a sniff of that going through duty-free!

I used to love Aqua Manda when I was a teenager.
My husband found it on the internet and bought me a large size bottle of it.
Unfortunately, I can't bear it now! It is way too strong for my liking and the smell lasts for ages on me. I gave it to a friend who also remembered it and she returned it to me.
If it were possible, I would happily give it away to either of the OPs who mentioned it.

Oriel Earlier this year I went on a perfume making workshop at the Experimental Perfume Club in London and returned home with my very own perfume with which I am delighted. It was an extremely interesting and enjoyable workshop and I would recommend it to anyone interested in perfume.

I still like Anais anais

GrandmasueUK Wed 23-Aug-17 12:05:27

I once went into a local butcher's and was asked what perfume I was wearing. I think it would have been Chloe and the girl behind the counter said she like 'haemorrhage' which I thought was appropriate for a butcher - my friend told me it was supposed to be pronounced Amarige. The joys of a northern accent!

I now love L'eau D'Issey and Dior J'Adore.

Sar53 Wed 23-Aug-17 12:01:25

I like anything by Marc Jacobs, Black Opium and Pure by Issey Miyake. I love pretty perfume bottles but feel sad that they have to be kept in the dark otherwise they lose their smell very quickly.

marpau Wed 23-Aug-17 11:55:57

I adore Gucci envy me as it has a nice light flowery fragrance although I can't smell it as much as other people and it always gets complimented

debsf1 Wed 23-Aug-17 11:55:10

My all time favourite perfumes are Lancome La Vie Est Belle and Viktor & Rolfe's Flowerbomb. Another favourite is YSL Elle. I have to be careful with perfumes as my husband can be made Ill by some of the scents but even he is ok with these.
