Do you ever go back to old favourites ?

Whenever I want to give my face a good clean I use Pond's Cold Cream

I use Nivea in the big blue pot. I love the smell. Also Max Factor Face powder. I am often tempted to buy a compact, as a child I thought all of my aunties and my mum were really rich, each time they took a compact out of their bag.

I was given a compact in my teens and still have it. Is it possible to get refills these days? Reading this post I've got a yearning for a little bit of the past.

I think GG you can only get loose powder to refill a compact they don't do solid powder.

Because I don't like the yellow effect some foundations and powders give my skin I always revert to Rimmel pink blossom solid powder, suits me a treat.

Did you ever use spit on your black mascara block grin

Yes Flossie Nivea does have its own iconic smell, or fragrance as they say now.

There used to be a lipstick that had a marvellous scent, but I can't remember the brand, from the 1960's, if anybody can remember a few names I would probably recognise it?
I used to buy the lipsticks just for the scent.
I also like 4711 Cologne.
I still use Nivea, it works and it's cheap.?

I have been using Crowes Cremine cold cream to remove my make-up for nearly 40 years. It is mainly sold as a cream for removing theatrical make-up, but its formulation has never changed and for someone who has aggravatingly sensitive skin, to have the confidence that it will not suddenly bring me up in a rash is a real bonus.

I used to be able to buy it in Boots but now can only buy it online.

You can still get Max Factor Crème puff refills for a compact - until recently I bought them for a friend. I think Clinique may still do a solid block too.

Yes WW Clinique do a solid powder in a very nice silver topped compact, however the colour and smoothness of application is not half as good as the Rimmel one. Wish I could put the Rimmel powder in the Clinique compact.

I noticed DiL had some Creme Puff. I sniffed it and it smelled just like my mother's Max Factor make up used to when she was going out. I always thought it was so glamorous smile

*Lemongrove, *you may be thinking of Yardley lipsticks which had a very distinctive scent but, magically, the scent couldn't be tasted on the lips!

Anyone remember Miners make up? I always loved the smell of their lipsticks. Cheap and cheerful. Memories of sneaking out of the house to meet friends for a trip to the cinema and putting my make up on whilst still on the bus. Dad had forbidden the use of make up.?

NanKate Sat 23-Sept-17 19:37:36

Yes I too wore Miners makeup and secretly put on lipstick, how things have changed.

I also wore Leichner because actresses wore it grin
