Does anyone still wear heels?

I've found three pairs of very dusty but beautiful high heel shoes in the back of my wardrobe. These days I either wear comfy trainers or biker boots. Even on an evening out I'll rather wear (warm) boots with a chunky very low heel. Will I ever wear these heels again? I'm not sure I want to resign myself to never wearing heels again. It feels like giving up on being young...

As a life long “high heel shoe a holic “ I have now damaged all the nerves in the balls of my feet ! I have saved some fave heels for many years, thinking, well if I was going out to dinner, so just in/out of the car ... I maybe could wear them.
However, during my last clear out, I was brave and they all went to the charity shop, my heart was heavy, but realistic ! I can now manage wedges for special occasions but always have flats in my bag, just in case ! I cannot be a martyr to my feet anymore, but I just don’t feel dressy without a heel of some sort.

I have worn Skechers for a year and a half now. They are blissfully comfortable. I even have Skechers boots for the winter. The downside is I cannot walk more than a few feet in court shoes. At a recent wedding I only made it till after the ceremony before I had to ask my husband to fetch my Skechers, glittery ones, from the car. I couldn’t have walked to the car myself in a 2” heel! 5 minutes later almost all the female wedding guests had done the same! We had a great time with comfortable feet.

I stopped wearing heels in my 40s. I now have spine problems which means I am a full time wheelchair user. Because I don’t have to stand up and walk in them anymore, I have several beautiful high heels that I love to wear justfor show. It’s fabulous to show them off but no need to walk in them!

I've got a cupboard full of shoes and boots of varying heights but find with the exception of two pairs of boots I can't wear heels more than 1.5" high. I have odd shaped feet with toes all the same length and a high instep so anything too high squashes my toes or throws my feet forward too much. As I never go anywhere I mostly live in slippers which doesn't help when shoes are called for! So annoying as I have some beautiful ones angry

I haven't worn them for years but found a couple of pairs at the back of the wardrobe. On trying them on found that they were really quite comfortable so have started to wear them again.

PS don’t wear them myself

Oddly enough I was sitting in the car waiting for DH yesterday and just started noticing how very few women wear heels during the day, especially high ones. Perhaps the odd business type in a smart suit.

So much more liberating don’t you think?

It’s slightly different at night if you’re ‘dressing up’ I suppose.

When I was in my early twenties I wore shoes with small heels sometimes. I am quite tall so don’t need extra height. Eventually it dawned on me that high heels are really silly, and I’ve worn more or less flat shoes ever since.

Why would anyone put themselves on stilts? What does it say about the subjection of women? I get quite worried when I see newsreaders and serious intelligent journalists on television wearing thin heels several inches high. They should know better. Quite apart from those issues, they are obviously bad for the feet and back. Crazy, but incomprehensibly widely accepted.

Does anyone still wear heels?

Nah. I'm a tramper not a totterer and, like envious, have had an arthritic back since my teens. Going shopping for hiking poles tomorrow in readiness for the hazards of our steep hill this winter. Got crampons already, now I just need 'bracers' for my getting-more-dodgy knees.

Having a bad back since I was 19 I never wore them. I tell my self it was a good move since I don’t have problems like bunions only finding comfortable shoes that fit my narrow foot. More padding between my feet and the ground the better!

Since I discovered - about 30 years ago - that heels gave me backache, I haven't worn anything higher than 2 inches but I have a couple of pretty pairs of lower heels (one black pair and one pewter) for special occasions. Comfort is paramount.

I haven't worn heels since I was very young and even then they were only low heels. Never could get on with anything higher than about 2 inches. Now my feet are far too problematic to cope with heels anyway. So it's flat shoes all the way - trainers or low-heeled ankle boots, or stylish flip-flop type sandals in the summer.
I stopped being a slave to fashion after a particularly painful encounter with a pair of white Ravel heeled shoes when I was about 18. They were simply too tight - I'd hoped they'd 'give' on wearing, but they were having none of it. I'll never forget the pain on the bus journey home from work - I thought my feet would never recover sad. Actually, perhaps they didn't grin. Anyway, it's comfort first these days!

Oh, I miss my high heels! I spend far too much time now stomping round in flats or low heels and even Uggs and yes, I do find I slouch more. I still have lots of pairs of beautiful shoes, and I do occasionally put some on for a special occasion. But my bunion really doesn't like them. sad

MissAdventure Thu 09-Nov-17 20:59:01

I've never worn them, and I find it strange to watch women tottering around in heels when they're doing the weekly shop.
There are some beautiful ones though.

Moocow Thu 09-Nov-17 20:49:51

Yes especially when visiting or out for the evening. My outfit just doesn't feel right if I don't. These days I do wear a thick high heel though so feel supported for hours.

Alima Thu 09-Nov-17 20:48:06

Wearing heels always made me feel good but nowadays I go for comfort. I think I have a pair of low heels still but they really hurt my feet, only wear them when I have to. Glad you mentioned DMs Day6, meant to look for a pair of the flowery ones this winter.

Smithy Thu 09-Nov-17 20:44:30

Yes I feel smarter and more feminine in heels. I have a couple of pairs of medium height heels which I feel more dressed in. I also like boots with block or Cuban heels, but do have flat ones for bad weather.

Day6 Thu 09-Nov-17 20:42:47

I have some small heels for the odd occasion when I 'dress up' but they don't see the light of day very often.

I prefer comfort these days so live in trainer type shoes or boots. I do like them to be stylish though. I have seen some grey biker boots-cum-Doc Martens which I am contemplating buying but I'm dithering as to whether they are too brutish for me. grin And then I'd have to buy a grey bag to see me through the winter. Decisions, decisions.

In the summer I live in my flat sandals.

paddyann Thu 09-Nov-17 20:30:30

always wear heels always have ,even when I walked miles with a pram .I wear boots alot of the time but the lowest heels are 3 inch on ankle boots

HillyN Thu 09-Nov-17 19:43:39

Being above average height and three inches taller than my DH I have never worn high heels. When we got married in the 70's platform shoes were all the rage. He wore them, I wore ballerina pumps!

Crafting Thu 09-Nov-17 19:37:20

Funnily enough yes, today for the first time in ages. I am going somewhere where a long dress is required and I am short. (I wasn't but I've shrunk!). The skirt of the dress just touches the ground without heels. I found an old pair in the back of the cupboard and they give just enough lift to get the skirt off the ground. Now all I have to do is master walking in them again grin

GrandmaMoira Thu 09-Nov-17 19:36:22

I've never managed to walk in high heels. I do have some lowish heels for special occasions such as weddings.

M0nica Thu 09-Nov-17 19:35:54

Apart from the year I was 18 I have never worn high heels. because as well as having very poor balance and a weak ankle, they were uncomfortable and I couldn't walk in them.

However I love pretty shoes and have worn a variety of midi-heeled shoes, Louis heels (or do they call then Kitten heels now?). I now have a collection of boots with stacked heels, wedge heels and stylish loafers.

Age has nothing to do with it. I still wear stylish shoes and boots and always will. Even young shop assistants have envied me my red ankle boots with stacked heels that I have been wearing this autumn

Marmight Thu 09-Nov-17 19:28:57

I find heels so uncomfortable. I wore them in my teens but struggled even then. I wore low wedge type shoes at the DDs weddings but live in flat shoes, boots, trainers or thongs (flipflops). I do wish I could wear heels as they look so elegant, but it isn't worth the excruciating pain and discomfort

jusnoneed Thu 09-Nov-17 18:16:44

I used to wear higher heeled shoes, and of course platforms.
Wear much flatter ones now but I have a couple pairs with 2" heels/wedges which I wear very occasionally. I would wear my low wedge sandals all year if I could!
