What's the best kind of bra to get if you're a bit bigger and wobblier in the bust department?

I totally agree with GrannyGravy re: Rigby and Peller and the Prima Donna bras. Not only are they perfect for those of us with a larger bust, but they are so, so pretty too. Well worth the money.

I've had several bra fittings over the years and can honestly say none of them were successful. MnS and John Lewis were the worst. When I complained to the woman at MnS that a 36 was so tight I couldn't breathe, she said 'Bras have to be tight'. Well, I know that - but unable to breathe? Atm I'm buying Triumph Delicate Doreen in 38C which is comfortable until the early evening when I desperately need to take it off, but it definitely doesn't stop the wobble. I wish I could find one that does.

I fitted bras for a while and I think getting properly measured is the first step - particularly if you're better endowed! John Lewis has always offered a very good fitting service (better than M&S)and my niece swears by Bravissimo. I've never got on with M&S sizing. I'm not well endowed but have been wearing Calvin Klein bras for ages and they're very comfortable.

Being very well endowed.. starting off at a 34DD in my youth.. am now a 40J (is that the three children I breastfed or the chocolate biscuits?) Anyway, a friend who used to work for M&S took me in hand ( so to speak) they a fab +DD range but you may have to order them as never many in stock.. have got 5/6 now. Debs never had anything for me sadly as I like them and Bravissimo weren't much better! Good luck with your search!

I found that Bravissimo has a shop in Edinburgh and I've booked a fitting tomorrow morning!!! Am so excited- I do lead a sheltered life lol and the thought of a nice well fitting bra is cheering me up. One might even say uplifting... Ok, I'll get me coat lol

Re lacy bras... I've never found Prima Donna lace scratchy the way many other lace bras are. May be because they are more expensive - and can therefore use softer lace?

NotSpaghetti Mon 29-Jan-18 15:45:36

Prima Donna.
Expensive but both attractive and structual!
Two of my daughters buy Prima Donna too as SO good for larger cup sizes.

I too decided last year enough was enough. Had a drawerful of bras that didn’t fit my 36 g bust. I paid for an op . The surgeon could not make me as small as I wanted but it’s so much better. In my area the op is not done on the nhs

Mrsdof Mon 29-Jan-18 15:23:34

It’s Bravissimo for me as well. I went in wearing 36DD and walked out wearing a 34FF. Very comfortable indeed. You can see them online or in their catalogue if you can’t get to one of their shops.

AliBeeee Mon 29-Jan-18 15:13:14

Another vote for Bravissimo here, they are superb.
I was always an M&S girl until I hit 50 and suddenly was visited by the middle age booby fairy. M&S no longer had big enough cups, but Bravissimo are perfect.

townie Mon 29-Jan-18 15:04:43

Absolutely agree with two previous posters- Prima Donna are perfect. The Deauville style is my favourite. I too get them fitted at Rigby and Peller once a year, then buy new ones online. Worth every penny.

kircubbin2000 Mon 29-Jan-18 14:11:57

Marks has one you can get online. I also got a back extension as even my correct size was tight.

seemercloud Mon 29-Jan-18 13:41:24

Bravissimo for me. As others have said, they told me I had been wearing the wrong size (for years). After they'd set me on the right track, I've never had an uncomfortable bra. Also, not many places stock J cup! I can even buy a decent swimming costume now.

A couple of years ago when I was quite ill I found that my bra exacerbated my pain. In desperation I took myself off to M&S as I had heard that they offered a measuring service. Although the lady was very helpful with the sizing I ignored her advice on the style of bra and in my quest for a comfy-looking bra I ended up in the section that sold bras for the post-op mastectomy lady.

Eureka!

Bras that are soft, comfy, no lace, no underwire (put still look pretty). These proved to be such a god-send after I later had my kidney removed which meant that whole area was even more painful.

I still have health issues affecting one side of my body so a couple of years on and I am still buying my bras from the post-op section. The only difference is that they have a little pocket inside the cup for inserting padding/falsie if needed but other than that they sit and look as any other bra should but far more comfortable.

I'm 32GG and get bras from Bravissimo and when I feel like spoiling myself a Prima Donna bra. I have two shops I go to who are both very good at fitting but the best advice I was given, was to always try on as bras, even of the same make and size, as they can vary depending on the machinist making them.

Lazigirl Mon 29-Jan-18 13:11:23

I am 34E and don't like underwired bras so I buy Berlei on Internet. They are super comfy - Serena Williams endorses their sports ones.

grove1234 Mon 29-Jan-18 13:05:36

empreinte last forever expensive nothing fits as well

lesley4357 Mon 29-Jan-18 13:03:43

Funmanchu I always thought I was a 40D (m&s measured) but when measured correctly found I'm actually a 36ff! Now I'm in the correct size they're comfortable to wear.

lesley4357 Mon 29-Jan-18 13:00:43

Bravissimo definitely. I'm a ff cup and find M&S bras hopeless. I usually wear Fantasie bras - comfortable, not too massive and lots of different styles. John Lewis sell them if there's not a bravissimo near you

Tegan2 Mon 29-Jan-18 12:59:32

The ones on Ebay are from China, so maybe someone has bought up old stock? Mariella do a similar bra but I bought the wrong size. Unless you're really confident product and sizewise, the internet is not the way to go bra wise sad.

DaisyMig Mon 29-Jan-18 12:48:08

Most of us wear ill-fitting and uncomfortable bras, and sadly fitters in most lingerie departments/shops are poorly trained to help. Bravissimo is an exception - I’ve never heard a bad word about them. There’s also a Facebook group that I would recommend very highly, called Boobs or Bust - the link is below. This is an excellent place to learn how to measure yourself properly and to get advice about bras, shops, etc. Good luck!

Yes Tegan the original Genie bras were really good quality, I have two of them, and they are still good to wear.
Were they made in the UK or the US? I can’t remember, but definitely not China.

allule Mon 29-Jan-18 12:16:38

Any advice ipon front fastening bras? There is no way I can reach round the back, and doing bra up at the front and twisting it round exhausts me, and really hurts my arms.
Unfortunately, my husband can no longer help.
Any solutions?

keffie Mon 29-Jan-18 12:06:22

M & S work best for me! They have a fitting service too

Somersetgal Mon 29-Jan-18 12:01:03

Another vote for Royce, the non underwire bra l have is extremely comfortable. I had one fitted at a small independent lingerie shop and l liked it so much l bought another couple from eBay !
