Buying two of the same thing

I like remarkably little of what passes for “fashion”these days and find myself tempted to buy TWO of something I really like, which is really comfortable or flattering, (sometimes in a different colour, but not necessarily) so that when it wears out or gets too scruffy, I shall have a “spare” .
Does anybody else do this?

My friend always laughs at me because when I buy a new top for instance I will buy it in another colour.

I fit into the same box you're in. If I want to buy two of something and my husband talks me out of it, you an almost guarantee that I will go bak for the second one. As it is, I've just nbought three pairs of stretchy black trousers from Asda. And, at a tenner, I might go back for a fourth pair. So comfortable. So versatile. So cheap. So, I ask you, what could possibly be the reason for not buying more than one pair?

I do this a lot. I find it hard to find nice trousers that are long enough, so when I do I go back and get another pair. I've also done this with tops - I have three identical tops in different patterns. I am very fussy when it comes to style and hate short trousers and tops even though I'm not excessively tall at 5'7"

Only once Have I bought two identical pairs of shoes but I found I kept going out wearing a one blue and one black shoes. I never started a trend as it didn’t seem to catch on. ?

Just had another idea - drape them over jackets which are on hangers. That should hold them in place and prevent dents forming - unless, of course, they are fluffy and will make the jacket fluffy underneath.

I am forever ironing cardigans because they have fallen off the hangers. I think the best way would be to use really thick hangers, and make them non-slippery with rubber bands or foam rubber wrapped round them.

My other half does this. About 20 years ago he bought a pair of every colour that M&S were doing in a style of shorts and gaily announced 'I'll never have to buy any shorts again'. He doesn't take account of style and fashion changes, or indeed of changes in his shape!

I meant to type smooth wooden hangers, all solid so no dents in garment.

lemongrove Wed 07-Feb-18 21:02:19

On strong wooden hangars.

Lilypops Wed 07-Feb-18 20:22:32

I love cardigans over tshirts and I have about 20 in different colours mainly from M&S in the 20%off days, but my problem is storing them , If I hang them on hangars I get a dent in the shoulders that I have to iron out before I can wear it, if I fold them flat in the drawer they get crushed and I still have to iron them ,
How do you all store your cardi,s please, I,d love to know ,

When BHS were closing down my DH bought 6 x 3 packs of pants as he hasn’t found any he likes as much - he reckons they’ll see him out!

I found black cord trousers with elasticated waist in Asda a couple of years ago and they were brilliant because they were available in a short leg length size. I bought a couple of pairs and then replaced them with two more pairs the following year. Alas, they do not have them any more! One pair has worn out and the other will do so soon I suppose.

ps also a jumper from Woolovers, wool and cashmere - I've got 6, all different colours.

Definitely do this with shoes. I find many of Clarks styles fit me well. I didn’t realise until a couple of years ago that there are literally hundreds of new pairs available on eBay. I had a wonderfully comfy pair of sandals that literally fell apart but managed to find some on eBay even though long discontinued. Did the same with a pair of ankle boots that I loved.

Fennel Wed 07-Feb-18 16:34:11

Same here with Skechers - I have 4 pairs.
My favourites are their laceups, like 'trainers', which I wear to go for my daily walk.
I must order another pair.

Wish I was confident with the needle lilypollen. Got good intentions of giving it a go. Was it difficult ?

lilypollen Wed 07-Feb-18 15:40:55

That happened to me Thebeeb with the white Per Unas, so I altered them to straight leg. I only wear them on summer holidays so they should be good for another summer or two.

I did this for the first time ever this Christmas . I bought a long cardi with pockets in September and my sister kept saying she wanted one the same . I bought one and put it away intending on giving it to her for Christmas . Moving on a couple of months I’d worn mine a lot and it was starting to look a little the worse for wear, so I did a naughty thing and unpacked the one I’d bought my sister , hung it in my own wardrobe as a new spare and bought her something entirely different for Christmas . What she diesnt know can’t hurt her ! grin

I bought the same boots as last year in M&S as SO comfortable and rarely find what I like there any more. Have 3x jeggings in different colours but have now stopped making them- typical! Also bought 3 X T shirts in Boden in basic colours, I liked them so much I would have bought more but didn't have my size in stock in other colours I liked.

If you find that Marks have stopped doing your bra, have a look on eBay. People buy up end of line products, cut the labels out and sell on. There a lot cheaper, too.

I had to buy a pair of new every day pair of Pavers shoes just before Christmas as my old ones were leaking dreadfully and not repairable.
I tried a number of designs but they all had low backs which I find uncomfortable. I eventually bought some that were ok because I had no reaL alternative.

As it happens they are really comfortable and they are well padded under the ball of the foot and I wish I had bought two pairs.
I might just try to see if they still have a pair of them in stock.
If you find something you like it is worth it they may not be selling them next season.

Thebeeb Tue 06-Feb-18 21:58:46

Yes jeans but got caught out now the fashion is for skinny jeans. I’ve got at least 6 pairs of wide legs with labels still on that I’ve gone off. Sucker too for matching M & S bras and knickers. Got soooo many.

Saggi Tue 06-Feb-18 20:39:19

Skechers..... Best thing ever invented!

Niobe Tue 06-Feb-18 19:56:53

I have difficult feet to buy shoes for, bunions, high instep and wide fitting. Many years ago I bought a pair of sandals which fitted and were comfortable even with their 4 inch heels. I bought 2 pairs and when one pair fell apart I was so glad I still had the other pair. They are my go-to shoe for weddings etc.

Yes, all the time!
