Buying two of the same thing

I like remarkably little of what passes for “fashion”these days and find myself tempted to buy TWO of something I really like, which is really comfortable or flattering, (sometimes in a different colour, but not necessarily) so that when it wears out or gets too scruffy, I shall have a “spare” .
Does anybody else do this?

I found a blissfully comfortable pair of walking shoes and bought a second identical pair. I wear them almost every day.

Yes I do this a lot. I once bought 4 pairs of identical slippers because they were so comfortable and withstood the odd impulse to garden in them.

storynanny Mon 05-Feb-18 19:50:10

Yes definitely do this! I buy 2 or more of a dress if I find one I like. And shoes, especially sandals. I have horrid bunions so if I find a pair that are comfy I buy several pairs the same.

I have never done this but my friend does. She was introduced to Skechers and has at least 4 pairs in different colours.
I will admit to not liking the look of them at all.
She also buys t-shirts and tops in multiples .

I bought some Skechers the other day - my first pair, but everyone seems to rave about them.
I haven't worn them outside the house yet, they do seem to be very clumpy.

Jalima1108 Mon 05-Feb-18 20:42:58

They will fit DD if I change my mind!

NanaandGrampy Mon 05-Feb-18 20:55:01

Ooooh me me !!

Last time I found a t shirt I liked , I bought one, loved it and went back and bought one in every colour :-)

I do it with things like sketchers too , if they’re on special offer .

Greyduster Mon 05-Feb-18 20:58:35

I often wish I had done it!

Orange123 Mon 05-Feb-18 21:00:51

I do this all the time. With dresses and especially shoes. I, too, have awful bunions and if I find a cute shoe in an extra-wide width I'll buy at least two pairs.

seacliff Mon 05-Feb-18 21:00:53

Yes. I rarely find things that look vaguely OK on me.

If I do manage to find such an item, and it is a reasonable price, I buy the item in 2 or even 3 colours. I have also bought the same shoes in 2 colours.

I once bought a very unusually shaped black denim coat and wore it until it fell off my back; many, many times I have wished I'd bought two.

MawBroon Mon 05-Feb-18 21:08:27

Oh you are making me feel MUCH better! smile

nanaK54 Mon 05-Feb-18 21:11:35

Yes, me too!
I have the same cardigan in three colours, the same jeans x three, the same bra x five grin

Scooter58 Mon 05-Feb-18 21:13:48

Yip,I do,much to my friends amusement

Luckygirl Mon 05-Feb-18 21:46:32

I definitely do this - accompanied by much guilt!

lemongrove Mon 05-Feb-18 21:52:38

Can I join the Me Too happy band? Although I only started doing this about six years ago, wish I had done it sooner!
Bought a cosy tunic top ( this is how it started) and when shopping a week or so later saw another exactly the same in my size and thought why not? Then it was jeans, then shoes and then handbags ( I have about 12 identical suede handbags, but in different colours.)

Squiffy Mon 05-Feb-18 21:53:45

Me, too! I’m such an odd size that I pounce on something that fits, plus another, while the going’s good!

grannyqueenie Mon 05-Feb-18 22:16:21

A few years ago I bought a really comfy pair of shoes at a retail outlet, wore them to death. If I’d known how good they were going to be I’d have bought x 2. A couple of years after their demise, I went to another branch of same the same outlet and bingo there was just one pair exactly the same, which I gladly snapped up!

NotTooOld Mon 05-Feb-18 22:17:05

And me. But then I often find the second purchase is not as good as the first, not such a good fit or such good fabric, for instance, and wish I'd just stuck with the first one. Or else I go off the first one and wish I had not bought another.

Lemon - TWELVE handbags in different colours? Where to you keep them all? grin

NanKate Mon 05-Feb-18 22:19:43

Snap. Bought two pairs of black trousers from M and Co, wish I had bought a third pair. ?

lemongrove Mon 05-Feb-18 22:25:54

I have lots of shelves in lots of wardrobes NotToo blush
And I have lots of other handbags and shoulder bags to add to those (probably about fifteen more) bought before I got into the buying double thing.

NotTooOld Mon 05-Feb-18 22:31:08

lemon - grin

NanKate - that's funny, my most recent double (oh, alright, quadruple) purchase was cotton t-shirts with 3/4 sleeves from MnCo's sale. It's hard to find t-shirts that are all cotton. I've never bought from there before but they had some quite nice stuff.

I occasionally buy two pair of the same shoes if they are very comfortable. Once I bought two pair of black linen trousers , unfortunately I gained some weight, but packed them away for "skinnier times". Years later, still didn't fit do I gave them away. Now I know they would fit, still in fashion, and could kick myself for giving them away!

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 06-Feb-18 04:20:53

Yep, me too, but only for things I wear a lot. Sometimes it's because I know something I suit won't always be in fashion. Like the lightweight ¾ sleeve cardigan I got in M&Co last year that I bought in navy and khaki. I know nothing in that style is likely to be around this year. I also buy three white t-shirts from Bon Marché every year before they're sold out. They'll be a staple for the next 12 months. I wear the old ones in bed. I've also got a casual jacket in navy and black. This is the third navy one. Makes sense.
