Wired or non-wired that is the question?

I had a turning point when out shopping for a new bra yesterday. A very nice lady in M&S seemed to be able to detect my dilemma and swooped in to help me! Not being a very well endowed lady I have always sought bras with a bit of oomph, and always wired (never sure why!) Yet recently I have had real problems with the wires riding up all the time, uncomfortable and unsightly to say the least. I tried on a beautifully soft unwired one and WOW what a difference! My life was immediately transformed - I unashamedly chose comfort over sexy styling, so comfortable I bought two - well at least ones black and looks a bit more alluring! Any thoughts ladies?

Wired, plastic? slightly padded, quite discrete really, bought some lovely T shirt bras at Matalan of all places, they are SO good, and inexpensive.Try them out ladies!

I have recently found wired bras uncomfortable, even after a shop fitting. I have changed to non wired and although rather ' industrial ' looking, are so comfortable and supporting. I now wear Delicate Doreen by Triumph, but have found it is now discontinued in size 34. ( I wear 34g). Now purchased four on eBay.

I try to avoid wearing bras whenever I can.
When I am at home and not expecting visitors, I wear vests.

I find you can get away with that more during winter when wearing thick baggy jumpers. But in summer, I do have to wear one when out.
Always non wired. Can't stand anything tight around my chest.

Always wired but not padded. Had myself measured in Debenhams and buy nearly all my bras there. Freya is my favourite make.

I always wear cotton bralets now and think that your posture improves because you become responsible for it!

Day6 - “chesticles”! grin
And MOnica having a “quick fumble”! grin
This thread has really cheered me up.

Wirelessgrin all the time now, used to wear wired bras but after I had a benign breast lump removed I was seeing the District Nurse for dressings & she recommended that "larger ladies" should wear unwired bras.

I have lots, plain t-shirt bras & some very pretty ones from M&S.

I can only wear one type of bra and it is a Triumph wired one.

Sheilasue Mon 26-Feb-18 11:50:20

Only wear non wired bras. So comfortable and I get my underwear from M&S have tried other shops but not as good.

I ❤️ wired bras, especially those made by Fantasie.

Albangirl14 Mon 26-Feb-18 11:48:16

I have always worn non wired and have read that there may be a link with wired bras and Breast Cancer.Mine are from M and S from the Total range no padding but give good support. I choose the ones with high cotton content but they do a range of styles and sizes including my 42c. They are in boxes in store not hanging with the other bras.

I have not worn a wired bra since I was in my teens, when a wire broke through and came out of its cup. The majority of bras appear to be wired and padded, so I have to seek out non-padded, non-wired bras that come in big cup sizes - not easy but I will never purchase another wired bra.

I can’t wear wired any more, they hurt my rib cage. I wonder why there aren’t more pretty unwired ones around.? They are all plain and boring like t shirt bras.

I decided to become wireless last week after a lot of discomfort and itching. I was worried it was something sinister until I had a light-bulb moment and realised it was the wiring, size and fabric giving me trouble. I ordered a cotton-rich non-wired bra from M & S and the next size up - result: pure comfort and no more worrying.
I blame Trinny & Susannah for the underwired habit I got into it.

Oh yes, Elrel, Sloggi knickers are brilliant! Also I agree about unwired bras for the well endowed. I'm a DD but some years ago I went from wired to unwired. Oh, the comfort! With the "right" bra (wide straps every time) I find my unwired bras are just as supportive. And there are some pretty ones to be found.

Wired for me; plan to continue being a sex kitten into my nineties...

grandtanteJE65 Mon 26-Feb-18 11:20:15

I always wash my wired bras in a cotton bag, and usually remember to check the stitching holding the wires in place at regular intervals, so no, I have never had a wire in the works of the washing machine.

Sorry, if this sounds self-righteous, that is not how it is meant, I do assure you!

grandtanteJE65 Mon 26-Feb-18 11:15:39

To all of you who find wired bras uncomfortable: are you quite sure you are choosing the right size?

If you are wearing the right size, measured under your bosom, then you need to adjust the straps, because a bra rides up if the shoulder straps are too tight.

Having said this, I admit that bras are like anything else, some makes are a good fit, others are not, so find the manufacturer whose product suits you.

We got a lovely fitted kitchen including fitted washing machine and the second time I used the washing machine one of the wires from my bra came out and broke the machine ! I was mortified and from that day on I use laundry bags to put my bras in.
I never used to wear underwire bras as I couldn't find a comfortable one but I went to be measured and was fitted with a Triumph bra and never looked back.

TwiceAsNice Mon 26-Feb-18 10:55:48

Wired and non padded, can't stand padded bras but find it takes longer to find ones that are comfortable but as I've got older have become bigger busted. Bobs are not very sexy anymore I'm afraid but as it's usually only me that sees them it doesn't matter!

Persistentdonor Mon 26-Feb-18 10:55:48

Oopsadaisy12: I like Curvy Kate - they do unpadded and wired. Very pretty too. I believe some M&S stock them.

Elrel Mon 26-Feb-18 10:44:06

I’m ‘well endowed’ as OP puts it. Even when I was much slimmer I didn’t have wired bras. Twice I’ve been persuaded to buy wired by super saleswomen. One was M&S, both times the bra was uncomfortable to the point of pain and rubbed my skin.
Always unwired Triumph Doreen now! And Sloggi pants!

kittylester Mon 26-Feb-18 10:35:48

My wired bras have never caused a problem when scanned. DH's hip on the other hand...........
