Wired or non-wired that is the question?

I had a turning point when out shopping for a new bra yesterday. A very nice lady in M&S seemed to be able to detect my dilemma and swooped in to help me! Not being a very well endowed lady I have always sought bras with a bit of oomph, and always wired (never sure why!) Yet recently I have had real problems with the wires riding up all the time, uncomfortable and unsightly to say the least. I tried on a beautifully soft unwired one and WOW what a difference! My life was immediately transformed - I unashamedly chose comfort over sexy styling, so comfortable I bought two - well at least ones black and looks a bit more alluring! Any thoughts ladies?

Non wired every time for me. I dislike wearing bras, but can't get away with going braless with a 38C cup size.

Unwired every time I can’t bear the sticking in uncomftable wires

Non- wired these days, the wires are just too painful now..and I certainly don't need any uplift..

NotTooOld Sun 25-Feb-18 17:31:59

Oh definitely non-wired and even then they are not that comfortable by about 4pm.

I find the wires very comfortable but my bras are French ones - just for the supermarket. The problem I have with them is setting of the machines when I go through the airport scanner - do it very time and then have a hand held device put all over me!

I always wear wired being a bit busty not for oomph I assure you it's just more comfortable and less bounce ? I don't set off airport scanner with the wires although my hip implants do, I thought all wired bras were now made of rigid plastic now?

I'm wired grin

I’m another non wired I gave up on wired ones about 3 years ago too uncomfortable, but to be honest If I’m at home quite often I don’t wear one.

Wired!!

Scribbles Sun 25-Feb-18 18:01:39

Unable to get the wired bras I'd previously bought, I recently tried a couple of non-wired ones and I've never worn anything so uncomfortable. They were agony, with a broad band of elastic at the bottom which chewed at my "spare tyre" and my ribcage. I felt as though the wretched things were eating me alive!! They were two different styles but the effect was the same with both. Never again!

I’ve been wearing ‘comfort’ bras for a while, now. I was finding that wired ones really hurt (what must be a rib), under my left armpit, and non-wired are just about as bad. Not too keen on the pads that are rather necessary with the comfort bras, but without them I do tend to lose whatever shape I had (which was never all that much)!
Anyone recommend a good comfort bra?

ninathenana Sun 25-Feb-18 18:09:58

I've never worn a wired bra. I'm only a B cup so don't need the oomph !
In fact......
I'm usually bra less in doors, unless I'm expecting visitors

"I unashamedly chose comfort over sexy styling,"

Ha ha this comes to us all I think aquafish!

I used to like all my underwear to be pretty and matching. When I decided to buy 'big knickers' over skimpier ones I knew then my sex kitten days, ahem, <cough> were long, long gone and I'd have to consider the comfort of bras too. I always buy those without wires or padding now. I try to find pretty ones though but they are hard to find. Most seem to be plain and practical. They are much comfier though! I still undo my bra when I come home after a day out and some days at home when I have nowhere to be, I often go bra-less with a few layers over the chesticles to hide the fact.

Wired, but not for sound.......mind you I’ve had some nasty surprises in the past when the wire has worked it’s way either under my skin, or poke out of my jumper!
But where can I get a wired one that isn’t padded?
Deffo don’t need padding at my age.

sodapop Sun 25-Feb-18 21:41:51

I like wired bras too Oopsadaisy but not padded. M&S do several.

M0nica Sun 25-Feb-18 21:55:34

I buy both indiscriminately. I have just had to have a quick fumble to check what type of bra I am wearing today. It is wired. I rarely have any problem with wires escaping.

I am quite small (32B) and was not aware that wiring was meant to give 'oomph' whatever that may be and have not noticed whether they do or not.

My hate are those horrible moulded padded bras that look like Budicca's breast plates.

Oopsadaisy12 Sun 25-Feb-18 22:04:52

Soda pop, you’re right I need to bite the bullet and trek into town and try some on.

Charleygirl Sun 25-Feb-18 22:15:57

I have never worn a padded or a wired bra in my life-comfort every time for me.

lemongrove Sun 25-Feb-18 22:18:14

I used to wear wired and padded always, but discovered comfy types, unwired , about eight years ago and that was that.?

etheltbags1 Sun 25-Feb-18 22:20:57

Has nobody had a huge bill for washing machine repairs. The man removes the wire and waves it aloft and b..... it another hundred quid literally down the drain. Does no ones wires escape in the machine. Apart from this i hate the horrid things but non wired ones give me a rash where the band rubs. If i get a bigger one the boobs drop out the bottom.

Eloethan Sun 25-Feb-18 23:59:55

I gave up wearing wired bras several years ago. They were really uncomfortable. I think non-wired bras are just as comfortable and look OK too.

aquafish Mon 26-Feb-18 07:44:57

Thanks for all the giggles folks! Looks like it’s about 60-40 in favour of non wired, comfort all the way for me now. Mines even called ‘sumptuously soft’ and I can vouch for that! Do recommend going for a proper fitting if you haven’t had one in a while!

Greyduster Mon 26-Feb-18 08:15:22

Usually unwired, but I have three wired bras that I wear occasionally. Two of them were as cheap as chips from a budget clothing shop, and are very comfortable; one was fitted for me at M&S and is a nightmare so doesn’t get an outing very often.

kittylester Mon 26-Feb-18 08:24:22

My wired bras are not padded, they just have lacy cups. If I buy non wired my boobs try to make personal contact with my knees! blush
