72 year old 5 year health check
We're off to Thailand in 19 "sleeps". I am plump and pale. I have fairly structured swim suits and loads of very pretty wraps but am still concerned about inflicting my white limbs on the world. I have been using a dry oil spray for a few weeks to prepare my skin for the sunshine and would like to attempt to give it a bit of a glow before we arrive. Any advice on fake tanning products?? Not looking for an orange look but just something to take the alabaster look away.

When I think of fake tan and older bodies I always think of that little ladyon her mobility scooter in ‘Benidorm’ talk about rhino hide ??
It doesn’t matter what I use and I’ve used all mentioned here I always look like I’ve got jaundice, its worse if I swim in a pool. I feel like many of you, at my age who’s looking. one of the best things about getting older is being invisible. I’m sure on a beach I just look like any grandmother. Years ago just before a holiday I realised I just couldn’t be bothered with faffing about with fake tanning products that needed reapply every day and meant I couldn’t go in a pool. That’s when I came to the conclusions that pale, wobbly, wrinkled people are allowed on beaches too.
I now have a sort of grey face colour and use a facial tanning cream after washing my hair and I just look heathier and happier. If I'm not going out I wait a few days but it is a moisturiser as well and I'm pleased with it.
I'm allergic to a lot of fake tanning creams, but Dove also gets a vote from me, and it's only about £3 a bottle.
A bit late to this thread, but i use Garnier Summer body,or Dove, both are very nice and natural looking, but i find the Garnier one works quicker
You will see all sorts and shades! Just make sure you use a good sunscreen, it's easy to burn in the tropical sun!
I don’t tan so use Dove which quite a few have already mentioned. I apply it as a moisturiser about twice a week and it just takes away that very white look.
Agree though that exfoliating is important.
Oh yes tanning mitt for self application makes all the difference.
Natio sun kissed glow self tanning is excellent if you are not confident in self application. Quickly builds a lovely colour with no biscuit smell, I’ve only found it in Tesco or online.
St Tropez is my choice for instantaneous tan, if you are confident in applying it.
Spray tan would be my choice for a one off special occasion, you don’t have to wear a paper thong, you can wear your swimsuit and drop the straps. You can have the flesh on show sprayed, you will need to wear old clothes afterwards while it dries.
Absolutely most important is the exfoliating preparation this must be done correctly otherwise any tan will be patchy.
Enjoy your holiday
Another vote for Dove. I'd just started using it a couple of weeks ago prior to a trip to Sri Lanka when I broke my ankle, and had to cancel the holiday. I now have one "glowing" leg and one purple (cast) one. I remember a lot of fuss last year about Theresa May's white legs when she wore shorts on holiday. Thank goodness we're not all in the public eye. I quite liked the 19 sleeps too! ?
Don’t worry about you as others have said keep floaty stuff on the locals love to see pale skin we all love differences if you ve got curly hair you want straight visa Versace if you’re brown you look to body bleach if your white tan love what you ve got
Oh and the 19 sleeps made my teeth grate too ??
I use St Tropez self tan products. They do a gradual tan range that is moisturiser with a little tanning agent added. It comes in light or dark with one for body and a small tube for face. No nasty smell, dead easy to apply with no streaks. For an even finish use a tanning mitt. Get mine from Boots.
Dove or similar are just enough to take the blinding white off me and gives me a little more confidence. Also a glow to the face and then I only use waterproof mascara during the day.
I still always wear maxi dresses to cover the veined legs. Or a floaty ankle length cover up at the pool, taking it off only to go into the water. I'm not a pool person anyway.
Nice floaty cover ups and fabulous earrings... ready to go
St Tropez do an IN-Shower gradual fake tan. I used it last year (buy online or at Boots) it was flipping fabulously easy and the stuff didn't come on everything (which I find is a problem even with Dove). It also doesn't smell.
Just use sun protection and don’t worry about how you look to others be proud of who you are. Age 65 I was in Thailand, wore a tanking (spelling) so I could roll up my top and hopefully get some sun on my white jelly belly. Never did but it felt good.
Dove is the safe bet. I've had a few "tango" experiences in the past, smelling like a digestive biscuit. "Pale is interesting"was a favourite of my Auburn haired mum. Mum is always right
enjoy your trip whatever shade you are. Ps. I like the "infantile" reference to sleeps, part of the enjoyment of most things is the anticipation.
Thanks for suggestions. Sorry "harrigran" about the 19 sleeps. I was an infant teacher for many years and some things never leave you. I think it's 15 now. I'll try one of the light creams and I shall step out with confidence - a wrap and a big smile cover everything.
I used to use a lot of self tan before holidays which gave a lovely colour ,but , now I have brown age spots on my arms and face but now fake tan just shows the spots up as orange, so I will have to give up on fake tan I think,
I'm nearly 80...(for what it's worth!)
I regularly use Dove Summer Glow....including on my face... it gradually builds up a healthy look... no orange... and helps you keep you tan once acquired.....
you will need sun tan lotion as well .... so let me recommend Ambre Solair DRY MIST i use factor 30... it goes on sooo easily and finely ... no stickiness/ oiliness ... you can get higher factors i believe... easy to keep in your bag and top up as necessary ... watch those white shins...
have a lovely time... my neighbour just back from thailand and said she was so sweaty she felt the perspiration trickling down her back.... she loved it.
I’ve come to the conclusion that others are too worried about what they look like to worry much about what you look like. And after a certain age I fear we all become ‘invisible women’
I agree re the Dove summer glow - always use it before exposing any part of my anatomy on a sunny holiday!!
Dove Summer Glow is very good. I use it in spring when teeshirts start to surface. Very natural product.
Also being pale and quite plump I would say enjoy yourself but most of all do use high factor sunscreen especially on your face . I agree totally with the floaty garments and layers. If you are visiting Thailand your height makes you stand out more than you body colour or shape as they are tiny people. But they wear long wraps, men and women, so only visitors expose pale limbs. I have snorkelled there and wore a long sleeve rash vest over my costume anyway as the sun is quite fierce. Dove sounds nice to try though but forget fake or spray tan as to me it always looks so obvious.
I wish my legs were just pale.Mine bruise at the slightest touch and also look like I’ve got brown socks on. (This is caused by varicose veins.) I usually keep my legs covered as I don’t want to make people feel ill!
