Jeans - and when to stop wearing them.

Made a decision this morning to ditch the jeans; I'm 70 and I've worn them constantly since my teens. Quite happy with leggings and pull-on trousers, and an elasticated waist band is sheer bliss. What do others think and do?

MawBroon Fri 09-Mar-18 14:29:31

Bo**ocks to that! gringrin
I am 70 in three days time and my only thought is that I may no longer fit last year’s!
Leggings are a total no no for me and my Bon Marché jeans have elasticaction at the sides of the waist.
What’s not to like?

tanith Fri 09-Mar-18 14:32:06

I'm 70 in July and I'm certainly not giving up my jeans and jeggings whatever next! ??

GrannyGravy13 Fri 09-Mar-18 14:52:32

My daughter has been nagging me to go into Top Shop as they have jeans for all shapes and sizes!!! I obeyed orders yesterday, and came out with 2 pairs, 1 black and 1 dark blue. They are so comfy I could sleep in them. I shall probably be buried in jeans and a nice cashmere jumper ???The young staff were so helpful.

stella1949 Fri 09-Mar-18 14:54:32

Oh no, never. I'm 68 and will never give them up. Stretchy fabrics are forgiving, and some elastic in the waist makes them comfy. I'll wear them until I die.

OldMeg Fri 09-Mar-18 14:54:46

And double bo***cks as well.

mcem Fri 09-Mar-18 15:35:42

And from me. Might even receive a new pair for my 70th (tomorrow)!
Must add though that I really am not looking forward to the birthday ( no fuss decreed) or to being 70.
Please don't point out the alternative.

silverlining48 Fri 09-Mar-18 15:41:24

Me too, 70 in Summer sitting here in my jeans as I type. No need to stop, unless you want to of course.
Happy birthday to McElroy and maw, Tanith you and I wait til the sun shines to celebrate.

silverlining48 Fri 09-Mar-18 15:43:09

Not sure where McElroy came from. I meant you Mcem. Happy birthday.

If you wish to quit jeans, quit. I'm well passed 70 and I love jeans. To each their own.

nonnasusie Fri 09-Mar-18 15:50:42

Another jeans fan here who is 70 later this year! I remember my aunt asking me many moons ago if I had got legs as she never saw them!? I hate tights so only wear skirts or dresses when it's warm enough to go bare legged! Fortunately all summer here!

Teetime Fri 09-Mar-18 15:52:47

Still wearing jeans mostly black ones but maybe faded Levis in the summer they look great with a white shirt.

goldengirl Fri 09-Mar-18 15:56:30

I'll never quit! Elastic waist when I feel I need it and 'normal' jeans when I feel, well, 'normal'.
What has age got to do with it?
It's how we feel and how we choose to dress, isn't it?
Like some other posters I'm almost 70 [can't believe it!!!]

Greyduster Fri 09-Mar-18 16:03:37

Jeans at 71 and for a while yet, I hope. Couldn’t live without them.

DanniRae Fri 09-Mar-18 16:05:46

I am 70 in the summer too!!
I do have some jeans (Debenhams and comfortable) but I don't wear them very often but then I never did wear jeans very often!! It's leggings, treggings or trousers for me, with a long top to cover my behind.

janeainsworth Fri 09-Mar-18 16:25:34

I’ve just bought some new Levi 712’s and they’re the best jeans I’ve ever had.
They look like cotton but they are actually lyocell/polyester/ viscose with a bit of elastane thrown in and as well as being a really good fit they are cosy and comfortable too.

mcem and maw wishing you both a very happy birthday ? ???

kittylester Fri 09-Mar-18 17:21:55

Well, I'm only 69 so I'm going to keep wearing them.

varian Fri 09-Mar-18 17:32:53

If I wanted to be really unpopular on GN I might say "the time to give up jeans is when you are more than a size 12. If you are a skinny old jeans-wearer you might look OK from a distance.", - but of course I'm far to diplomatic to say any such thing.

Wear what you like. Jeans are OK as long as they never become compulsary.

sodapop Fri 09-Mar-18 17:53:34

Over 70 size 18 happily wearing jeans.

We are independent women and can wear what we feel right in. I do draw the line at white leggings though smile

Tilly1234 Fri 09-Mar-18 18:11:24

I like this thread as it makes me feel a bit younger - not 70 til September ?- not looking forward to bring 70. Still wearing jeans - the skinny fit ones, with a longer top to cover my tummy. But recently I’ve been thinking I shouldn’t wear tunic tops and leggings - it’s wuite a young look and I caught sight of myself in a mirror in town the other day and thought I looked like a teenager (from the neck down!!)

Cherrytree59 Fri 09-Mar-18 18:21:30

Never - will more than likely be my coffin attire.
white if it's summer smile

mcem Fri 09-Mar-18 18:46:52

tilly that's something I 've thought about. When discussing the 'mutton dressed as lamb' dilemma with DGD (17) I made her promise that if ever I wear the wrong thing she will tell me!

I have lots of pairs of reading specs since my cataract op and yesterday she presented me with a fairly flamboyant pair, saying not many people would wear them but "you can get away with it, Gran".

She knows I'm not happy about the looming 70th so has reassured me that since I don't look 70 then I should just ignore it!!
She is looking forward to Disneyland Paris with the wee ones every bit as much as I am. She's a gem!

Alima Fri 09-Mar-18 19:24:43

I stop wearing my jeans every night when I get ready for bed. In the morning they go straight back on again. That will never change. Jeans belong to our generation so obviously we cannot get too old for them. Not so sure about the ones with the crotch down by your knees though. (Brilliant thread, makes me feel so young!)

Marmight Fri 09-Mar-18 19:41:18

Triple b****cks grin. Apart from when I'm in Oz, I wear jeans or leggings most of the time. I'll be 70 this year and the older I get the less bothered I am about what I wear, what I look like and what anyone else thinks about it. I've just acquired a personal trainer in order to enter my 70's a fitter, trimmer person. I love her to bits already - she didn't believe my age gringrin

Ditch jeans - perish the thought
