Or so Boots say about their new Line Correcting Booster Serum ? It costs £38.00 ? I wish I didn’t feel tempted to use it on the two lines between my eyes. Anyone else likely to have a go or have you got more sense than me?

COULD and UP TO 5 years. Those words doesn't mean anything. A big get-out clause.
My view is that the 17 thousand purported to be on a waiting list are crazy but each to her own.
You see what you want to see.
The Emperor's New Clothes, comes to mind.
It's not scientifically proven, only clinically and those trials were paid for by the companies who will profit, and Boots is one of them.
Their blurb states that 'we commissioned independent trials'.
I think that says it all. Who paid for the trials? Lol. Boots.
The number of women was 100 or less and were we told the ages? NO. Whether these women already had a regular skincare routine or not? NO.
A mix of ethnicities or predominantly white European? NO.
A mix of blonde, brunette, redheads, fair, sallow, olive, freckled, sun-damaged skin? NO.
All the above factors count but none were disclosed.

Sorry. Should read 'those words DON'T' blush

Nice one grin Chewbacca that put a smile on my face.

A quick fix to temporarily reduces fine lines and wrinkles is to apply haemorrhoid cream before makeup, it tightens the skin. Learnt that from a model.

Like Panache I also tried their other miraculous face cream - surprise, surprise it didn't make any difference so will not be trying the latest.

I second The Ordinary products. Minimal packaging and very inexpensive. They do a really good primer and I use their Buffet for moisturiser. Always used skincare and have pretty good skin but never spent a fortune! Also love Superdrug Hot Cloth Cleanser, at £4.99 and frequently on offer, it is a lovely gentle cleanser, much cheaper than Liz Earle!

I’m beginning to give up on serums, yes they feel great but boy are they expensive! I’ve started using Glycerin & Rosewater instead and it seems just as good to me. And a darn site cheaper too. Available from Boots, part of their Traditional range, £2.39 for 200ml, often found on the very lowest shelf. No, I’m not on commission haha grin

Chewbacca Sat 14-Apr-18 10:19:42

I've used that on my eye bags missdeke. It works, but it smells awful!

Marieeliz Sat 14-Apr-18 10:27:39

Saw someone purchasing it yesterday. They had a £5 voucher given to them by the assistant so got it for £33!

I will stick with my long fringe! These companies just play on women’s insecurities about their looks and age. We all feel under pressure these days. Don’t they say a smile is the best Face Lift?

Musicelf Sat 14-Apr-18 10:47:14

I never fall for any of this. How about trying the piles ointment instead? Not tried it myself, but it's supposed to do things to wrinkles......?

I worked on a cosmetics counter as a Saturday job when at school; the beauty consultant told me that most people in the know had a bathroom cabinet full of Nivea and similar budget items, and that if you put a little cooking oil on your face for a fortnight it would look better - the secret being using a moisturiser every day, not which moisturiser you use. I have remembered her wise words and use Nivea still. I've heard about the piles ointment trick. Never tried it though - has anyone else? I like glycerine and rosewater too - it's been around for years and makes your skin feel absolutely lovely.

A broad smile does more for your looks than any cream could! grin

The BBC did a programme recently which blew the whole expensive skin cream myth out of the water and proved that the cheap products were just as good as the expensive ones, and that the only useful ingredient was retinol. They advised looking at the list of ingredients and only buying those which had retinol near the top of the list, as this denotes a higher proportion in the mix. I treated myself to an over-60's event at Boots a couple of years ago, had make-over and bought the whole range of their then current serums, creams etc. The free make-over was nice but the creams had absolutely no effect on my road-map wrinkles, including the tramlines between my eyes! I've continued using the creams, just because I don't want to waste the money I spent and think that at least some moisturising might hold them at bay instead of them taking over completely! I also have some really cheap face cream I keep in our caravan (to save me having to pack to take down there with me), and they're just as soothing to use.
So Nankate, I'd use the £38 towards a different treat for yourself, so that you get the benefit and not Boots!
Anyway I look on aging the same way as wine, the more mature, the better!

I’m a sucker for the sales pitch...
off to Boots to try ( if not sold out )today
I’ll report back
......

Chewbacca I once bought some that had menthol in it and my eyes just watered all the time. grin

grandtanteJE65 Sat 14-Apr-18 14:12:35

Nothing in the way of anti-wrinkle cream, moisturiser or preparation to prevent thinning hair that I have ever been silly enough to try have worked.

I somewhat cynically suspect that they are all just a ploy to get us to spend our money!

What's wrong with looking our age? Remember when we were children and desperately added a half to our age, or even three-quarters?

Time we started frowning on the "cult of youth" - we are the age we are, and have experience to back it up.

I like your style Chewbacca! I use Lidl or Aldi face cream and once I’ve put my face on every morning I don’t see it again till I take it off at night! Life is too short! As someone else has said - what does 67 or whatever look like anyway? We are what we are. I’d rather put the £38 towards eg perfume, something I can enjoy.

For years I emulated my mother and grandmother's simple (four step) routine with great results. My grandmother's mantra was 'Never use soap on your face!' She had remarkably smooth skin and very few wrinkles even in her seventies. I'm told that in her prime, her beautiful skin was legendary.

Morning and night: (cleanse and moisturize)
a. Slather your face and neck with 'Pond's cold cream.
b. Rinse off twice; once with warm water then with cold water.
Use a generously sized towel (no tugging with tissues) to pat skin dry.
e. Remove traces of cold cream with cotton ball dabbed in a solution of Witch Hazel and Rose Water. Rose water only if skin is dry.
f. Apply your favorite moisturizer to face and neck

There has been a resurgence of Pond's cold cream lately, but I'm not sure if the ingredients are the same. On the plus side, most moisturizers today have some kind of sunscreen built in. Your biggest challenge may be finding Rose Water or Witch Hazel.

These days, I don't pay as much attention to my skin as I used to, but I still use moisturizers on my face instead of soap.

I stick to good old Oil of Olay Original Beauty Fluid as I've found nothing to beat it yet.
Why can't we wear our wrinkles with pride? They are, after all, badges of wisdom and experience.

Magrithea Sat 14-Apr-18 16:42:16

I bought something in Boots last weekend and was handed a voucher with my receipt with the words " Look out for our new product, it's a surprise but you'll love it!" from the assistant. I don't want to get rid of my wrinkles or grey hair (I gave up colouring 2 years ago) - I'm happy in my skin, thank you!

Tuppence21 Sat 14-Apr-18 16:44:19

Take your glasses off - it works wonders! Can't see the wrinkles!!?

Yellowmellow Sat 14-Apr-18 17:04:55

My mum and her 5 sisters only ever used Astral, Ponds, or the Nivea in the blue tin.....all in their 80's and have fantastic skin.....great genes I think.

Greciangirl Sat 14-Apr-18 17:49:32

I have used boots serums for around ten years now and I think my skin hasn’t aged very much.

But £38 does sound a bit steep and I imagine there’s not a lot of difference with the cheaper priced serum.
They keep changing the name and the packaging, that’s all.

M0nica Sat 14-Apr-18 18:49:37

Greciangirl, over 10 years how can you know that it is the cream that does it and it isn't just that you are naturally aging well?
