I love hats and they do suit me although these days its probably just a golf visor but I buy them in pretty colours. Just bought a new purple diamante studded one.

Hats and I just do not mix!!!
Whenever in the far past I have worn one ,usually for funerals.......I get asked if I am unwell?!
That was enough to put me off for ever....... and it has!

The only hats I wear are my bush hat and a fleece beanie for the cold weather. I didn’t wear a hat to my wedding and told my son I would only come to his if I didn’t have to wear a hat ?! However, having said that, I have a hankering for a nice felt trilby. I tried one once, on a stall at a country show, that fitted beautifully and was a lovely shade of dark blue, but I didn’t think I could justify the expense. Like so many other things I let it go and have regretted it since. I have tried many since, but none suited me as well as that one.

I love hats and wear them throughout the year. The weather determines the style.

And yet, I've never worn a hat to a wedding. There's no rule saying you have to so just don't. Make your own style. If people don't like it, shrug. That's their problem.

I find it astonishing that women our age can appear so hidebound by 'fashion'.

I ve never worn a hat in my life (well I wore a school hat) I really can’t stand them I ve never even wore them for weddings I always think I look ridiculous so not even a winter pull on or summer straw goes on my head

I agree Telly and a bit silly too.
I dislike wearing formal hats, but don’t mind straw sunhats or pull on woolly hats ( like Compo!) in Winter.
I keep two formal hats for weddings, and dress them up as necessary, but usually just bits of material.

As a follow up I have looked online and PETA state that the feathers come from birds that are slaughtered for skin or meat. But it does seem to me that sticking body parts of other animals on our heads is a tad unnecessary.

I quite like hats and will wear them, given the right occasion. However looking for a hat for a summer wedding and I have to ask - what is it with the feathers? We laugh at Victorian ladies who could plonk a whole bird on their head, and surely feel sad that birds of paradise paid such a high price in the name of fashion, but seems that we have not come such a long way. I guess that most of the feathers are chicken? Come from China? Harvested in the most cruel way they can think of? Don't know but surely time to move on to other forms or adornment?
