Cream foundation recommendations please

I don’t wear foundation often but recently, when I do, it all just sits in my creases and makes them worse!
After a bit of research, I gather that ‘cream’ foundations are better for mature skin.
I originally thought mine was cream but now think it’s liquid foundation.

Googling just confuses me so I’m hoping some of you wise women might be able to help me please.
What cream foundations can you recommend?

Thanks

Can't beat a tinted moisturiser if you have a tendency to creasing. Some also have SPF which we need all year round not just when the sun shines. Before I found one that suited me I would ask for a sample or book a makeover which many in store cosmetic counters will do for free.

Another one here who has tried the Look Fabulous Forever Foundation, primer and eye shadow. I sent the foundation back as it was very dry looking on my face, and not a good colour. I haven't got too many lines, but do have pores that show up. So many of the foundations just sort of "sit" in the pores so close up it looks cloggy. I'm pretty fed up with spending out on foundations and then finding they're no good. I used to use a Max Factor one for years, and then they stopped doing it, so bought the replacement version and oh my, it was so orange ! Horrid. Why have so many foundations got this horrid orange/beigy look? At the mo I use the Clinique Even Better which is ok... but again, spent out trying to find the right shade. Oh the trials of trying to be beautiful grin

Thanks for the tip, Oldmeg.
Maw, I too have tried the 'Look Fabulous' range and found it disappointing. The lipstick recommended for my colouring was OK, but, as usual, I couldn't keep it on - even with the lip primer. I do like the blusher but it's a lot pricier than others that are just as effective. I do love Liz Earle' products.
I used to buy the Barbara Daley blushers from Tesco, but a few years ago they disappeared.

Personally I opt for a tinted moisturiser with sun protection for eveyday wear. Light but with just a hint.

I only use anything ‘stronger’ at night when I go out ...which is almost never.

pollyperkins Fri 18-May-18 09:33:39

I do agree Maw. I have a horror of wearing too much make up and looking like the elderly Barbatra Cartland. I dont think heavy make up on a 'more mature' face looks good.

I must be in a minority of one.
Tempted by a Look Fabulous Forever offer I bought some products, a foundation, a silvery grey liquid eyeliner and a lipstick. I wish I hadn’t bothered!
The foundation looked heavy and (dare I say ageing) TG I hadn’t bought a primer as well, the lippy was matte and looked dry although long lasting (too long lasting) , but again looked so old ladyish (or like those mask faced harridans who man the beauty counters in department stores.)
The eyeshadow was OK but nothing to write home about.
The video showed the founder who I took to be a well preserved 80 and then found to my horror she was younger than me (just turned 70) The whole effect was heavy and frankly trying too hard.
Bobbi Brown or Liz Earle for me or Bare Minerals (if you like powder)
But just as even well-made clothes can be ageing, fashions in make up change and I think it is wise to remember that “less is more”

Boots No 7 intelligent colour is brilliant

OldMeg Thu 17-May-18 22:42:28

anno check out Bare Minerals they are cruelty free, not tested on animals.

annodomini Thu 17-May-18 22:10:34

I'd like to find a range of make-up not tested on animals. I have tried Body Shop but it looked rather 'cakey' in my magnifying mirror. Any suggestions?

Grandmama Thu 17-May-18 21:48:08

HELP! I've almost always used make-up every day: moisturiser, primer, foundation, loose powder. Then a couple of weeks ago I looked in the mirror wearing my reading glasses and was horrified to see my make-up. Without specs it looks fine. The powder looked heavy.
My pores looked huge and the pores on my nose (it's large although I wouldn't say totally ugly but the end is very slightly bulbous and pinkish) were full of foundation, there was a polka dot effect. Actually my make-up looked pretty awful. Can anyone offer a solution to the foundation settling in my nose pores? BB and CC creams are even worse.

Don’t always wear foundation but last year I discovered L’Oreal CC cream which is a white cream which develops into a colour on the skin. Suited me perfectly. Except I went to Boots this week to replace it and L’Oreal don’t do that one any more. What they seem to have replaced it with was very runny. I will look for the Aldi one which someone has suggested as I am a big fan of their moisturising creams.

lesley4357 I work full time and commute so I haven't got a lot of time. It take no more than five mins the moisturizer and bases goes on before i make my tea by the time I have made a cup of tea its set. The full make up, eyes and all takes no more than 15 mins. As Silverlining47 says the look Fabulous rang is meant to be good and they have a fantastic video blog that demonstrates how to look fab in 20 mins,

Don't know about you Flaxseed but I'm more confused now than when I started reading!

Joelsnan Thu 17-May-18 18:23:16

Clinique CC cream gives a lovely even coverage and you don't need much

Eloethan Thu 17-May-18 17:49:03

I would have thought a cream foundation would accentuate lines.

The one I liked best was a Clarins tinted foundation but, as always seems to happen, it was discontinued about seven years ago. I tried lots of different - some quite expensive - foundations but wasn't especially impressed. I now use Rimmel Match Perfection foundation which is cheap and, I think, just as good as the expensive ones.

harrysgran Thu 17-May-18 17:42:24

Max factor whipped creme is just like the name it's creamy and feels light on the skin you can build the cover up depending on how much you apply.

Silverlining47 Thu 17-May-18 17:32:39

I agree with Confusedbeetle and love Look Fabulous Forever primer (and their make up videos which are all for older women). The primer makes a huge difference. For summer I'm using a Bare Minerals light foundation. I recently went to a BM demo and found you only need a tiny dot of the foundation which you dab around your face then brush in. It's amazing how far it goes (which makes it very good value) and how well it covers without feeling there is anything on your skin.

JustAGodmother Thu 17-May-18 17:22:26

Another +1 for Aldi Lacura CC - it's as cheap as chips, goes on in 10 seconds (with a big foundation brush and looks good until the last dog walk of the day

blue60 Thu 17-May-18 16:32:09

I use Max Factor 'Lasting Performance'. It's been my go to foundation for over 20 years now. It dries almost matt - I don't care for what is on trend with regard to shine/no shine.

I use Rimmel translucent powder to 'set' it using a large brush - just a touch is enough. Lasts all day.

If it works, I don't fix it.

Cambia Thu 17-May-18 15:40:58

Go round the beauty counters and asked them to help you with the colour and type. They are really helpful and will give you a little sample to try before you buy. I did this recently and ended up with Estée Lauder double wear light foundation, which is the best I have tried and lasts all day. Chose a quiet day and they will give you lots of advice.

Ulli58 Thu 17-May-18 15:23:46

I have been using Clinique's Beyond Perfecting foundation and concealer (in one) and find it does not settle in wrinkles. It gives me good coverage and makes my skin look dewy and smooth with an even skin tone. Any blotches or red areas are covered and undetectable. Very pleased with this. You could always request a sample from a Clinique counter to try at home to see whether it suits you.

confusedbeetle Thu 17-May-18 14:54:10

Online "look Fabulous Forever" You probably dont want to buy foundation without testing it but they do a great "Primer" without colour to put on first. It is like a sort of light serum that smooths out all the little blips, also a one to put on eyelids in prep for shadow. The sight is interesting because they do loads of videos of make up techniques for older skin, some good tips

Allegretto Thu 17-May-18 14:48:18

Craftycat, I am with you in loving Bare Minerals original foundation. It works for me.

Dianic Thu 17-May-18 14:40:54

@pollyperkins Avon True Nutra Effects has a tinted moisturiser which is lovely over the mark. Magix Set & Prep spray (doubles as a primer and setting spray)... I'm 60 with quite a few wrinkles - from laughing - and I use this every day with a little blusher and bronzer. As someone else said, the spray sets your makeup and lasts all day long!
If you need more coverage, the same range of tinted BB creams will do the job too.
I've been an independent Avon rep for over a year now and have tried most things, lol! Yes, ditch the powder unless you just want a little on the T-zone. Stick with a dewy look, it's kinder to us!

HannahLoisLuke Thu 17-May-18 14:28:22

Ive tried most things. CC cream doesn't cover blemishes, nor does BB. CC cream is colourless and supposed to even out skintone before applying foundation. BB cream us like a foundation/ mousturiser in one. Primers can make your face greasy depending on the brand. I found Dior gave the best velvet finish but cost a bomb. Don't use it now.
Cream foundation I can't comment on as I always use a liquid finished with a light dusting of Avon Mark finishing powder which is white and matches any complexion. I'm 74 and don't have any problems with it sitting in wrinkles. I don't like my face looking shiny or greasy so the powder is a must, lightly dusted on with a large brush.
Hope you find something to suit you. Don't spend a fortune, I have in the past and it's not necessary.
