I loved it, stylish, chic and very Megan, the tiara was beautiful, she wore it well. Standout outfit for me was Amal Clooney, what a stunning colour, thought Pippa looked gorgeous too, posh, not so much....... what did you all think?

Grandmama Sun 20-May-18 21:14:33

I've always liked Princess Anne's wedding dress. Megan's dress was lovely although I wondered if it was going to slip down on one shoulder. Her mother was magnificent but she was all on her own, I felt for her but she seemed to take it all in her stride. Maybe because of her yoga and counselling background. I thought some of the congregation could have sung a bit more enthusiastically. The sermon was great, loved him and the way he delivered it. Doesn't say much for the royals if they were amused. The Queen often looks serious and grim.

How unkind, she was greeting her future son in law

Maggiemaybe Sun 20-May-18 20:33:48

I loved the dress and train. I thought the dress itself was perfect, so simple and elegant, and beautifully cut.

Fergie did look very stylish, but some wag posted a photo of her at the church door in her dark outfit with that high collar, eyes, mouth and arms wide open, and tweeted that it was the most dramatic arrival since Maleficient gatecrashed the christening. grin

It was a great spectacle but a bit parochial to assume that Britain is the only country able to do such a show. It was great , but plenty of other countries can do big occasions.

Anniebach Sun 20-May-18 20:07:49

I assume the extra twelve minutes was reserved for poverty and hungry children. Explains how he got away with it.

My dress in 1962 was a very similar style - same neckline but I had waist seam which had a line of piping around it - I had long sleeves with points and covered buttons and it was made in heavy duchess satin - reflects the light nicely.

Did you notice that most of the dresses had sleeves and only one was really skimpy and revealing!

TellNo1Ok Sun 20-May-18 19:55:14

My pennyworth as a non-royalist but interested... i thought Megan's dress was perfect... so elegant stylish and grown up... no jewels no bling ... the veil was glorious...
i also wondered why some nice royal hadn't been chosen to accompany Megan's mother... quite a lonely isolated but emotional position...
but who would you have chosen to be her "friend" ?

Daisyboots Sun 20-May-18 19:51:13

Apparently the Episcopal bishop's address had been pre-approved and he had a 5 minute slot for it but he added more and when on for 12 minutes. I sat and watched the whole 3 hours and loved every moment. Meghan's dress was amazing and fabulous workmanship to make a fitted dress with no darts in the front of the dress. Only the British can put on a show of pomp and ceremony like that.
A PP asked what she sees in him because she is older than him. It was obvious the whole way through that they love each other deeply and 3 years difference in age is nothing. I have several sets of friends where the wife is 10 years older but they are all very happy.

If Camilla was hiding behind her hat how did you manage to see she was talking ? And where in the vows did you see her talking?

SueDonim Sun 20-May-18 19:25:46

My dd wore a totally plain gown on her wedding day, no embellishment whatsoever. It was the antithesis of what she thought she wanted when she started to try on dresses but the moment she stepped into it, she knew it was The One. She also had a veil (why are they inappropriate nowadays?), though just a waist-length one.

My dd looked stunning (I would say that, wouldn't I!) in the simplicity of her attire. Less is more on the right person. smile

I loved it all . I did not see it as it was happening as I was out but I did manage to catch up with highlights about 8 pm then watched what i had recorded today.
I thought the dress was beautiful , simple ,classic and timeless. Gorgeous fabric and the tiara was stunning .I have never seen that one before. The veil was beautiful and I loved the idea of all the commonwealth flowers embroidered on it.
Brides mother's outfit was very pretty and just right for her , lovely colour too.
The Queen looked very elegant , did not notice her face being any different to normal.
Camilla I thought was quite rude throughout , hiding behind her huge hat to giggle when the American minister was ranting on and talking through musicians playing and the vows being said.
The tiny bridesmaids and pageboys were well behaved and very cute. I was quite disappointed that little George behaved to be honest I expected him to get up to some antics of some sort . I bet the bride and groom and his parents breathed a sigh of relief though.
Amal Clooneys outfit was super , I loved the colour and cut .
VB ...I like the coat but wish her dress underneath it was floral or a pretty print of some sort . She does not have a nice smile so she never does as for her sexy husband David Beckham , well he can wear a bin bag and look spot on.
I loved the dress worn by James Blunts wife.A beautiful yellow floral textured fabric with a Peter pan collar .So pretty.
Fergie looked a little out of place walking on her own into the chapel but she still has that sucky grin and scared rabbit eyes just like her eldest daughter. Those girls looked hideous .I think they do it on purpose and that they play some sort of game as to who can get the most awful comments in the press the next day.
A beautiful occasion overall.

Hollycat Sun 20-May-18 18:52:47

The dress was very nice, shame it didn't fit properly across the bust. A great deal of money for a poor fit. Was she wearing a bra? That could have been the problem.

Anniebach Sun 20-May-18 18:52:40

Yes Marcy, you admire Harry but why call the Windsors ignorant and uncultured, the only guest remotely connected to music was Elton John

Kim19 Sun 20-May-18 18:46:51

Apart from the beautiful bride, I loved the solitary splendour of her Mama. Wonderfully understated outfit. Just splendid. If I had been in her position, I would have absolutely chosen the solo option rather than being regarded as a spare part who needed company. I think she did a magnificent job. Thank you for clarity on Prince George's activities. I did spot him in the original entry and then wondered where he had gone at the second showing. I too have missed the curtesy even although I expected it and yet certainly did not see it. Must be becoming unobservant. All in all I just enjoyed a thoroughly uplifting day where the vast majority of people seemed happy for a change in these otherwise turbulent and troubled times.

Maccyt1955 Sun 20-May-18 18:32:22

Yes I said I admire Harry

Anniebach Sun 20-May-18 18:28:59

Harry is a patron of the Arts?

Maccyt1955 Sun 20-May-18 18:19:57

It was beautiful...I admire Prince Harry and Prince William, but I am afraid the smirking and not paying attention during the sermon and beautiful cello playing, just confirmed my opinion, that on the whole the royal family are ignorant and uncultured.

Mamgu27 Sun 20-May-18 18:17:27

Think someone could have accompanied meghans mum..what a lovely lady..even person sat next to her didn't seem to acknowledge her.

Greciangirl Sun 20-May-18 18:04:24

I also agree about the York girls. Very dowdy.

I didn’t see their mother Fergie there. I thought she was banned from the royal circle.

HannahLoisLuke Sun 20-May-18 17:58:26

Blinko, Prince George was there with another page behind the bridesmaids. However, on the way out he did his usual trick of hanging onto his father's hand and hiding behind him so didn't complete his page duties like all the other attendants, even the little girl of two! He seems very shy.
I loved Amal Clooney's outfit as already mentioned, also Countess Spencer's, though the colour was very dark.
Loved the whole thing, but, can anybody tell me, did Meghan curtesy to the Queen on leaving the chapel? Some people say she did but I didn't see it. Apparently ITV captured it on overhead camera but I watched BBC and so far haven't been able to get ITV on catchup. I'd really like to know.

Happysexagenarian Sun 20-May-18 17:52:48

Like most people I thoroughly enjoyed the wedding.

The little glances and smiles between Harry & Meghan throughout the service were lovely, and the moment when he lifted her veil and carefully arranged it brought tears to my eyes. I noticed that Prince Charles frequently looked fondly at his son, but if he chose not to watch as Harry made his vows it may have been that it was an especially emotional moment for him which he preferred not to show. I understand he made a very touching speech at the reception.

I thought Meghan's dress was classically beautiful, simple and very elegant, and I was pleased to see she didn't wear a necklace, the dress didn't need it. That tiara was stunning, though I held my breath as she ascended the steps of the Chapel with the full weight of that gorgeous train trailing behind her! But she managed it with great aplomb and the help of those wonderful little page boys.

I would have like to have seen more of the little flower girls and page boys, they were so beautifully dressed, and SO well behaved!

I have to agree that The Queen was rather serious yesterday, but perhaps it was just concern for Prince Philip. A long day of walking and standing just six weeks after major surgery, and he did look rather tired. At one point, while the Pastor was giving his Address, I wondered if PP might doze off!

I personally enjoyed the American Pastor's spirited Address. Yes, it was a little too long, but what a great delivery. He certainly got everyone's attention! I couldn't help but notice the little smiles between H & M when possible future generations were mentioned...... Anyone taking bets on when there will be a baby announcement!

I too thought the Doria Ragland's (Bride's Mother) ensemble was understated and very elegant, and she coped wonderfully with the whole occasion.

Also liked the style of
Pippa Middleton
The Duchess of Cambridge
HM The Queen
Princess Michael of Kent
Sophia Wellesley
Kitty Spencer

Definitely didn't like,,,,
Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie - so old fashioned!
Oprah Winfrey - dress too tight, hat too big.
Gina Torres - her dress looked like a patchwork of dyed net curtains.
Sophie, Countess of Wessex - lovely colour dress but the skirt seemed to be too full or too long. It made her look much older than she is.
Victoria Beckham - her outfit was more suited to a funeral! And she could at least have tried to smile! I don't know what her husband sees in her, she's always so sulky, I've never seen her smile!

I enjoyed the music and joined in singing the hymns, but I would have loved to have heard a more 'punchy' rendition of Stand By Me.

But all in all I thoroughly enjoyed the whole event. We do occasions like this so well in Britain.

Nanny41 Sun 20-May-18 17:47:39

What a lovely Wedding it was, everything went so well. Meghan looked radiant, her dress was plain but elegant. The little page boys were superb, together with those cute little bridesmaids.
As for Victoria Beckham, the miserable s - d she looked as though she was going to a funeral, not a Royal Wedding.
The York girls looked so old fashioned, but at least they didnt wear outlandish hats like when William and Kate got married. Nodody could out do Meghan it was a wonderful day,I wish the happy couple all the best for their future.

luzdoh Sun 20-May-18 17:41:47

pollyperkins I agree. I don't criticise the Queen whom I admire. But she looked so incredibly cross! Actually I wondered if her age was telling on her. She does do an awful lot for a lady of her age and maybe her legs ached or she just felt very tired. Perhaps she needs a bit of TLC. I thought Prince Philip looked at her with a worried expression once. He does amazingly well.
