My favourite pick-me-up - scarves! What’s yours?

Rather like a new lippy my go-to “pick me up” is invariably a new scarf, in fact I find them almost impossible to resist.
Whether it’s a £6 cheapo from our local market (great selection, fantastic value) or one from Joules who design them in colourways to go with their Harbour tops or my latest, a pashmina made of recycled cashmere from Turtle Doves, they just lift my spirits.
I am incapable of parting with any of them too, so I have drawers full! blush

I too suffer from scarfoholism. I can't count how many I have. I did a Colour Me Beautiful consultation a while back so tried to cull those that did not match my palette, i.e. that were in colours that didn't suit me. I feel they transform an outfit and can be used to create so many looks! I especially love ones with fringes, tassels and beading. I was narked recently as I bought one in M&S at full price and then, a week later, there was a 20% off on Sparks card. Unfortunately, in my haste to wear it, I had removed the label so could not return it! Scarf-aholics of Gransnet unite!

My pick -me-up is a new magazine or book, being an avid reader! Or getting my hair coloured if i can afford.

I have a drawerful of scarves and hardly use any of them.
I always seem to wear the same two, over and over again.

I feel comfortable with these two, whereas with all the others, I’m not quite sure what to do with them or how to wear them
.
Must have a sort out.

I have two drawers of scarves and they are overflowing! As a short****, I don’t feel swamped ?

Beau, I agree with you. I’m envious of people who can wear scarves and look elegant, but I feel silly as if I’m wearing them wrong. I’ve even had comments that I look awkward when wearing them. I’d love to cover my wrinkled neck, but have given up.

I like to knit complicated scarves, lacy and cable, I have a box full of them and not much idea what to do with them!

I completely agree, MawBroon. I adore scarves and have loads of them. And I actually do wear them all the time in Spring, Autumn and definitely Winter... but not so much in summer of course. I feel naked around my neck without a scarf, and I've got some gorgeous ones in all colours, fabrics, a couple of hand knitted, etc. And when I get an attack of shopping fever but can't afford much then a scarf is a wonderfully cheap way of feeding my fever.
I've quite often bought a scarf for a friend's birthday, whatever, and them kept them as I can't bear parting with it. I think I am a scarfaholic.

Yep, lots and lots of scarves. I have a long neck of which I used to be very proud, now it’s just somewhere for even more wrinkles to gather! grin Gave a lot of warm ones to refugees recently but there are many I just couldn’t bear to part with.

Scarf-aholic. Didn't know there was a name for it but I definitely have it. Some have been expensive gifts, well known names, silk and cashmere. Others, also gifts but budget buys that I like to think were chosen with care so just as meaningful. Treats for myself, charity shop, a reminder of a day out, do I need an excuse? NO. I do try to hold to the rule, one in, one out but the one coming out usually goes back in.

Nanny41 Wed 06-Jun-18 11:02:00

I love scarves too, but I can never get them right somehow, I dont look elegant like some women do.

NfkDumpling Wed 06-Jun-18 11:05:53

Scarves here too. Dangling in front they hide my belly!

GeminiJen Wed 06-Jun-18 11:30:00

Maw...Another scarfaholic here....but ....."pashmina made of recycled cashmere from Turtle Doves".......that's a new one on me. Got me thinking whether the feral pigeons that plague my garden might be put to good use hmm

Craftycat Wed 06-Jun-18 11:42:28

Would quite like to try a scarf but anything touching my neck brings me out in a very hot sweat. Been the same since I was a child. Luckily I don't feel the cold much.

Can't do scarves, even in winter, or polo neck jumpers. Can't stand anything round my neck l feel as though I'm choking however loose they are. My cheer me up is yarn and a new knitting or crochet project.

oldandbold Wed 06-Jun-18 12:09:52

Maw...I am so glad I am not alone with my scarfoholism (thanks Pamalaga). I have about 50-60 and my family consider this quite eccentric! I love them and wear them! Now I can refer them to this thread, and prove I am not at all odd or alone in this scarfoholism!

oldandbold Wed 06-Jun-18 12:11:58

Sorry Pamaga, I mistyped your name.

Aepgirl Wed 06-Jun-18 12:17:51

I had so many scarves that I had a grand clear out and took some of them to the charity shop. Since then on a couple of occasions I have gone to wear one and realised it was one that I have disposed of. I try not to hoard but get caught out when I don't!

AlieOxon Wed 06-Jun-18 12:30:48

I wouldn't say I'm a scarfoholic, but I have one favourite which I keep losing - and so far it has come back!
Twice in the post, and once when I went back to a pub (not knowing where I left it) and was presented with it as they had kindly kept it and recognised me!

I hope it stays....

Willow500 Wed 06-Jun-18 12:39:12

I have 3 drawers full of scarves and pashminas - and never wear any of them. Some I've bought but quite a few have been gifts. Like someone upthread said I love the look of them but when I wear them they get on my nerves and I feel all cluttered up so end up taking them off.

Daisyboots Wed 06-Jun-18 12:59:24

I love scarves and they look so elegant... on other people but like Beau I feel stupid when I wear one and think I look a mess. Even after watching lots of videos showing different ways of using them. I have about 12 scarves some of which were my Mum's. I do display them though as I put one of the over door hanging things on the outside of my bedroom door and hung them on there so they brighten up the upstairs landing.

coast35 Wed 06-Jun-18 13:29:19

I have a collection of scarves from MoiraC Apparently she is on QVC. I first stumbled across them in a display at a shopping mall. They have a small magnet at each end which saves the faff of tying them. She also has a wee video on her site showing different ways of wearing them. They are also available through Amazon. I love them.

Blinko Wed 06-Jun-18 13:30:48

Another scarfaholic here. Also a fan of Turtle Doves recycled cashmere. I have no idea how many scarves I have. Note to self: must get them out and organize them somehow.

Kim19 Wed 06-Jun-18 13:31:27

Thank goodness this is a weakness I've not indulged in. I have enough of them already and I'm trying to offload. However, I do watch and admire those who obviously have 'a way' with scarves but I do it from a self imposed distance.

Juggernaut Wed 06-Jun-18 14:14:51

I have about thirty scarves, ten Pashminas, and at least eight wraps, and hardly ever wear any of them.
I buy them in the hope that they'll hang nicely, hide my tum a bit and generally make me look elegant, but I always end up looking like a bag of rags.
If I ever attempt to eat whilst wearing a scarf, well, it's just somewhere to store whatever misses my mouthblush

Overthehills Wed 06-Jun-18 15:14:16

I’m sure all of you who think you don’t suit scarves really do! Doesn’t matter how you wear them or how they fall or whatever - I bet others are admiring them! Just do it!
