Rather like a new lippy my go-to “pick me up” is invariably a new scarf, in fact I find them almost impossible to resist.
Whether it’s a £6 cheapo from our local market (great selection, fantastic value) or one from Joules who design them in colourways to go with their Harbour tops or my latest, a pashmina made of recycled cashmere from Turtle Doves, they just lift my spirits.
I am incapable of parting with any of them too, so I have drawers full! blush

Me too with scarves, very handy for hiding my increasingly wrinkly neck! My second pick me up is playing 70's rock music, very loudlygrin

Mapleleaf....the cup of coffee and a magazine a real treat, I can relate to that very well. It's that shut off time from whatever else is going on around me.

Kittylester my sister like you prefers beads, cost irrelevant if she like's something that's it, 20p or £20 she has to have it. She has style and can carry big jewellery off very well. Mainly beads of all sizes are her favourites. Her hair is shoulder length and she has decided not to give way to grey and has her natural colour from her younger days maintained, and a scarf just does nothing for her, but beads add that wow factor for her. She has so many that she bought a slim wooden tall boy to keep them in. She doesn't like them piled on top of each other. Some are boxed because they are second hand from antique fairs or second hand shops, or charity shop other are as you say from supermarkets or other shops. We never fail to please her with a gift of jewellery, beads in particular so some are from Jewellery stores. Doesn't matter it's the equivalent of my scarf collection.

MagicWriter I find the best thing to do is not to 'set' the scarf, keep it natural. The material is the clue, soft and flexible as you would guess is the best, try it various ways until you feel nice. I find that if I am aware of the scarf then I haven't got it right, and off it comes and try another one. Generally plain with pattern and pattern with plain is what I do, but then I am a bit old fashioned. I do think some people can mix patterns really well. Not me though, I look like a dogs dinner if I mix patterns.

Henbane, it's a lovely shawl, the colours are still fabulous, after all these years.

I’m not really into scarves (never know how to wear them ) other than in the winter to keep warm .

I have a lovely deep blue scarf holder (bought as a gift but never used ) I would be happy to send to anyone who would like it . Just PM me smile

I can't cope with scarves though I probably have a dozen or so. I love beads and necklaces of all types - expensive ones and some bought in supermarkets and charity shops. In fact, I bought a lovely one in Sainsbury's yesterday.

And, like ga, I always have flowers about - definitely in the hall and on the kitchen table.

My feel good go to is books, I am having to try and stop myself buying anymore until I have read some more of the dozens I have. and a trip to the library ( why do I need to go there) is my idea of heaven.
On the subject of scarves, I have a few, but never know how to wear them or what with as most of my tops are patterned. I will have to search utube for ideas as I do think other women do look a bit more sophisticated when wearing them

Allygran, I've got the Liberty blue peacock feathers wool shawl too - my son, then a student, bought it as a Christmas present when he had a friend with a part-time job in Liberty's who bought it on staff discount!

I keep bulky shawls & stoles in the wardrobe, but fine silk ones hang on a special scarf/tie/belt hanger (a plastic triangle with holes) which is on a picture hook on the wall - it doubles as decoration!

I love scarves too, and have 3 drawers filled with them, plus a couple of special ones stored in their box. They really do lift an outfit.
Another pick me up is a nice cup of coffee with a magazine to read or here on GN! (As now ??).

So pleased to hear that others have scarf passion.
I have scarf's that I bought over forty years ago.
Some are very cheap but favourite colours or materials and bring back memories of the way I felt when I wore with certain outfits. Shawls of all sizes, materials and colours, pattern. My favourites are the ones that I either got in sales, so I could get very cheaply good 'brand' names or great scarfs that I bought in Charity Shops.

My family say I treat my scarf's like precious antiques. The ones I don't wear regularly, are taken out of their boxes I look at every one, then they are washed or dry cleaned. I do this at least every six months. They are then put back into tissue before being put back into their storage boxes. Not because they are, as I said particularly expensive, just because I love them, and never know when I might need that certain scarf to turn an ordinary outfit into something special.

As other posters have said, I simply cannot throw them away. Every now and then a favourite will start to look a bit 'well loved' shall I say, and I know it has to go, but it can take me months to actually bring myself to dispose of it.

My oldest fine wool scarf (my first shawl scarf) is a Liberty one. Fab colours all shades of blue's, and shades of lilacs in of course the Liberty peacock feathers, very outdated now, but I could never get rid of it. I remember when I bought it in the sale in London, when I wore it, and with what. It brings back such lovely memories of great times. Lots more like that. It sounds really silly, but ... well what can I say!

I like earrings, I think they can 'finish off' an outfit and they can be very cheap, sometimes from a supermarket.
Otherwise I go out in the garden and look at a flower.

My favourite pick me up? A good chat and get together with a friend. Preferably in person with a coffee, but a phone call is still mood uplifting for me.

Grannyknot Thu 07-Jun-18 06:30:39

Camelotclub 're your post from yesterday and knitting complicated scarfs (scarves?) - me too! I give them away.

My pick-me-up is to buy a "deep moisture mask" and come home and take my time with a mini beauty treatment at home. The mask is often the kind that looks like a ski mask with cut outs for eyes and mouth and requires me to lie quietly for 15 minutes while it soaks in... then afterwards I feel like a million dollars (all for a few pounds) smile

Like a few others here, I just can't wear anything like polo neck tops, necklaces or anything round my neck as I feel as if I'm being strangled.
Many years ago when I was 16 my mum gave me a silver chain with a crucifix which had been given to her by an Italian POW.
I left it on in bed that evening and woke up feeling that I was being choked. When you are panicking you can't undo fiddly things so I broke the chain and cut my fingers in the process. I can't wear nail varnish either as it makes my hands feel 'heavy'.
Weird? Yes.

I too love scarves and I bought a beautiful cream, grey and blue silk devorè one whilst on holiday in Prague. First time I wore it was to go to a posh restaurant for evening dinner. We went down the escalator to get on the subway and a huge whoosh of air blasted up from the subway, caught hold of my lovely new scarf and it flew off back up the escalator. By the time I'd got to the bottom and gone back up, it had gone. sad

spabbygirl Wed 06-Jun-18 22:17:02

I love scarfs too, but I tell my husband I only wear minimal jewellery & diamonds would cost a lot more!! smile I have them hanging on a pole in the bedroom & love looking at them, except the cashmere ones. A moth invasion got at my scarfs when they were packed in carrier bags under the bed! I'm going to buy those thick plastic ones from Lakeland now.

NanKate Wed 06-Jun-18 22:16:07

Costume jewellery from charity shops. Last week I bought 5 necklaces/pendants, one bracelet, and one velvet multi coloured scarf all for £10.50. What a bargain.

Brigidsdaughter Wed 06-Jun-18 22:10:38

I've never worn a 'dressy' scarf ever and now can't wear anything like that and feel right. However, I've got into wide scarves or wraps. They just feel so comfy and a level of cosiness and look good

narrowboatnan Wed 06-Jun-18 21:32:14

Oh dear. I don’t seem to have got the hang of this scarf wearing malarkey

GrauntyHelen Wed 06-Jun-18 20:40:26

I TOO am a scarfaholic love them!
