No brows!

I didn't brace myself for such a major loss in older age - my eyebrows have pretty much taken their final bow! I don't want to go down the tattoo route (a close friend had this done and the result wasn't pretty!), but desperate to find a way to make my brows look like brows again!
What do you lovely ladies do?

Look Fabulous Forever do a very good brow shaper, which is natural looking and has transformed my sparse brows.

Until last year I had very good brows, which gradually vanished ( due to thyroid problems).I use Avon brow glimmersticks now, and a little powder brushed over them.
L’oreal Brow Artist Genius Kit. Inexpensive and in different colours.

I’ve never had very visible brows either, but tend to just use pencil, I found it quicker/easier than the kits with powder.

I have the eye drops (for glaucoma) that make eyelashes longer/thicker, but frankly it’s a nuisance as they always need plucking as they either don’t grow straight and irritate my eye, or keep touching my glasses. Almost tempting to try them on my eyebrows though!

My brows are now very thin (and no, I didn't overpluck them when younger!)
I had them dyed at first - worked well, but then became allergic to the dye, so was not going to risk a tattoo.!
My favourite (apart from the stupid name) is Gimme Brow by Benefit

I use a grey brown eyeshadow and brush that into my eyebrows to give them some definition. On one of my eyebrows one or two stray hairs seem to stick forward and I pluck them out as Vaseline or wax won’t keep them under control. I think well looked after eyebrows frame a face nicely.

I am a redhead with very fair eyebrows. Despite being a little nervous at first (I have very sensitive skin), I started dying them at home.
My hairdresser commented on good they looked. I also use Benefit's Gimme Brow to enhance them.

With Rapid Brow is it a case of once the brows are restored you can stop using it, or do you have to continue treatment if you want the brows to stay?

NotAGran55 Fri 27-Jul-18 06:08:26

Rapid Brow works very well . I have had patches for years and now have full brows after using it for 5 weeks.
Cheapest I have found is on Amazon .

I know a few people who have used rapid lash on their lashes. It really make a difference. It contains an ingredient that is used in the treatment of glaucoma. I actually trim the eyelashes of an older gentleman whose eyelashes grow so long they touch his glasses!
One of them has also used it on her brows and swears she can she a difference. I’m not convinced but it won’t do any harm to try it.

The thing with the tattoos is its only the awful ones you notice. The good ones don't look "done" so you don't register them.

grannysyb yes me to. I am fair skinned and played with all sorts if brown but found grey powder gives a fairly natural looking look

grannysyb Thu 19-Jul-18 12:20:43

I just brush a mid grey powder eye shadow onto my rather sparse eyebrows.

If you can get to a benefit brow bar they are great for tinting and waxing brows, they make my barely seem blonde eyebrows look normal! The tint lasts for about 6 weeks which is great. They also offer a service where they will show you how to fill them in and maintain them as well. P

Loads of black eye brow pencils on Amazon so must be available elsewhere too.
I dye my brows but don't bother with my lashes because you still need mascara unless you have very thick and long lashes which I don't.

Why don't they do a black colour for brows? I have black eyebrows and grey hair. I cannot find black eyebrow stuff anywhere so I just use a black pencil.

A few helpful tips here for thinning eyebrows.

Bookatbedtime Wed 04-Jul-18 15:55:31

My brows all fell out (well I was left with a few hairs) and I bought Rapid Lash for eyebrows which you apply to the area where your brows should be, like a clear mascara, twice a day. It took about four weeks of this routine and mine are back better than ever. I bought it from Amazon where it is slightly cheaper but still about £28.

tattoos can be life changing/dermotologist /tattoo artist i know, worked for years developing ink colors to match skin tones.young friend had double radical mastecamy.and her nipples were removed,he created the illusion of nipples for her, made such a differnce in her life.he also disguised scars, you can't cover them because of the scartissue not having pores .he changed so many lives with his work.
if you go to an artist even if you don't know much about tattoos whtch them work look at finished product.skin should not be"hamburgered"sign of a heavy hand, see if they give aftercare advice-antibiotic ointments,no sun, wash daily, after a day or 2 let air get to them only bandage when doing dirty work .do not go by artists own tattoos, few tattoo themselves.

I have never had eyebrows as i am a redhead , i plucked up courage and got tattoos, they only last 1 year on me.you have to have a very good person who does tattoos, i know someone in tyne and wear who i would recommend, she does lovely work for cancer patents and alopicia sufferers, so its not just cosmetic eyebrows. Failing that there is a easy eyebrow crayon you can get from super-drug that is great.

Tinting and shaping. I had it done last week for the first time and should have started doing it years ago.

specsappeal1 Wed 04-Jul-18 13:48:56

Tattooing can look brilliant. Find a good therapist. You don’t have to go for the very defined look. I know a great practitioner in Cambridgeshire.
Tinting can help to define where the hairs are and then you could fill them in with one of the many pencils, powders available.
