I would like a dress

something fairly simple, maybe a v neck. buttons up the front. Midi length? Nice fabric.

Does anybody know of such a thing please?

I buy Toast dressescin their sale- John Lewis do them too. I buy some full- price things each year too. They are so well made they last ages, and I really like the styles. I wear ankle boots with dresses in the winter, with tights, and Converse or Spring Court canvas trainers in the summer- have given up heels. I’d love to be able to wear them, but I have difficult feet!

There seem to be a lot of Toast dresses on ebay. I might just be tempted.

I've just bought a Seasalt top and it is made of bamboo - I'm a bit nervous about washing it!
I remember when DD bought bamboo nappies and the instructions were not to tumble dry.

DoraMarr Toast is a bit out of my price bracket. Just looked at the website and wasn't sure about the DMs with dresses look!
Another vote for Seasalt here.

I wear Toast dresses because they are made from beautiful fabrics, but the cut is fairly plain, so they fall beautifully. There are always some which button up at the front: there’s a nice denim one I have my eye on.

Oh, I don’t know. I quite fancy being a ladylike hotshot.

Here we go again. Not men in short skirts this time though but “bare backed bandage dresses” ??? confused
Why was this poster not barred after last weeks incidences of spam?

Pamela J1 Sorry only just seen question. I think Seasalt sizes are fairly accurate. Maybe best to try 12 and 14. They wash so well and some don't need ironing!

I also like Lindybop. Someone on GN recommended them a while back and I have had a couple of lovely dresses and tops from them. The quality is very good.

I didn't see anything like that in their shop!

oldbatty Tue 10-Jul-18 14:53:02

ah ha! I think I may have struck gold there!!

thanks for your ideas folks. Some are too clingy for me. Sorry clingy is a non starter. Post menopause I quickly gained 2 stone and haven't really got my head around it.

I think the most suitable might be Kim and Co petite, although when my son lived here we used to crease ourselves laughing at her going on about her pieces.

Its a problem wondering if something is too young looking. ....I usually ask my daughter but sometimes I don't agree with her ?

annep Tue 10-Jul-18 11:31:39

PamelaJ I think true to size. Anyone??

Jalima1108 Tue 10-Jul-18 10:33:34

I haven't 'run up a dress' on the sewing machine for about 20 years when the last one I made was an absolute disaster. I have made cushions, curtains and lots of bunting though.

annodomini Tue 10-Jul-18 10:29:35

There was a time - 50 years ago - when I thought nothing of buying some pretty cotton and running up a dress in a day. Now I seem to have lost all confidence in my ability to handle a sewing machine, not to mention a pair of scissors. I need to shorten a skirt which I bought from Ebay , very pretty but a maxi when I thought I was buying calf-length. Maxis make me look dumpy... or dumpier. How lovely it would be to make myself a dress!

mumofmadboys. I’m a size 12 but on the bigger end of the spectrum. Are sea salt generous in their sizes or a bit on the mean size?

lemongrove Mon 09-Jul-18 23:03:39

Mantaray at Debenhams.

mumofmadboys Mon 09-Jul-18 21:57:37

I would support Seasalt too

Jalima1108 Mon 09-Jul-18 20:15:44

I have a dress similar to the one pictured in lindybop in a totally different colour - however, it's a bit hot for this weather, being chiffon over a lining. I nearly threw it out because I thought it was a bit young for me.

OldMeg Mon 09-Jul-18 19:35:06

I’ve bought a coupe of very comfortable and flattering dresses by Manderay at Debenhams. Reasonably priced too.
