How would you describe how you are feeling in this hot weather?

I don't know about other gransnetters, but I really struggle with this heat, and it brought to mind a passage from the film To Kill a Mocking Bird which for me sums up the unusual high temperatures that we are experiencing here in England perfectly.

'Ladies bathed before noon, after their 3 o'clock naps, and by nightfall, were like soft teacakes with frosting from sweating and sweet talcum'.

Do other gransnetters have a description of this heatwave?

I can't stand it. I said the same last year, and promised I wouldn't complain when it turned cold.
I really do dislike being too hot.

Feeling sluttish lazing around and not doing my day jobs until evening as too hot .We don't normally get this sort of weather so not really bothered.

I'm loving the summer, feeling warm at last.

Hello MissAdventure nice to hear from you - even if you are too hot!

I have been baking as well this afternoon - cakes
hmm

Feeling sluttish lazing around
Interesting sarahellen - I know exactly what you mean when you say 'sluttish' ie lazy, not getting the whites out on the line first thing on a Monday, not doing your doorstep with a donkey stone etc - but I think some would say it has changed its meaning over the years
grin

Loving the heat, no aches and pains, and best of all I don't have to mow the grass as it has turned to something resembling an old-fashioned coir doormat!

Sorry for all of you who are wilting - I droop in rain, not sun and heat.

I feel as if I'm on a holiday that I haven't paid for!
If only this weather could be guaranteed every summer I would never set foot on a plane again.

DanniRae, sorry we do not grow potatoes, but at a rough guess I would have a little dig around with my hand and see if they were of an expected size. We tend to grow above the ground produce, as the Grandchildren love to watch things grow.

It's been hot hot hot here in Ireland for weeks. The grass is brown and we have a hosepipe ban. I cope ok when indoors or in my air conditioned car, but would hate to spend too much time in the sun. Hubby wanted to take the grandchildren to the seaside. I fear I would end up fainting in the heat.

I feel very comfortable. Having moved back to the uk from France, which can be very hot and humid for weeks on end, this recent fresh and sunny weather has been a lovely surprise ?. Even better, we now live on a hill.

Happysexagenarian Tue 10-Jul-18 16:25:51

I am really enjoying waking up to wall-to-wall sunshine every day. It makes a nice change for the UK to have some decent summer weather. But I'm glad I'm retired and don't have to commute on stuffy tube trains and buses. Here on the south coast it's a little cooler today but still beautifully sunny, and although I'm tempted to be lazy and sit in the garden I am getting as much washing done as possible (big items like curtains and duvets) while the weather lasts. I hope it will last till the end of August as our GC will be visiting at the end of August and it nearly always rains when they visit! The only downside is our dog is missing his long walks over the Downs as it's just too hot for him.

DanniRae Tue 10-Jul-18 16:32:01

Oh, thanks GrannyGravy - I will have a delve! grin

Rosina Tue 10-Jul-18 16:58:01

*!!**!! AWFUL.

Grandma70s... what do I enjoy about this weather ?
Less aches and pains, yes, there are those of us who feel ill in cold wet weather too.
Leaving the house without having to take loads of various clothing , just in case.
Being in the garden and able to enjoy seeing the fruits of our labours.
Days out when we don’t have to rush to find shelter from rain and wind.
Feeling free from being bundled up in layers of clothes. Let me know when you are around and I’ll try to cover anything that might offend you.
I could go on but you get the gist.

Hi jalima smile
Well, I couldn't miss out on the chance to have a moan!
Its my only pleasure these days.

Ooh, I love it, having lived in the tropics for a few years, and I go brown as soon as I step outside. But this year I have pedigree indoor cats and I dare not open the windows in case they escape! I have ordered child locks, just got to get them fitted. I have trained the cats to a jacket harness and lead, and am outside every day with them so they can explore safely, but they are still a bit nervous. When the cats sleep is my time outside for a spot of gardening or to sit and read under the trees.

Jaycee5 Tue 10-Jul-18 17:51:11

Lovely cool breeze right now and blue sky from my window. I wish it would always be like this.

Aepgirl Tue 10-Jul-18 18:30:11

Absolutely lovely. I love the heat, and am much better tempered than when I am cold. However, a little rain would be nice!

leeds22 Tue 10-Jul-18 20:26:37

Loving it.
Had a cool morning yesterday, with a light mizzle which did nothing for the garden but much relieved to say today has been glorious for our 9 miles over the tops from Kettlewell to Arncliffe and back. Must admit I could do with a bit more sleep though.

cavewoman Tue 10-Jul-18 20:56:59

leeds22 I am green with envy envy

Happily, the hot weather we had here in NE US last week, finally broke and 'cooler' weather has set in (for now).

During our recent heat wave (worst day was 97 degrees F, with 80% humidity), I couldn't stay outdoors much without feeling extremely hot and bothered. Thankfully, we have central air conditioning in our house. When it gets that way, I stay indoors, low activity, loose clothes, light meals only and cold beverages that have no sugar.

Purplepoppies Tue 10-Jul-18 22:26:57

Moist ? ?
Tired. As I'm perimenopausal I'm melting from within too.
Not a good look. Thank goodness I gave up on make up some years ago ?

Legs55 Tue 10-Jul-18 22:46:17

I normally love the sun but it has been to hot to do much in the garden. Nice to be able to dry washing outside. Sleeping has been a problem & I find I'm not going to bed before 1/2am, I was in the shower just before going to bed at 2am the other morning. Housework is done in the coolest parts of the day & then it's the bare minimumblush. As there is only me & cat (even he's complaininghmm) I've only got myself to pleasegrin.

My appetite is suffering but I'm not losing weightconfused. I am rather enjoying sunshine but cold do with soft, gentle rain during the night for the gardensmile

garnet25 Tue 10-Jul-18 23:08:41

Absolutely loving this weather, topping up of vitamin D to get me through the dark months when I suffer from SAD. Chores are done early or late including watering the many pots in the garden. Washing up and shower water saved for the plants. Dreading the end of summer, having to wear lots of clothes, getting cold getting rained on, but most of all the dark mornings and afternoons.

gillybob Tue 10-Jul-18 23:12:33

Haven’t seen much of it as I spend almost all my time in a sh*t hole with bars on the windows. Sunshine ? Really ? I’m looking forward to 2030 when I can retire although might not live that long at this rate. Still that’s one less pension to pay out.
