Melania - a shallow fashion thread

Doesn't Melania Trump always look fabulous? (except for that recent parka with the "Who cares" message).

I thought last night's yellow dress was absolutely stunning when they arrived at Blenheim Palace (did not think Teresa May's dress with a high split up the back was ideal for people following up steps behind her!) and today she looks gorgeous too. Her fashion sense is pretty much spot-on in my opinion.

seacliff I hadn't realised that was a VB dress. I did think it was very nice, eye catching without being fussy. I think the colours suited her better than the pale ones she usually seems to wear.

I thought Melania looked ok in the yellow but without the batwings would have been better. TMs red gown suited in terms of colour, but the back slit should have been shorter and short sleeves would also have been more stylish for someone in her position. I think AM looks great in that evening outfit. Very glam.

I can't really understand the obsession among the glitterati with very high heels. That goes for our own younger royals as well as Melania. It looks so old fashioned somehow. As well as being ( as we older and wiser folks know) so darned uncomfortable. As someone has said already (maybe on this thread or another discussing fashionistas) it's akin to foot binding. Awful.

Jalima1108 Wow! Look at that pic of Angela M. I didn't recognise her.

Did anyone see the footage of Melania visiting the Chelsea pensioners? She was wearing a VB dress in red white and blue, and she carried it off very well. She had a go at bowling, wearing her huge heels as usual. I was just imagining the lawnkeepers dismay, normally you have to wear flat shoes so as not to spoil the turf.

She did look much happier and more outgoing than normal. Probably because DT wasn't with her!

I think Angela sees her jackets and trousers as a uniform in the same way as a male politician would wear a suit. The only decision she has to make each day is what colour to wear.

grin

Angela seems to have decided that wearing the same style of suit/outfit, for all her work engagements might stop endless discussion about what she's wearing.
As If!

I think the same Iam, i admire T May, so much in a short time realy and she remains calm and dignified

Jalima1108 Sat 14-Jul-18 20:43:55

I think she has done extremely well, coping with her diabetes and a punishing schedule.
(the split in the dress was a bit high, though!)

As for Angela Merkel - her clothes lack imagination - she has various trouser suits, all the same cut and style, just in various colours.
Presumably she does not think that clothes are important - although this evening dress was rather daring!

Whoops edit button - it's a shallow fashion thread. I stand by my comments about height and health though.

Iam64 Sat 14-Jul-18 20:36:59

granny buy - models are tall, Melania T is tall. If TM "doesn't walk elegantly". I don't think it's anything to do with her height. As for the use of the word "gangly" as someone who was 5' 8" tall at age 13 and regularly criticised, name called for being 'long tall sally', 'gangly' etc I find it impossible not to speak in defence of tall women, including Theresa May.
I think she usually dresses as well as most of us do. She has a huge task in being PM during such turbulent times. I've never voted for her party and can't imagine I ever will. However, I can't deny, or fail to admire, the way she's keeping calm and keeping on.
She has some kind of back problem, not sure if its spondylitis or whether she, like to many women of her age, has osteoporosis or osteoparthritis. Let's give the woman a break.

Anniebach Sat 14-Jul-18 17:32:46

T May, is slim, has nice legs

grannybuy Sat 14-Jul-18 17:30:09

Theresa May doesn't walk elegantly. I wonder if it's to do with her height. I sometimes think that her skirt/dress length is too short for her height, making her look more 'gangly'.

lemongrove Sat 14-Jul-18 16:19:11

I agree goldengirl about Angela Merkel, she is not stylish but looks business like and comfortable with her clothes.

Panache Sat 14-Jul-18 16:13:34

Maryhoffman.............
I disagree with Panache - I think Theresa May has appalling posture!
Whilst you are more than entitled to your own thoughts I did say and still think and repeat.......” Teresa May is completely different but again has good stature and she holds herself well (in the main)"
The reason I added "in the main",yes I was aware of her slight dowager`s hump and slouch......but as is my wont I chose to be kind to her (and others with the same issue (including myself suffering from spondylitis)
Somethings are beyond our control.

lemongrove Sat 14-Jul-18 15:51:13

I thought so too gillybob in fact, she looked more relaxed than she normally does, amazingly, given the circumstances.

LuckyFour Sat 14-Jul-18 15:42:51

Melania is just following her husband and her job is to look good. TM is trying to run the country as well as trying to do what (some) people want ie come out of EE. Big, big difference!

SueDonim Sat 14-Jul-18 12:49:37

Whatever MF's coat was called, it was inappropriate and is forever connected to him. It isn't just women who are critiqued.

I’ve just caught up with TM’s red dress photos and I think she looked lovely . Much better than she normally does.

Grandma70s Sat 14-Jul-18 12:41:03

pollyperkins, I always admired Shirley Williams, too. A real person who didn’t give a damn about her looks or what anyone thought about them.

Anniebach Sat 14-Jul-18 12:34:56

Michael Foot was not wearing a donkey jacket

SueDonim Sat 14-Jul-18 12:30:45

Luckygirl I thought it was just me who had noticed Melanie's 'butt cheeks'! grin

Men do get criticised for their dress sense, or lack thereof. Michael Foot and his donkey jacket, Ken Clarke of the suede shoes and of course Jeremy Corbyn! Admittedly, it doesn't garner as much publicity as women's fashion but fashion is a massive industry for the U.K. so we need to sell it.

McTavish Sat 14-Jul-18 12:28:38

I think the slouch is more to do with the fact that she is taller than her husband and tries to compensate for it. She never wears very high heels either.

Tweedle24 Sat 14-Jul-18 12:23:00

Like Auntieflo, I wonder if TM has a medical problem. Her posture is that of someone with osteoporosis.
Beside which, is it really that important? Surely, as long as she looks clean and tidy, her job is more important?

maryhoffman37 Sat 14-Jul-18 12:16:57

I disagree with Panache - I think Theresa May has appalling posture! And she is gawky and awkward to a fault. However, I think Melania Trump looks like a doll or mannequin in a shop window, totally plastic. Give me a real woman like Michelle Obama any day.
