M&S - cover up for arms

Browsing today and I notice that M & S have a sort of cover up for arms that you wear with sleeveless dresses. They have black or white and have a lace effect. Thought this was a good idea so have ordered one. The idea is that you would not need a cardi if you wanted to cover up. I do feel self conscious in a sleeveless top. Seemed worth a try.

So what’s the difference to a cardi ??

FlexibleFriend Wed 18-Jul-18 16:36:27

There's loads of lovely kimono tops for a lightweight cover up for arms about.

I think the arm cover that Telly is talking about is designed to be worn underneath a sleeveless dress or top not over .

Similar idea is to wear a light long or 3/4 sleeved tee shirt in white or black. Then anything you like on top. however fancy or revealing.
I have a white one.

For the past few years I have bought M&S t-shirts with almost elbow-length sleeves which hide my bingo wings white satisfactorily. Cotton traders have elbow length tees. I have a very light cotton/silk cardi from Woolovers. Was wearing one on a train with really cold air con on Monday and it was just about warm enough.

Yes this one is basically just lace sleeves so you would wear it with most dresses, especially ones where a t-shirt would not work. Still waiting for it to arrive.

M and S have a range of t- shirts with longer sleeves (just about 2-3 inches above the elbow. They've been doing them for the last couple of years and they are fantastic for covering bingo wings.I have about ten of them in different designs.

Telly, can you tell me what the lace sleeves coverup thing is called, I know what you mean but I cant seem to find it on the M&S web site, many thanks, x

I'm sure a lace balero would do the same job at less than half the price,I bought a couple a few years ago from TKMax to wear with sun dresses of an evening.

Thanks for that granny, I never seen those before, sooo handy. Have just bagged a white one, (I'm sure the 20 % off is due soon so will hang on till then ? )

It's still another layer which is too hot in the weather we've had recently. I've got a couple of lacey cover ups to put on top of sleeveless dresses but have had to give up and just let the flesh hang low grin Might be useful in cooler climes though. I've got a couple of longer sleeved tees in cotton which are really nice but again been too hot to wear them. I'm sure I never used to suffer so much with the heat when I was younger!!

How will younger people know that bingo wings are a natural part of ageing if we keep them covered up?

<runs and hides>

missdeke Sat 11-Aug-18 09:24:16

My thoughts exactly rizlett. I wear what's appropriate in the weather and if someone doesn't like what they see then they have my permission to avert their eyes. grin

Mary Portas designed one of these a few years back. Good idea, but hers was a bit pricy!

Norma4 Sat 11-Aug-18 09:41:50

I bought one of these several months ago and find it useful as I dislike the tops of my arms. It’s not good for very hot weather though as it gives an extra layer.

Thanks Telly for posting about this. I’ve seen some lovely dresses that I would never buy because they’re sleeveless. These might make me reconsider.

jenni123 Sat 11-Aug-18 10:03:02

Muslim wear sells 'sleeves' they are to wear with short sleeved dresses or tops to cover the arms.

MawBroon Sat 11-Aug-18 10:51:31

I think adding lacy sleeves or a bolero top with lace sleeves may be all right in a very few instances, but is not to my taste.
Surely choosing the righttop or dress is more important.
And if sleeveless is really the only option, a wrap or pashmina or even a stole (remember those?) is the way forward.

Solitaire Sat 11-Aug-18 11:31:09

I have very prominent veins on the lower part of my arms...had them since my teens...like Madonna.

I bought lace long sleeved boleros from EBay about £5 each. They came from China, in all colours, are really lovely and so much cheaper than M & S. They are light enough to wear under tops and dresses.

netflixfan Sat 11-Aug-18 12:00:35

I agree! I don't cover my arms unless I'm cold. It's fine for your body to age.

netflixfan Sat 11-Aug-18 12:01:33

I agree with Rizlet

Jane43 Sat 11-Aug-18 12:44:38

Annodomini I love those elbow length M & S Tee shirts too. They were reduced in last year’s sale so I got them in a variety of colours. The Woolovers cardi sounds lovely too as synthetic fabrics make me hot. I will check it out.

hopeful1 Sat 11-Aug-18 14:20:00

Why oh why? I would not waste my money. If it is hot wear less, no one should feel they have to cover up just to please.... who?
