Do you think £35 is a reasonable charge for a hairdresser to come to your home ? I think it's a bit steep , but maybe it's not. They are after all using your electricity , you have to wash your own hair etc. Am I just sounding mean?

What is it they'll be doing to your hair?
If its a wash and blow dry then yes, I think its a bit steep.

Sheena Fri 07-Sept-18 20:11:37

Yes, just a cut and blow dry as I shall wash my hair. I thought it was a bit pricey as she's only down the road from me, but I'm so fed up with trying hairdressers both mobile and salons, and not being happy, I thought I'd give her a try.

Oh well... I'll just have to pay it and hope for the best !!

Seems expensive but depends how good she is.

I had a girl this summer who charged £15 for cut and blowdry at mine (rural Suffolk). I washed it myself just before she arrived. She was OK, but not great on arriving on time, so I'm back to a salon now. I just have a dry cut usually.

Depends on how good she is.

If you are happy with the results then good hair is worth whatever you care to pay for it!!

Following thread for updates!

That seems a little steep but salons vary in price so why shouldn’t mobile hairdressers? Maybe she is an excellent stylist, better than someone who charges £20 perhaps. You’ll soon be able to judge.
I am a beauty therapist and have never been mobile until recently and very reluctantly.
My client base has aged with me and now I have quite a few very elderly ladies. My oldest client is 98. I now have 3 ladies who are unable to get to me so I go to them.
A treatment that takes me half an hour in the salon now takes about one and a half hours including travel and setting up. You do the maths!

Heavens, Sheena, who’ve you got coming round, Mr Teasey Weasey? Are you having colour done, something to ramp up the cost? Seems very expensive to me.

I consider £35 is expensive. Unless you think she is marvellous, I'd find someone else. Up to you, of course.

My mobile haurdressser charges £25 for cut n blow dry and I would give him £30, if I’m having highlights/ lowlights as well it’s £55 and I give him £60. This is half the price of the salon he used to work in which was a very good one. I think that’s a good price and worth washing my own hair making him a cup of tea etc. He,ll also run the clippers over my OHs hair ( not much of it) for £10.

I think it's a little expensive if she's just down the road but being mobile does involve time, fuel and expertise so depends where you are in the country. I pay £40 for a colour and blow dry - she trims it (if I let her) in that too - it would probably be double in a big city.

Gosh, and golly gosh. I used to pay £10.00 to have a dry cut, with a chap coming to the house. Then he put it up to £15.00. One day he forgot to come, New Year and transfer of dates into new diary. I asked around and made an appointment at a local salon, I now pay £11.50 for a dry cut, and am pleased with the results.
(Could do with more hair and a younger face though) grin

Probably the same one I go to Auntieflo as that is what I pay.I loved your comment elsewhere about our regenerated town centre. I don't know where they think all the people are going to come from to use those enormous pavements.???

I go to my hairdresser's house and pay £35 for a colour (I supply it), cut and blow dry.
I thought it was expensive but my daughter assures me it isn't.
I am very happy with how she does BTW (that's a first for me!!) grin

Sounds expensive. I pay similar at a salon where the staff training there is second to none and everything is very up to date. The staff also offer suggestions if asked and are honest in saying whether or not certain styles will suit. This is just what I like. I also enjoy the ambience and the feeling of being pampered. Not sure whether you'd get all this with a mobile hairdresser - but it is a very convenient service that suits a lot of people.

I'm trying a mobile lady for the first time. I hated going to the hairdressers. Lets see!

Sheena Sat 08-Sept-18 12:00:51

Thanks everyone for your comments... much appreciated and I have actually cancelled her.

I'm so daft really, but the warning was there .. when I asked if she could help me she said did I want colour and cut? I said no, just a cut .. well tidy up really , and said I have very fine hair. She said well highlights would be good and help to thicken up fine hair, I said no, just a cut !

Then she told me how much she charges... the £35 and I thought .... yikes ! okaaaaay .. well I suppose I could go with that, but seeing as she's only just down the road from me, so not much travelling for her, and I wash my own hair, and she uses my electricity ..... well you get the gist.

So, I've got cold feet, and cancelled and haven't heard anything back from her. AND still got grotty hair grin
