Loooong jumpers!

Juliet my friend always wore nice, longish jumpers and I asked her where she shopped; she said they were M&S men's jumpers.

GabriellaG you can usually manage to dislodge the item for which you are reaching by using a hanger from a lower item. I've perfected the skill, being 5'1". I don't worry about putting it back up.

I totally agree, MagicWriter. We need more true-to-life models. It's no use being told that the model wearing the item that you like is size 8 and 5.9" tall. I want to know if they make it in a size 16 to fit someone 5'0", and what it will look like on me!

As a small, plus size woman, I get fed up of manufacturers deciding that if you are x size or over, you must be 10’ tall with arms like an ape. The other thing is, if my body is plus size, my arms will be too. Not necessarily longer, but definitely fatter! And it’s the same with their models. I don’t want to see a frock I like, in my size, demonstrated on a young woman who has a perfectly body size. Yes, she may be a size 16+ but if her body is still nice and firm, and everything is in the right proportions, it will look beautiful on her, but when I try it on, oh dear me, is it really the same frock??

I'm 5ft 8 and lately I've bought a couple of M&S men's jumpers - two lengths to choose from - and they're great for covering my behind. They're cotton but still warm and they won't go bobbly as acrylic always does for me. My trouble is, my podgy knees just do not suit leggings and slim trousers. My legs are reasonably slim but I always think it looks as though a couple of steak and kidney puds have been attached to my knees!

Morethan2 - not an especially sympathetic response!! However, I do hope you are out of hospital soon.

Violette. Many shops DO have Petite clothes, but they are often for petite women, not short and chunky. like me. One complaint that I do have is that many clothes are hung up on high rails that we 'shorties' can't reach, even in the Petite department. It's such a pain, having to wait for someone tall to pass by, and request help. Then you can't reach to put the item back, if you don't like it!

It's odd, really, that clothes come in 'width' sizes but not usually in length, apart from trousers.

One of my daughters is 5-10 and I've nevervheard her say that she can't find clothes to fit, whether for social activities or business. I know that she buys from Next. Her clothes always fit well and she has a separate dressing room full of clothes and accessories, so clothes for tall women can't be that hard to find as she lives in rural Wales.

i'm tall and wish i was smaller can never get trousers to fit me or jumpers as sleeves two short or too skinny.

Violette LTS is still around, they have a website and some shops. Must admit I haven’t seen any thing I liked in there for years. Lots of main stream shops like Gap and Next have tall ranges on line but not in their shops. Whereas Petite ranges seem to be everywhere. Or perhaps it just seems like it, she adds bitterly. ?

I'm 5'4" and like to feel comfortable, warm and smart when I'm out for coffee/lunch etc. But, I'm finding it difficult to get tops that fit my requirements - either too thin or too thick. Obviously, I need to do more research and will follow your advice Coolgran!

I’m a ‘shorty’ at 5’2”, but like my jumpers long to keep my bottom warm.
I find that Primark men’s jumpers in small size are perfect, and come in some very nice colours. I have a pink one, a lavender, a teal and a cream, so they don’t look too masculine.

I'm 5'1". Most jumpers are too long in the body - OK if chunky and loose fitting but otherwise they cling over my tummy unless I ruche them up. Sleeves are way too long and they don't always look right if they are turned back.

OOhh I wish I had that problem ...being tall and 'of a generous size' I CANNOT find many decent jumpers with long enough sleeve lengths, or body lengths ....have to buy knitted short dresses !!!! same with trouser and dress lengths ...WISH I could buy one like shorter people do and turn it up ...you can#t turn down sleeves and I HATE those that are just above the wrist !! Its ok I can buy men#s shirts to wear under jumpers (and they are often of a better material and a better price than women#s) I can buy men#s polo necks for arm length, if I want a basic black or grey ........the list goes on ....WHEN are manufacturers going to make clothes for tall people (does Long Tall Sally shop still exist ?)

I prefer 3/4 sleeves on jumpers otherwise I am pushing them up all the time. Most of my everyday jumpers are just from supermarkets, they are long enough to cover my bottom and I am in excess of 5' 6"

I am 5ft 2ins, it seems to be a popular height.I dont like long jumpers,I would look ridiculous in one. Sleeves on anything are always far too long, obviously I am not alone.

Knit one yourself, then you get exactly the size you want.

Covering my arse certainly doesn't make me look dumpy. If you feel good then you look good. I don't feel good with an exposed bottom ?

Well thank you for your insight GabriellaG - how kind of you to let those of us who like to keep the less than petite derriere under wraps know that we look even dumpier than normal! Ladies, we've been kidding ourselves to think that by covering up the bum we'll look a little more soignee and put-together instead of (in my case anyway) cut in half across the middle.

IMO, covering your bottom in order to hide it, does nothing to make it appear smaller, you just look more dumpy.

Maybe you ummm ladies who are closer to the ground could send the offcuts from your jumpers to us taller types who also want to keep warm

Think I must have short arms asI always end up turning the cuffs over which looks a bit scruffy. I like the 3/4 length sleeves, and a jumper long enough to cover my backside.

Look in a retailers menswear small size section.I have found many styles of knitwear that have suited my needs. Sales time is the best clearly not many small size men around. Love their brightly patterned shirts.. Much cheaper than women's.
