Would you wear dungarees?

I went into the Gap Outlet store near me today, they had mid blue denim dungarees at 50% off- so around £25. I tried them on and loved them - really comfy - great for gardening and general chores I thought, I pictured myself wearing them with a breton t shirt and white pumps. I ended up not buying them as I was unsure whether they were appropriate - I'm slim and fairly tall btw, so not a tweedledum look, - question is - can a gran wear denim dungarees or are they only suitable for toddlers?

Go for it. If they fit and look good, age doesn’t matter.

Suzied, you sound like a lovely fashionable lady. Wear your dungarees with pride. Some people, at any age, can wear a sack and look elegant. I still like to look fashionable, without looking over the top for my age. Hate to look dowdy.

The fact they were in the sale shoukd tell you something- even the younger folk don't want them. When it come to clothes always remember my mother's mantra, a sale is all the stuff folk don't want!

No.

I wear jumpsuits and have one in khaki and one in navy/white.
I'd wear dungarees if I was messing about on boats or camping but socially?...no.
It would IMO, look hickey. A bit like 'The Waltons'.

Not for me, but I'm 5'3 and round in the tummy area. I would look like Charlie Drake.

I have two pairs of heavy cotton dungarees bought online from NewChic I think it was. They are baggy and so roll them up a bit at the ankles. I wear a loose open shirt o we them. I am nearly 68. I say go for it and enjoy the comfort occasionally when doing boat chores.

O yes , I bought a pair of black dungarees last week . I love them , there so comfortable . If you like them and you feel comfortable in them , buy them . Go girl .

Looking at the Daily Mail article, I'd say a definite & loud 'no', I think the models look really silly!! I confess to having a black & white stripey pair & a beige linen pair in the 70s when of course I looked the bee's knees ! & several cord pairs for my 80s pregnancies when I looked like an elephant. I think they're best worn by the young & fabulous really!

Alina ... I’m with you, too many loo visits ! However a friend aged 67 still wears them and other quirky outfits and looks great in them !

jenwren Sun 24-Feb-19 09:46:22

Go for it, my friend who is her 60s and very arty(she teaches art privately) wears them and the first time I saw her in them I just thought WOW and told her so, she remarked 'Sainsbury's in the sale' She Inspires me to be a bit more adventurous.

I could not risk it with my bladder!

Magrithea Sun 24-Feb-19 09:42:35

It all depends! The last time I wore dungarees was when I was 6 months+ pregnant - a seersucker pair borrowed from a friend - 34 years ago! I think they're not very flattering except on small children - DGS loves his that Daddy brought back from the US

No, definitely not - when I need to pee, I need to pee RIGHT then!!!

NotSpaghetti Sun 24-Feb-19 09:37:55

could pretend I'm a bohemian artist type
grin
Absolutely! Go for it!
Wish I was slim enough to wear them!

maryhoffman37 Sun 24-Feb-19 09:36:31

Certainly buy and wear them if you like them. I wouldn't but then I've never worn jeans either and nor has my husband.

wellingtonpie Sun 24-Feb-19 09:34:27

Yes definitely. X

Patticake123 Sun 24-Feb-19 09:26:11

If I was tall and slim I’d wear them. Unfortunately I’m not!

NotAGran55 Sun 24-Feb-19 08:30:24

I wouldn’t wear them because I’m short , hourglass shaped with a 32G frontage and would look ridiculous .

However , if I was tall and slim I most definitely would wear them .

Suzied please tell us that you have bought them smile or are going to ...

CanadianGran Sun 24-Feb-19 06:19:45

Go for it! I saw a photo of Emma Thompson in overalls (we call them that in Canada) and she looked great!
Wear what makes you happy and you will look confident.

Dungaree wearing only permitted if you have never even heard of ‘Come On Eileen’ ( ie. you are young) ?
