I haven’t noticed any mention of selling on eBay on this thread. It certainly eases the pain of having to part with the virtually new, more expensive, no longer fit clothes.

I got my sandals down from the loft today -28 pairs! I put as many pairs of boots back up there.
I got my t shirts out, there must be 50-60 I guess. Same number of jumpers, if not more.
I also sorted out my handbags and found 44 to sort through and decide which to keep.
Tomorrow, I want to sort my makeup out, I hardly dare!
What can I do, I’m not proud of it, I just love shopping.

Gosh! I only have two pairs of boots, a pair of black Court shoes, one pair of summer sandals and a pair of “posh” shoes for nice meals out etc. I own 3 handbags (for different occasions) and a small capsule wardrobe!?
Hm. The OP doesn't sound ashamed.
Watch Stacey Dooleys “ Fashions Dirty Secret” and see the pollution caused by dyes and chemicals in the rivers around the clothing factories. It was a wake up call for me and I’ve stopped buying unnecessarily and taken bags and bags of “ stuff” to the Charity shops ??????
Haha, I’m guilty of buying shoes and bras, but I only wear 4 pairs of shoes at the most and 6 bras. I moved 3 years ago and have far less space, so got rid of a lot of my clothes on eBay. Have lost 3st since moving and sold all my fat clothes, too, so have more wardrobe space than ever before.
Luckylegs, are we related?
My husband despairs of my clothes haul but I do need, for example:
Black trousers, winter-weight long-length, to wear with heels. Black trousers, winter-weight medium-length, to wear with flats. Black trousers very smart, long and short.
Black trousers, summer-weight (cotton) long and medium.
Black trousers, light linen long and medium.
That's ten pairs which, when written down, does seem excessive, even to me but apart from rolling up hems, a la cowgirl-style (which looks ridiculous at my age) all ten are needed. I won't go into detail about the additional black trousers for 'choice'.........
I do admire those who have a capsule wardrobe but we are all different and by now, I guess our shopping habits are hard to break, whichever they are!
Ll, if this gives you pleasure, causes you no financial hardship and you can stand the clutter, why not? It certainly wouldn't do for me. I'm a boring minimalist. I suspect your need to mention it here suggests it might be something of a niggle to you. However, well done with your consistent tidying of the items.
I daren't count the pairs of shoes I have - and the ones I have never worn !
A few years ago, one of our nearby towns, renowned for shoes , had several factory shops - I rarely left with just one pair! When they closed, my treat , when we used to go to Cardiff was to visit the designer outlet shopping centre near Bridgend - and usually come out with several pairs of shoes from there, but glad to say they were usually for work so have been worn.
Good thing is that now I am unemployed, I at least have comfortable shoes to wear even though I can't afford to buy new!
Everyone has their quirks
Have to say I love handbags as well
I did try to have a no clothes shopping for 2019 but failed at week 5 or 6. Though I havnt bought much at all.
Also trying the one in and one out
Good luck with your culling
Master class from Stella1949 please. I am in the process of decluttering my wardrobe at the moment. Baby steps. One big bag for those to throw out and another big bag for charity. I have gone down one side and now a quarter up the other side (which I might add is my husbands side!!) Opps! Slowly getting there. Big bag for recycle and half of one to throw out. Still can't dispose of a cracking suit I bought 30 years ago, it is still stylish but two sizes too small. It is beautiful, cost a bomb and still brings me happiness just to look at it. That suit will stay. Does anyone else have that something so gorgeous in their wardrobe that they just can't part with?
GG Lighten up - this is a light hearted thread.
Perhaps I can add to your ire by telling you another thing I have an excess of is underwear - well in excess of 50 pairs of knickers (perhaps I should seek therapy!)
I can't bear shopping so I'll never be in that situation, but well done for finding enough things that you like, or that fit you!
I have two full size wardrobes and two large suitcases in the loft with summer/holiday clothes/shoes/sandals.
During these colder months I keep 3/4 pairs of boots and 2 pairs of shoes in my wardrobe along with my furry slippers, come summer Ihave a repack and swap everything around sending stuff I have fallen out with to the charity shops.
Up to now this year I bought 2 x new jeans and 4 cotton tops ready for spring time thats the most I think I will buy this year.
I have always thought I was strange because shoes are simply a necessity for me - don't have a huge number. However, when out shopping with friends they know to keep me away from handbags! I couldn't tell you how many I have
. The strange thing is that I only use 2 or 3.
Ridiculous overbuying. What can you do?
That would be telling.
I think you enjoy the thought of our raised eyebrows.
It's only sad people who 'have' to disclose a habit they purport to want advice on stopping when they have no intention of doing that very thing.
I want a master class please stella1949
Seriously. Do the 20 items include outdoor wear?
Like mumofmadboys I have different clothes for the garden, dirty work, walking, freezing, warmer, going out, funerals, parties, yoga etc.
There's always something in the wash!
Being a plus sized short legged pear shape, I would quiet like to have a "see it, buy it" habit. Sadly I'm governed by "does it come in my size and will it suit me"
I'm with you MOnica. I can go a year without buying anything. I have ample for my needs.
The only exception is swimsuits. I usually buy 3 a year, as I swim a lot, and the chlorine in the water tends to rot them after a couple of months.
Who on earth needs 50 t-shirts and 44 handbags?
I haven’t 20 items of clothing, unless I add knickers and socks
I am absolutely with Stella. When I read the OP, my body was tensing and I was feeling quite ill at the thought of having so many clothes. If I had that many clothes I would spend every day in my pyjamas trying to work out what to wear.
I buy the clothes I need when I need them and rapidly dispose of anything I no longer wear to charity shop.
I can get all my clothes, except possibly the coats, into a 5 foot Victorian wardrobe and one chest of drawers.
Why waste money on clothes you hardly wear and do not need when there is so much else you can do with your money?
20 garments is impressive Stella. Does this include trousers/ jeans, dresses, skirts, blouses and jumpers/ fleeces/ sweatshirts ? I try hard not to buy things I don't need but struggle to get rid of stuff and keep things for gardening/ walking and have too much scruffy stuff!
I like the French saying "no woman needs more than 12 garments". I don't exactly stick to that number, but I certainly wouldn't have more than 20 garments in my wardrobe, ever. I stick to classics and use accessories to change the look.
I've seen huge walk-in robes , bulging with clothes, in many friend's homes, and I really don't understand it. Less is more in my mind.
That does sound like too much. Speaking from experience shopping can be an obsession. It just takes a bit of willpower to cut down. Find another hobby to enjoy?
My house is tiny, very little storage space and only room for 1 wardrobe. Since I've lived here I've had to ask myself the following questions when I go out shopping: "Do I need it?" "Have I got room for it?". "What will you get rid of to make room for it?" As a result, I shop differently.
But I'm due to move to a bigger house shortly.......
Shopping is our national obsession.
Retail therapy. I wish it wasn't and I try to buy from charity shops.
I gave about 10 garments to charity this week. One had only been worn once. I didn't like myself in it.
Shoes I either wear to death or don't ever wear. No half measures. We had a moth infestation last year so sadly a lot of woollies were ditched.
50 T-shirts is a bit excessive.
