I just don't like the current trend for beards or designer stubble on men of all ages. Unless very neatly clipped I find them ageing, scruffy and unclean-looking - even on George Clooney! What are your views?

Men have to suit designer stubble or they look like Yasser Arafat ! grin Sadly, most men just look scruffy.

All my men: husband, sons and a few boyfriends have had neat beards, so obviously I like male facial hair - but it must be neatly trimmed.

I don't particularly like the Middle Easter Cleric look with bushy beards going as far as the chest.

Our ukulele teacher has a white beard and hair, both about a yard long. Wish I could post a picture smile

I hate any bodily hair on men, especially the arm pits. It’s vile.

Hate beards.

I like well kept beards. About 30 years ago I persuaded DH to grow one but it would not grow properly - it lasted about 3 months. Moustache which did grow well lasted about 10 years. One morning he came downstairs and it was gone. DD aged about 7 burst into tears. Some people suit beards and some do not.

I like well kept beards but do find them ageing on most men, even gorgeous George Clooney.
Also find kissing a bearded man gives me a sore face ?

Not really unless it's Ross Poldark.

Designer stubble just seems to say 'I can't be bothered to shave' and looks awful on older men. A well groomed beard can look good but I prefer men to be clean shaven.

I think that the hipsters with their full sometimes outrageous beards will regret them in years to come, because they will have missed out on their youthful faces.I do say this to my beautiful Portuguese hairdresser.

I think it depends on the face that goes with it. I can't imagine Noel Edmonds without his beard, likewise Rick Edwards looks very handsome.
Long ZZ Top like beards - not so keen.

Yuk

Love facial hair and chest hair, as long as all is clean and groomed. Dh had a moustache that is now silver and groomed to perfection. Never known him without it.

Ashcomb. your husband looks lovely too, and kittylesters/ You've all got such handsome hubbies! And ladies, as you have all included your photos, it is interesting to see what you look like.

My DSil often has 'designer stubble', and I must say it suits him. He was clean shaven for his wedding to DD though. DH and I once holidayed on a remote island for a few days and he didn't bother shaving; I couldn't wait to get back to civilisation so that he could shave it off; I didn't like it at all!

Humbertbear Tue 09-Apr-19 14:55:40

My husband has had a beard for forty years . He had to shave it off when having an operation and I couldn’t wait for him to regrow it. Without the beard he looks like his mother.

Love beards and hairy chests are lovely to snuggle up to, it is all silky at least you know you are with a man. Can anyone tell me why did shaving start, I read somewhere about Roman soldiers. As I am exNavy it was just something you accepted a handsome full set, you ladies that dislike them are you unconsciously making them boys?

My dad grew a beard as soon as he retired.
He and mum enjoyed their retirement and travelled abroad quite a bit.
On one trip they somehow ended up with each other's passports.
Some customs officer with a wry sense of humour commented to my mum "I see you've shaved off your beard then". Brilliant.

I don't care over much for beards or long hair on a man but there are exceptions to that rule. E.g. Jason Momoa - big, hairy and very, very hot!

Disgruntled Tue 09-Apr-19 14:30:13

Yes I love beards! Your husband looks very handsome, Teetime and I LOVE your dog. :-)

trendygran Tue 09-Apr-19 14:28:23

I can just about cope with a man’s beard if it is neat and trimmed but I hate bushy beards altogether. A few men I know or know of, look several years older with a beard and are mostly better looking without them ,in my opinion.

quizqueen Tue 09-Apr-19 14:21:41

I dislike facial hair and excess body hair and stubble especially- it brings me out in a rash so won't go near it. It's like kissing sand paper!

Rosina Tue 09-Apr-19 13:46:43

teetime your husband looks really good with that beard - and I think the dog is most appealing too!
My son has grown a neat well trimmed beard and it suits him. However, I shudder at the 'Old Testament prophet' type of beard - they look revolting and I always fear bits of food might drop out. Ugh.

Annaram1 Tue 09-Apr-19 13:31:36

Personally I like men with beards, and when I was only 20 my first fiancé had a beard and I loved kissing him.... Haven't seen him since we broke up, but if still alive his beard would be grey now. Teetime, watch out for your lovely husband!!!
He'd give George Clooney a run for his money!
But I do not like hairy chests or backs one bit.

seadragon Tue 09-Apr-19 13:21:13

I like a furry man myself - moustache especially, though, as the beard era coincided with a short period of pipe smoking...

Brigidsdaughter Tue 09-Apr-19 13:07:06

I love a good, well groomed, beard. DH and DS both have beards. It's essential to have good enough hair growth or they look pathetic.
