I always remember a bottle of Youth Dew on my sisters dressing table, plus my brother used Aramis. My dad used Old Spice. grin
As a teenager I used Charlie & Cachet - I even remember the magazine adverts for those!
But I look back most fondly on the little pots of cream perfume from Avon. I think I had every one.

What did you wear in your youth?

Oh crikey smitty.
Now that takes me back grin

every Christmas, when I was small, my mother gave me a tiny bottle of Phul Nana from Woolworths. I adored it. Such a happymemory.

Aqua Manda - whatever happened to it? It was a chain store essence and despite being cheapo (and therefore affordable when I was a teenager) it had a memorable orangey tang that wasn't acrid and overpowering.

Pure 1960's. Lovely.

How about “Smitty’!!

Aepgirl Wed 10-Apr-19 10:39:52

Evening in Paris. We thought it was so sophisticated back then.

Anyone remember white Linen?
It’s fairly old but still very much around.
I wore that in my 30’s.

Does anyone remember Midnight by Dorothy Gray? I loved that in my teens.

Later years preferred anais anais. my nan loved 4711 eau de cologne

Suede, Pagan and Le Train Bleu by Picot, came in tiny bottles but was powerful perfume. My boyfriend and his parents used to buy me Chanel No5. In the 60s DH used to be buy me a perfume that came in a pale blue box and had a wonderful powdery smell and sadly can't remember the name.

Sara65 Wed 10-Apr-19 10:20:15

My best friend loved Kiku, she thought she was more sophisticated than me and my Aqua Manda! We used to pour it on!

Megs36 Wed 10-Apr-19 10:19:56

Norman Hartnells In love, thankyou Witzend! I have been trying to trace this for years, had a friend who always used it, you could follow her from room to room by the lovely smell; she sadly died over 30 years ago so I guess this perfume is long gone too.

anti Wed 10-Apr-19 10:14:42

Meant to type Kiku!

anti Wed 10-Apr-19 10:13:49

Yes , Kiki was my favourite too, wish I could find it!

mazgoli Wed 10-Apr-19 10:09:20

Blase' was my absolute favourite, I think we all wore it at the youth club I went to - felt very sophisticated. Also Charlie Blue and occasionally Tweed. Those were the days!

Sara65 Wed 10-Apr-19 10:06:18

Been watching you all for a while, but this subject took me back 50 years! Aqua Manda! Loved it, thought I was so cool!

I’ve always worn Givenchy perfume usually Amarige
I love it & it’s always been my trademark with the family
My Grandkids always say I smell like Grandma !!!

sazz1 Wed 10-Apr-19 10:01:41

I wore one called Styx. Haven't seen it for many years now

My one and only love is Diorissimo. When I was 16 and we had a school dance a friend brought a bottle in, a gift to her mother, which she did not like, neither did my friend, so this tiny bottle became mine. It smells of lily of the valley.

I have had it on my dressing table ever since, however, a Christian Dior perfume is not for every day. I remember my mother wearing Elizabeth Arden, Blue Grass and Je reviens and my other scent from from long ago is 4711.

I still wear Blue Grass, and 4711 on occasion.

Liked back then and still like, Coty L`aimant, and Vanderbilt. When I was 16 I loved Norman Hartnell`s In Love, then a few years later I was introduced to Faberge`s Flambeau, I loved it, but it was discontinued. I now like Tocade, by Rocher.

Avon Occur, in a gold and black bottle, was popular for many years. I remember that Here's My Heart was in a little blue pot with a white frilly lid. Elusive was in a pink opaque bottle. Brocade was in a brown bottle and Wishing and Somewhere were in clear bottles.

There's a collectors club of vintage Avon perfume bottles now. My Avon lady, from the 1970s, always collected them must be worth a fortune now.

I remember my Mum having 4711 as a gift she refused to wear but occasionally put a few drops in her bath! Her preference was Rive Gauche...but tried Emeraud for a while.

She also had a tiny bottle of California Poppy but again, wouldn't wear it. I was allowed a dab now and then when I was little...and felt very posh. smile

When I was an Avon lady I liked Topaz.

My sons bought me Charlie (Blue) one year for Christmas and I've worn it ever since, just for every-day, as it's light and flowery.

Anything with musk doesn't suit my skin so my favourite perfume, never without it, is Gucci 'Rush'.

But the one which takes me back with so many happy memories is Old Spice.

My husband wore it when we were courting and never really liked any other after-shave throughout our marriage. So for me, it's very sexy.

Mmmm, I can smell it now grin

Avon perfumes were popular in our house, I remember Elegance, Bird of Paradise, Here's my heart and Pretty Peach (for little girls) to name a few.

I remember Denim was popular with my brother and dad always got a bottle of Old Spice for Christmas
