I want to cut down the plastic bottles in my bathroom and try finding some organic products shower soap, shampoos etc but there is so much choice I’m looking for recommendations. Something moisturising, that has a nice but natural smell that doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg would be good.
So ladies what do you use?

That sounds like a great plan! For moisturizing organic products, consider Dr. Bronner's Pure-Castile Liquid Soap for its versatility and natural scents. Alba Botanica Hawaiian Shampoo and Conditioner offer great hydration with a tropical aroma. SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Shower Gel is also fantastic for moisture and has a delightful scent. Try Alaffia Everyday Coconut Body Wash for gentle hydration, and Acure Organics Shampoo and Conditioner for effective, natural formulations. These options are budget-friendly and perfect for a sustainable routine!

Pamlajj Here's a link to info on Dr Bronner's palm oil source:

I hope it's as ethical as it sounds! smile

I've just ordered some more vegan soap from thepureplanet company.com - their Mediterranean soap is lovely as well as looking very exotic. I see they now also stock Lyonsleaf so I am happily using both.

I use the Green company and love their face cream and tinted moisteriser. My DiL swears by them and uses all their products on her children.

I too make my own. I started last year as Christmas gifts. My goddaughter loves the smell of violets and was thrilled with violet perfumed purple soap.
I made eucalyptus for my godson thinking it was more 'manly' but he preferred the lavender which I made for everyone else.
There are some lovely moulds as well. My goddaughter's daughter got fairies on hers.

Why don’t you try making your own soap? I’ve just made my first batch. You can control what goes into it. There are plenty of videos on uTube and soap making websites. Also, it’s good fun.

So many of the companies who started out with decent ethics and plans for a more environmentally friendly product have been gobbled up by the big operations. Body Shop is L'Oréal as I believe Aveda is. Also Liz Earle is now in the hands of a big company.

Squiffy is the palm oil in your recommended product from a sustainable source?
Unfortunately these days buying anything to be totally PC is so difficult.

I’ve now ordered a shampoo and body soap bar from the friendly soap company to try I’m not sure the shampoo thing is going to work though but at least I’ll give it a try. I intend on replacing my bottles as each one wears out I’ve yet to find a moisturiser that doesn’t come in a plastic bottle.

Thanks LizaJane I like their website a lot thanks for that.

I was sad going into body shop a while ago. They no longer do refills on their plastic bottles of products. Anita Roddick’s recycling dream, and she had it long before anyone else, is gone.

Try the friendly soap company. They do soap for hair, face and body and come in recyclable packaging. Reasonable prices too

How about making your own. I’ve just started making bath bombs and soap. Lots of stuff available on Amazon. At least you’ll know what’s in it

Thank you all for all the great recommendations I’m going to look at them all.
Do the shampoo bars work just like liquid? I mean leave hair squeaky clean?

Lush always seem to make over-perfumed items. Going past one of their shops is enough to give me a headache!

HildaW Fri 24-May-19 14:56:15

oops its Herbfarmacy.....they are very particular about not being a Pharmacy.

HildaW Fri 24-May-19 14:54:29

Another Neal's yard fan here....also the Dr Organics range in Holland and Barrett are quite good.
Also there is a lovely small company called Herb Pharmacy that makes small batches of very mild but effective potions.

Craftycat, I am also a Tropic user, absolutely love the products. They are pricey but a little seems to go a long way

boheminan Fri 24-May-19 14:04:44

I use Pure Collection (there's two little dots above the 'u' in Pure, but I can't do them on my laptop!). It's a relatively new small company, passionate about producing certified organic products. Aligned with the Soil Association, no animal testing, all the 'good things' certified. Comes in little golden metalic/black containers with pipettes, all re-cyclable. Quite expensive, but a little goes a long way.

sorry off topic but I had to say, as I was reading all your replies I saw and did a double take when I read the name dancingnana1 , double take as I read it as dancing anal

pob Fri 24-May-19 13:15:52

I totally agree with Craftycat about Tropic products. They are a bit pricey but well worth it if you can afford it. My skin and hair have never been better.

Gingergirl Fri 24-May-19 12:40:20

A great post Tanith! I’m going to look at the links above and try to change a product a month. They are more expensive but I’m so sick of plastic...pesticides...animal testing...and all the other rubbish going on in the world. I’ve just been planting in the garden and am wondering about all the plastic containers, I rather shortsightedly, bought the plants in. It so depresses me.With the knowledge we now have, we really do need to start changing our ways I think. There is no excuse if we want a half decent world for our grandchildren and their children to come.

MysticalUnicorn Fri 24-May-19 12:30:19

Weleda, totally natural products, minimal plastic and recyclable, ethical, fabulous products. Their Skin Food is the best product ever made.
