What do YOU wear?

Do you dare to bare but only in summer?
Do you fake it or go for the milk-bottle look?
Stockings, hold-ups or tights for those 'important' occasions or are you a pop-sock siren?

Gonegirl - I've had two pairs of thick socks on and knee length boots today. And the stove is lit, and I'm sat opposite it! Also a thick long woolly jumper with a big polo neck. Jeans.

Otherwise if it was warm I would have shorts and tee shirt.

Always walking boots or wellies on, as I am usually stuck in the middle of a muddy field with a whistle in my mouth.

I just don't care anymore do I ?

I think there is a bottle of ancient fake tan somewhere, probably dried up by now.

I last wore tights to my nieces wedding last August, they were thick black with boots and a long dress.

I do like a nice 'scent' though!

Greciangirl Tue 11-Jun-19 18:02:04

It has to be hot before I dare to bare my legs and arms.

I always manage to get my top half tanned naturally, but legs need a bit of faking.

Couldn’t abide being trussed up in trousers, tights or socks in summer, skin needs to breath in hot weather.

Today wearing cotton trousers and three quarter sleeve thin top. Bare feet and espadrilles. I’ve been in work today and school rules are no open sandals in summer so they are the next coolest thing . In summer I wear a mix of trousers or skirts and dresses, bare legs and sandals. Shorts in the garden and on hols but think I’m too old to wear them to town.In winter trousers and socks or dresses and opaque tights. Hate layers and love the summer to wear as little as possible. Always like some perfume and jewellery or a scarf

Flippers and snorkel

Skinnylizzie Tue 11-Jun-19 17:24:45

Looked like a clip is a good old northern expression I’ve not heard in a while! My granny used to say that!! smile

Gonegirl Tue 11-Jun-19 17:19:06

I'll raise you on that Callistemon. I've got thermal socks on.

Grammaretto Tue 11-Jun-19 17:14:46

In my youth I was on the beach at the Med and felt incredibly selfconsious. Everyone was staring at me. I realised my milk white skin was a novelty back then.
My friends went to Papua New guinea to work for a few years with their blue eyed, fair haired children. Local children kept touching the white skin!

OurKid1 Tue 11-Jun-19 16:55:54

Given the weather today (bloomin' freezin'), leg warmers over tights would be perfect!

MawBroonsback Tue 11-Jun-19 16:50:32

Well we are all different BrandyButter and maybe just as well!
I can’t imagine why anybody should be interested in my choice of leg apparel and nothing that anybody else does is necessarily going to make me rethink what I choose to wear. After 70 years, I like to think I am probably capable of my own choices! ? ?

BrandyButter Tue 11-Jun-19 15:11:15

To MawBroonsback (who cares??) I think care is a bit of a strong description to this subject but I AM interested in what other people do in life. It doesn't necessarily affect me or change what I do personally but I might get tips on things to improve my life I wouldn't otherwise have thought of.
Never ever pop socks. I used to wear them years ago with long skirts as they passed for tights but the the skirt rode up and a guy sat opposite me said he had fancied me until he saw them and it was the biggest turn-off he had ever seen!!
Bare legs in summer with fake tan. Thick black tights in winter and stockings for 'going out'. Tights always seem to sag in the middle no matter what length I buy and I don't trust hold-ups. Stockings always make me feel sexy even if nobody else knows I am wearing them smile

Barmeyoldbat Tue 11-Jun-19 14:45:48

I tan very easily, a day of sun and wind will do it so as my legs are still ok to show. As I cycle and on on warmer days will knee length shorts my legs are usually quite brown. I never wear tights except in the winter or colder months when I wear black or blue thick ones with an above the knee dress.

Callistemon Tue 11-Jun-19 14:44:18

I think that by the time the sun comes out again my feet and ankles will have faded back to pale.

It's 9C here today and I am wearing socks.

gillyknits Tue 11-Jun-19 14:30:56

No bare legs for me, don’t want to frighten the horses! (My Mother’s saying for things that shock) My legs are awful. Scars and discoloured from bruising. I have extremely thin skin. So it’s trousers for me most of the time. This year I have actually bought two maxi skirts, so only feet and ankles on show. I always paint my toenails and put pretty stickers on them. They detract attention away from my legs! ?

Saggi Tue 11-Jun-19 14:27:32

If I must wear something on legs it will be black or navy opaque tights. Otherwise always bare legged.... always.

Purplepoppies Tue 11-Jun-19 13:10:06

I rarely show my legs. When I do I use a gradual tan moisturiser (Dove). I do wear hold ups (but never use moisturiser on the day because they slide down ?). I don't wear tights.
I have lichen sclerosis. It would irritate it too much ?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Tue 11-Jun-19 12:53:34

When it's very hot I wear my home-made sleeveless dresses which IMHO are comfortable and fairly chic. I wear those little sockettes inside my shoes as I cannot go barefooted. If they can be seen I don't care.
My legs are pale and I don't give a tinker's cuss about other people's opinions of them. If any comments are made (and few people are rude enough to do so out loud) my reply is, "So what?"

eebeew Tue 11-Jun-19 12:25:23

Meant to add I do not bother with tanning I just go fo the “milk bottle” look.

Craftycat Tue 11-Jun-19 12:22:58

At the first ray of sunshine off come my clothes! Well in the garden anyway- it is not overlooked except by the gliders from nearby aerodrome - but they are too high to worry about.
I love the sun & I love a tan. I do tan easily so I don't have to worry too much but I do fake it for the first week or so in May/ early June..
Off to Greece soon & I will be on the beach from early morning until late afternoon (I do wear swimwear there)- in shade for hottest couple of hours of the day- or in the sea. I read a book a day!
Can't wait.
I never wear tights in winter- tend to live in jeans- sometimes stockings on a night out.

eebeew Tue 11-Jun-19 12:20:17

Well you all sound much younger and more glamorous than me! I dispensed with tights years ago as they just always slip down and hobble me and I wear either socks or knee highs with trousers. Also gave up dying my hair and shaving under my arms as I never wear the type of sleeves that show my arm pits. No longer need any shaves under my swimsuits, nature has taken care of that but is tending to redistribute them on my chin. I do get rid of those!
I did however have filler to stop my mouth turning down at the corners. I’m 73.

Callistemon Tue 11-Jun-19 12:01:01

I have 'zebra legs' at the moment as my feet and ankles are tanned and the rest is not.

Must hunt out the Dove slow tanning moisturiser.

Dee1012 Tue 11-Jun-19 11:58:56

Afraid that as my legs are scarred quite badly and I'm SO self-conscious....I live in trousers!!
My nod' to any sun is linen wink

Laurely Tue 11-Jun-19 11:54:38

I dress to take attention away from my legs and feet, while giving them what they need following surgery. I nearly always wear trousers. Today I am wearing maroon jeans (Viyella - I so miss that brand, and CC), an old long-sleeved M&S t-shirt in bottle green, and a Seasalt cotton sweater with green and pinky-red stripes; support stockings (knee-high, from Sup-Care) that don't shriek 'compression hosiery', orthotic inserts and navy leather Hotter 'Dew' lace-ups. A silver rat-tail chain necklace and small silver and turquoise button earrings. Oh, and matching underwear M&S, bright blue-green, Everything is two or three years old, possibly older. Well, the OP did ask!

GrannyGravy13 Tue 11-Jun-19 11:21:07

Theoddbird. Sounds "absolutely fabulous" After my morning shower whatever I am wearing/doing I always put on cologne/perfume (I am a "slavish" Jo Malone girl)

Theoddbird Tue 11-Jun-19 11:12:50

Sat here in my baggy heavy cotton dungeries but wearing Chanal No 5. I have just altered the gorgeous linen dress I will wear to son's wedding next week...rather a bohemian outfit and very summery...white with pink grey and cream flowers. White linen coat. I will wear hold ups and, of course, Chanel No 5

annep1 Tue 11-Jun-19 11:09:06

Grannygravy so many people own up to feeling like this. So when we are with others perhaps they are too focused on themselves to think about how we are feeling. Just a thought. It makes me feel better too to realise it's not unusual to be like this.
However I do feel better when I'm nicely dressed. It helps confidence. I think this goes back to my childhood when I was usually very poorly dressed and hated it especially as my best friend an only child with a dressmaker mother was the exact opposite..
