What do YOU wear?

Do you dare to bare but only in summer?
Do you fake it or go for the milk-bottle look?
Stockings, hold-ups or tights for those 'important' occasions or are you a pop-sock siren?

Today, as most days, I am wearing jeans with white trainers, T shirt and cardigan.
I'm a trousers and jeans type person so don't bother about a tan most of the time, although if I'm going on a special evening I'll have a salon spray tan, ditto when going abroad as I hate being white when I go to the beach.

Most of the summer, denim crops or skirt, or cheerful cotton skirts. So fake tan until the sun does the business - if it ever does. Always have pedicure in summer, so sandals never a problem.

gillybob Confession time..........I have been known to "splash the cash" on an item of clothing believing it will make me look confident and sophisticated, but on the inside I still have feelings of inadequacy.

I often repeat to myself that "they" (obviously not close friends or family) have no idea how I feel on the inside and can "brazen it out" outwardly whilst quivering like a nervous wreck on the inside.

Jeans or robell summerweight full length or short. Shorts in the garden I use Boots no 7 moisturising tan lotion on arms leg and face. And hope for the chance to wear one of my nice dresses at a special occasion (with thin tights). I might buy some casual dresses this year and wear as a change from trousers. Tops - according to weather.
The thing that really annoys me is I buy new clothes but nowadays I don't get out so often so many things are rarely worn. But I don't want to keep wearing the same things.

gillybob Tue 11-Jun-19 09:55:30

Thanks for that Willow I assumed everyone said it !

I think maybe looking like “a clip” is pretty much the same as looking like “a bag of slack” grin

Willow500 Tue 11-Jun-19 09:47:16

Gillybob my mum used to say she/he looks like a clip - from Darlington so it must be a northern term - I still say it grin

Today I have vest, jumper, thick cardigan, jeans and thick socks on - not well and it's pouring down here so in need of warmth.

I don't wear tights in summer so fake tan, maxi dress, jeans or wide palazzo trousers. On the very rare occasions I do go out it might be a jump suit or dressier trousers.

gillybob Tue 11-Jun-19 09:44:07

I could wear the most expensive designer outfit and still look like a “bag of slack” . I always feel self conscious in a dress ( feel as though everyone is laughing at me ) . Fortunately ??? I rarely go out so don’t need to dress up very often .

Some people manage to look stylish no matter what they wear don’t they? Probably a lot to do with confidence .

Teetime Tue 11-Jun-19 09:40:12

I have terrible circulation so my legs look like corned beef- if I put fake tan on they look like corned beef that's had fake tan applied. I juts use the Dove moisturiser that has a bit of fake tan in it. Too cold yet to take my jeans off.

MawBroonsback Tue 11-Jun-19 09:39:39

I find this type of question either intrusive or lacking confidence in one’s own dress choices.
<whisper> Who (dare I say it) cares?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 11-Jun-19 09:24:53

GabriellaG54 ??

I am extremely fortunate that we get a early sun holiday most years, and normally manage to squeeze in a couple over the summer (avoiding school holidays) so my legs are tanned all year round.

The minute the suns out my sun lounger is out, never have my face in the sun intentionally though.

I just feel more “dressed” if going to a formal “event” wedding, dinner or even funeral (which seem to be occurring frequently at the moment) in the UK with my legs covered.

Davida1968 Tue 11-Jun-19 08:52:42

Either bare legs (but rarely - it needs proper warm weather for my lower limbs to emerge in a skirt or capris) or trousers. Either a light natural tan (via factor 30-plus in use) or no tan at all. Today I'm wearing socks, jeans, and two warm tops; oh the joy of the UK in June.

sodapop Tue 11-Jun-19 08:43:05

Never ever pop sox, that awful line they leave imprinted in one's calf - ugh.
I always wear trousers as I have one leg which is covered in very unsightly veins, not bad enough for surgery but not nice to see.

ninathenana Tue 11-Jun-19 06:51:18

Meant to add, because my legs are always exposed, they are permanently tanned.

ninathenana Tue 11-Jun-19 06:41:19

My legs are bare, winter and summer and have been for years. The advantage of age is that I haven't needed to shave my legs, or anywhere else, for a few years smile

I only wear trousers and socks if it's really cold and I can cover my top half in a long coat.

Alima Tue 11-Jun-19 06:12:49

Phew, thats alright then. Mainly jeans or thinner summer trousers. Socks in winter, bare feet and sandals in summer. Unless going somewhere posh when pop sox are needed. Loathe tights, the most uncomfortable things known to woman. Tried hold ups once. Not my best moment. Norah Batty eat your heart out.

BBbevan Tue 11-Jun-19 05:58:01

Never ever pop socks!!!!
As soon as I can I wear shorts in the garden so get reasonably brown legs arms and face. But a tan never stays long with me so I do use those gradual tan moisturizers.

Callistemon Mon 10-Jun-19 22:59:42

Just use it as a moisturiser - I suppose stop using it and use a normal one when you're happy with the look. It is very gradual.
Or when your legs look totally different to the rest of you! grin

GabriellaG54 Mon 10-Jun-19 22:51:56

Callistemon
Hmm, but how do you know when enough is enough?

Callistemon Mon 10-Jun-19 22:47:15

The gradual-tan moisturisers are quite good - just a natural look rather than the obvious 'fake tan' look.

Clarins do a face tanning fluid which you mix with your facial moisturiser, but in fact I didn't like that so much, it seemed a bit yellowy rather than a 'glow'.

GabriellaG54 Mon 10-Jun-19 22:47:09

Alima
Oh dear! That was not my intent. I was merely asking about your preferences.

GabriellaG54 Mon 10-Jun-19 22:37:04

My 22:35 post is to Urmstongran

Have you heard the song about you? ...Tangerine, she is all they claim, with her eyes of blue and lips of burning flame...etc.
On YouTube. It was my late dad's favourite song.

GabriellaG54 Mon 10-Jun-19 22:30:44

No. I'm a whitey so can't be too heavy with the fake bake otherwise my face would not match.
I leave 'em as they are but shaved and moisturised. Maybe some Riemann's P20 spray or similar which gives a slight glow.
Stockings or tan tights never, only hold-ups when it's 'showtime' wink
Seriously, only for 'occasions' when it would be expected, dinners and more formal winter dos.
I do wear thick tights in winter with dresses and socks with jeans ditto.

Grammaretto Mon 10-Jun-19 22:26:28

I live in Scotland. hmm summer?
I'm just back from Denmark. How is it they are all blonde but tanned?
