What I miss wearing - age related

I don’t dislike any aspect of my body ....and often go without a bra. Hated them since first time I wore them but my mother made me ‘conform’. Never wear them at home now, and always wear short sleeves in summer. Stop trying to conform to what the media thinks we should look like! I write my own rules now.

I miss wearing anything with a waist. Although I was never a skinny girl I did have a small waist before I had children, and it wasn't too bad for quite a lot of years after that.

Then, in my fifties, I had a major abdominal operation which left me potato shaped. The last time I went to outpatients I asked my surgeon "do you think I should be doing any exercises to get my shape back?" He said "I wouldn't bother". I asked "Well, when do I get to see the small waistline I haven't seen for the last few years?" He said "In the next life!"

Bagatelle I was thinking the same thing, a full cover up is preferable but - hey ho - my lovely DH doesn't seem to mind so (apart from shorts) I will suffer from flabby arms, tummy and 'orrible fat knees. Sound lovely don't I??

I miss wearing high heels, short skirts and dresses as opposed to rather longer ones (below the knees) and sleeveless tops and dresses. However, there are other flattering designs for ‘mature’ ladies which would not look good on the younger ones!

Sleeveless dresses, stiletto shoes, short dresses when on holidays, shorts, bikini bathing suits, and stay up lace top stockings.

A smaller size bra. I was always a DD cup, but oh my poor back, I am now a GG cup. Sigh.

Yup, high heels and closely fitted clothes. The sight of me now in a fitted pencil skirt and sleeveless blouse would bring everyone to tears, including me! Oh, and loons and hippy tops with multi coloured platform shoes from Ravels. Happy daze eh?

I kind of miss the smart blouses that I wore for work - but then I remember the ironing and the feeling goes away!
I certainly don't miss high heels - the last time I wore a medium heel I ended up sideways on the pavement.
What I do miss is pretty hair accessories which I wore when my hair was long. Now it's in a short pixie style and there's no need for them.

Ah, the nostalgia of the memory of 1980's stilletto's (Dynasty, Dallas, Joan Collins, shoulder pads, big hair, etc.)

Reading this thread I am amazed how many people wore uncomfortable clothing; high heels, straight skirts, bikinis.

I wore uncomfortable clothes, for one year between the ages of 18 and 19, the first year I could buy my own clothes with out my mother paying and making the decisions on what I wore..

At the end of that year, out went my 2 pairs of stiletto heels, 2 straight skirts, and later I bought a bikini for one holiday, and have never wore one since. Replaced by
neat little Louis heels, A line skirts and swimming costumes. Clothes I could bound around in, walk miles in, and cavort in water without thinking about them.

Changes in fashion mean I now live in trousers and leggings and the occasional skirt, but I begin to understand why my answer to the question on this thread was Nothing, yet

Oh, I walked for miles on my heels, Margs, and never felt uncomfortable. A mile up the road to work, a mile back, and all the trotting round during the day. It’s different now - ten minutes and I’ve had enough. My dear GM lived into her mid 90s and was never to be seen out without heels and a hat - obviously she was made of sterner stuff!

I have very sparse eyelashes, but recommend a white primer, L’Oréal make a good one, white one end, mascara the other. Couldn’t live without it, it thickens them up no end! Also add a fibre/gel combination mascara, miraculous.
I love clothes and although I steer away from sleeveless dresses (Theresa May looked awful at the Buckingham Palace dinner...) I never understood women saying they can’t find clothes, the shops (and charity shops) are heaving with them.

When I was at university I had a 4 mile walk back to my accommodation if I missed the last bus, which left at 10.30. You only do that once in high heels.

There is an opening for a shop named something like ‘Sleeves’. I’m sure many women would flock to it,

Ladies, Ladies please. No matter what age you are if you are comfortable wearing a certain item of clothing wear it. Life is to short to keep worrying about other people. If you are a certain age you are not going to wear mini skirts and six inch heels. I’m in my late sixties. I still wear tight jeans, skirts above my knee, full face makeup. I go for pedicures and manicures. Posture is important. Don’t forget to smile?? go for it

I don't miss wearing any one thing in particular, but it does annoy me that most clothes are made in styles and materials appropriate for young women in their early twenties.

I am 5 ft 2, weigh and around 50 kgs, most clothes these days are made for much larger women, whether young or my age. I can rarely even find skirts or slacks in the charity shops, apparently only larger ladies are charitable!

Varian. Never expect empathy from a surgeon?. I remember one I knew who told an over plump fifty-something patient “there’s nothing wrong with you that a little dieting won’t cure”. She rushed out of room in tears of outrage!

Why? she must have known that anyway. I wish my GP was similarly blunt. (not to me, I am not overweight) but to other members of my family.

varian I would have found that surgeons comments reassuring- we are the shape we are, now in our nearly senior years.

I am apple shaped, short ( and I have shrunk a cm lol) but I find plenty to wear. I am wearing a green Seasalt linen dress with sleeves out tomorrow for lunch.

I sew too. We are all still here - let’s rejoice it ladies?
