I wouldn't be seen dead wearing XXXX .... and why?

.....a miniskirt, pair of shorts, thong, false nails...
Short items of clothing on my body would freak everyone out.
Thongs make me cringe with imagined discomfort and false nails are pointless on a muckworm like me who enjoys getting her hands grubby.

Anyone else?

Tattoos. I think they’re awful. They look like bruises a lot of the time. Badges of narcissism imo. They seem to have become normal though, so perhaps it’s just me.

I wouldn't feel totally dressed without heels when appropriate. I also enjoy shorts. I currently am suffering 'gardening nails' but am nervous of false ones because of my ignorance in that arena. Presumably they are 'permanent' until they fall off?

I gave up thongs when No VPL knickers came into being - much more comfortable.

Still wear short skirts in the winter with thick tights, boots and long jumpers.

Would love to wear heels but have dreadful feet and can't walk in them - either flats or small heels. I do have a pair of high (ish) boots which are ok.

Never worn a bikini - have had a huge 'zip' gall bladder scar since I was 24 which looks gross.

Shorts are a no no unless I've been on holiday - last one of which was years ago although I was tempted during the recent heatwave and we were doing a new garden - bought a pair to wear outside but then the weather changed so they're still in the drawer.

False nails I still have - my nails have always been weak and split no matter what remedies I've tried and looked appalling. I have them done every 3 weeks or so but they're not long and I manage most things with no problem. Always use a nail brush to keep them clean in the bathroom and the kitchen.

Definitely no flounces, frills, short jumpers, hair bands and sadly corset type tops since figure has gone south and arms have followed sad grin

Never wear anything that is labeled vintage, I am vintage and don't want to look it. Still wear short skirts but with leggings, flat shoes, no polo tops or anything with a low top. Don't want to get wrinkles on my chest. Wear lycra for cycling and longish shorts.

Teresa May's above the knee skirts make me shudder. On the knee is so much more elegant at our age, and I'm an ex mini, giant flares, jangling beads and bells hippie. Loved it then. But not now!

I saw an article on Lorraine on ITV this morning about mothers dressing like their daughters. The clothes were all lovely and some colourful ones too, but the mums were all tall and slim. Nothing there to suit me unfortunately. Wide leg trousers and a flouncy skirt. One shirt dress but too long. Oh well .....

Anything that is typical for “ old ladies”, those comfy shoes you see in Saga mag eg! Beige coats, pop socks etc. Even my 92 YO mother wears stylish clothes with none of the above in sight!

Actually Misadventure there are some days when a burkha seems appealing! Days when my hair is a bit uncooperative and I can't be bothered putting a face on.

GillT57 Fri 09-Aug-19 12:13:39

No thongs here
no shorts as have knees like Chinese babies
otherwise I please myself within reason, always have manicured nails, sometimes painted, ditto toenails.
Due to fat feet can't wear very high shoes

Purplepoppies Fri 09-Aug-19 12:13:32

I dont wear thongs because I don't find them comfortable.
I will wear a bikini on holiday, I'm never going to meet these people again, who cares ?
I have great legs, so do wear shorts. I don't tend to wear short skirts, I have a flat bum so they don't sit right on me. I'm in my 40s .
I think you should wear it whatever you want really. Nobody else's business.....

I love a jumpsuit. I have two. smile

Craftycat Fri 09-Aug-19 12:06:40

Not a thong- never found them comfortable.
I love high heeled shoes & I live in shorts in the summer. I prefer a shortish skirt but certainly not a mini!!
My nails are very strong & rarely break so I keep them long & have a monthly manicure & SNS polish. I would be lost without long nails as I use them for all sorts of things- they are like tools! I've never scratched anyone with them & I can apply face cream with no problem. They are very useful!
I am not keen on trousers but wear jeans in the winter a lot.
I think as long as you are comfortable you should wear what you want & not worry about what anyone else thinks. I decided when I got to 65 that I would be too old to care now anyway!

I eat half a jelly every day. I think its good for the nails. Mine are OK.

lemongrove Fri 09-Aug-19 11:54:21

I wouldn’t be seen dead wearing ( at this age)
Short skirts
Very high heels
Long hair
A hairband
Shorts
Bikini
False eyelashes
Jumpsuit

Theoddbird Fri 09-Aug-19 11:51:05

Jeans...won't wear them. I have very long real nails...doesn't stop me doing anything in answer to a question earlier on here.

Francis Fri 09-Aug-19 11:40:39

i enjoy getting my nails done smile but each to there own person

fizzers Fri 09-Aug-19 11:38:12

anything short or tight, am too fat for it these days, but back in my younger days the shorter the better grin same applies to heels.

I sometimes wear thongs but not often and my nails are long

TBH, if you look good in it, and you are comfortable wearing it, then it shouldn't really matter what you wear

BusterTank Fri 09-Aug-19 11:32:47

I dress for comfort these days . I don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb , or looking like i should be working on the street corner . Ladies grow old gracefully .

blueberry1 Fri 09-Aug-19 11:32:40

The one thing I wouldn't be seen dead in,now, or when I was a youngster,is a jumpsuit.I think they are awful garments even when seen on someone with a lovely figure.

mrsgreenfingers56 Fri 09-Aug-19 11:29:52

My legs are still good so I wear shorts in hot weather (with some fake tan!) and having had a mastectomy it is nice to feel confident about one part of my body. I am always been told what good legs I have, well must be all the cycling, fell walking and skiing I have done.

maryhoffman37 Fri 09-Aug-19 11:19:08

Ripped jeans. (I have to wear flats because of foot problems but I agree they aren't glamorous.)

Rowantree Fri 09-Aug-19 11:16:32

Vivonce Wow, still riding a bike at 104, let alone with a skirt and court shoes!
I never managed to learn to ride a bike. Good for her!

vivonce Fri 09-Aug-19 11:14:21

On Facebook yesterday there was a photo of Olivia de Havilland now aged 104, out on her daily cycle ride in a knee-length skirt and court shoes. I have yet to reach 80 and have given up my bicycle, court shoes and knee-length skirts.

Lindylou57 Fri 09-Aug-19 11:12:51

No Leopard Print, Thongs or Sheer Blouses!

Jeanlizzie Fri 09-Aug-19 11:12:03

Ugg boots , those skirts or dresses that are longer at the front or back or leggings i envy people who can carry leggings off but for me def no no look like a badly stuffed sausage , and night clothes during the day
