wearing make-up

I used to put on make-up, especially lipstick, eye shadow and mascara, before going to work in the morning. If we were going out at night I even had false eyelashes.
Then for the last 20 years or so everyone seems to have gone au naturel. But recently I've noticed more women, even my age, look as if they've started to make up again. Especially lipstick and foundation.
I don't think I could be bothered - what do you think?

I cannot understand women who go swimming with a face full of makeup.
What’s the point of that. Who is going to notice or care.
Maybe apply it afterwards.

I was in a make-up rut. So recently booked a session in well known Body S... Lady there spent ages trying different cosmetics, free with no obligation. Well worth my time. I spent roughly £30 on mascara, tinted moisuriser, and multi shaded blusher which doubled as eye
brow powder. Lovely new products which I would have never found. Have a treat ladies!

Liz I buy Swiss o par eyebrow/eyelash tint in brown online and do it myself. It’s easy to do, don’t leave it on too long though. Have found 90 seconds is optimum time. Needs doing about once a month. If you have straggly odd hairs, just pluck them.

I put my makeup on before coming downstairs in the morning, always have done, even if I'm not going anywhere. I have it on for the gym, my water aerobics class - you name it - it's slapped on!

Saggi Thu 22-Aug-19 17:02:02

Never used it. I like the way i look.Even as a teenager I felt uncomfortable after putting it on.... like a clown in fact. Never felt the need after that first try! My mother despaired of me!

Well of course re suncream - always use a simple moisturiser with factor 15.

Liz46, I have discovered Palladio Brow Obsessed

www.palladiobeauty.com/products/brow-obsessed-mousse-with-fibers?variant=29834794628

It's not black but it's great!

Haven't worn makeup since my middle 20's (I'm 69 now). Can't be bothered, too much messing about, and it's so-ooo expensive now.

minxie Thu 22-Aug-19 15:49:56

I never ever step outside without my face on. It’s second nature and I don’t want to scare the locals

Lewie Thu 22-Aug-19 15:43:44

travelsafar you might want to try 'My Lash' if you want longer thicker eyelashes. I've been using it for about a month now and it really works! Loving my new longer eyelashes!

Greciangirl Thu 22-Aug-19 15:39:10

At the age of 74, I use a creamy foundation, a dab of block face powder around my eyes to hide the bags.
Then it’s a bit of pale blue eyeshadow, followed by a blue pencil liner on the inner eyes, then finished of with mascara.

I don’t bother with eyebrows as I don’t have any. A pencil would look too harsh.

I can’t be bothered applying all this unless I’m going out into town to meet with friends etc.

I do feel it’s becoming more of an effort though. I just feel too lazy sometimes. Didn’t even bother much when family came to stay this week.

People who don't wear make up, do you still use a sun screen on your face?

Yes, why wouldnt I?
not on a work day though as I am in the office for most of the day. If Im going to be out and about (usually weekends) I have a pot with SPF that I'll wear

Grannyguitar Thu 22-Aug-19 15:20:02

I haven't worn makeup for about 15 years now. Reminds me of the old limerick. "As a beauty I'm not a great star, there are others more handsome by far, but my face I don't mind it, because I'm behind it, 'tis the folks in the front that I jar"!
If people don't like what they see, they can always look elsewhere

Nicolaed Thu 22-Aug-19 15:19:35

I only wear make up for an evening out and even then it's a modest amount of foundation, shadow, blusher and lipstick.

shortie666 Thu 22-Aug-19 14:56:10

I think aittle bit of makeup keeps your femininity. Time to go bare when you're no longer around Ha!!

SueDonim Thu 22-Aug-19 14:29:43

Travelsafar I agree that facial sunscreens do feel heavy on the skin, at least all the ones I've tried. I have some sun damage caused by living in tropical countries so I need to be careful with my skin. I find the foundations with sun screen are better for me, although I now also wear a hat if it's very sunny.

That doesn't happen too often in Scotland, though! grin

Moisturize twice a day. Foundation and a little bit of bluster. On eyes either silver or beige eyeshadow. Instead of eyeliner so use eyeshadow brush yo put dark grey or brown eyeshadow next to lashes....so much softer than eyeliner and just enough to emphasize shape. Then mascara. I am 68

Damdee Thu 22-Aug-19 14:21:41

I am wearing less and less make-up - don't bother on a normal day and am perfectly happy with how I look without. I am 62 and let my hair go grey in the last year and have had more compliments on it than ever before in my life - but I am lucky I suppose as it is a lovely silver. I'd like to wear mascara more but even ones that are supposed to be hypo-allergenic or whatever its called affect my eyes now. So even for special occasions it's just a little foundation mousse, a touch of blusher, subtle eyeliner and neutral lipstick.

Tigertooth I agree to a certain extent, re ageing for older people. Which is why I aim for enhancing, invisible makeup.

One of my students said to me, "You're wearing eyeliner." What had actually happened was that I was wearing MORE eyeliner than usual.

travelsafar Thu 22-Aug-19 13:59:08

SueDonim in answer to your question i try to remember to use sunscreen everyday but it does make my face feel quite 'clogged up' If i am just popping to the supermarket and no outside for long then no On days when i am working in the garden or walking to town and especially when i am bowling outside i definately use it.

Tigertooth Thu 22-Aug-19 13:58:28

I hate make up - I think it’s ageing in the older and masking natural beauty in the young.
However, due to alopecia I now have to wear eye make -up, false lashes and tattood eyebrows just to feel normal.
I didn’t get the alopecia u TIL I was 50 so after 50 years without so much as a mascara I’ve had to learn to apply. I still try to keep it minimal but I resent doing it to achieve ‘normal’ - and no, I know I don’t have to but it’s prefersble to being stared at.

grandtanteJE65 Thu 22-Aug-19 13:56:51

I no longer use make up every day, but when I do put it on I use mascara, eye shadow, a little rouge if I'm looking pale and powder.

I don't use foundation unless going to a big do - now I come to think of it, I didn't use any at the last big do we were at.

4allweknow Thu 22-Aug-19 13:51:01

I do on a fairly regular basis use a grey eyeliner, mascara and foundation. The foundation I use as little as possible as dermatologist informed me foundation with SPF causes hair loss (I suffer from a very specific alopecia) and I cannot find any without SPF in UK. Not having eyebrows when tattoos fade I use eyebrow pencil. Without makeup and no eyebrows I look weird!

I always panic at the array of things now , any easy tips for a lady who loves make up but ends up looking like a clown
