Help! My hair has the texture of Candy Floss!

As I've got older my hair has become very dry as opposed to being quite greasy in my younger days. It is quite fine but lots of it. Can anyone recommend a serum or any thing that would give it a smoother look? Hairspray doesn't help much either. I use a coconut oil shampoo and rich conditioner but neither seem to help.

I’m so glad it worked for you Happi! I love it, wouldn’t be without it now smile

SirChenjin Thanks so much for recommending the TIGI Bed Head After Party product! Used it on dry hair when it arrived yesterday, and again this morning after washing. It really works and, as you said, only a tiny amount is needed.

I used to use that decades ago but hair ended up with a shine like patent leather, even using it sparingly.

My hair is fine, but I have got a lot, apparently. I colour it, wash and blow-dry it every day. It is like yours - like candyfloss.

I've tried every serum, oil, etc., there is but have just discovered something that actually makes my hair soft, shiny and sleek - Schwartzkoff's GLISS hair shine tonic. It's a spray that you leave on, and it works fantastically well!

That links to the larger 50mm one - there’s also a smaller one at 35mm (or thereabouts)

That link doesn’t look very nice! It’s the rotating brush you need www.google.com/shopping/product/3166398249849812169?q=babyliss+big+hair+rotating+brush&rlz=1C1GCEA_enGB860GB860&biw=1093&bih=526&tbs=vw:l,ss:44&prds=epd:15057940661080674215,paur:ClkAsKraX4xHF2-_DAnnEjmkQMbE7-3ufJT7AlXvHJO3CdND7s81vS3Lkk--zgWwVe5flCvkoxUrj5ZWZLZA8iMhUK7EEs_er3sdLZChelIIFYS8xcH3KVUZXxIZAFPVH73L9zrE-dJztqj6dyaCjNVrAMZRoA,cdl:1,prmr:1,cs:1

Been searching for the Babyliss Brush - which one is it that you are all recommending as there are loads of different ones it seems?

My hair is the same as yours in texture and colour, but also has a wave in it. The shampoo and conditioner left my hair clean but not lank, as lank is not a word my hair is familiar with. It just wasn’t smooth or sleek, which is what I was hoping for from the argan oil. Perhaps I expected too much from it smile

GabriellaG54 Mon 30-Sept-19 16:37:31

SirChenjin

What was your opinion after using them?
Left your hair lank?
Hair didn't feel clean?
It would help me assess my own hair compared to the way yours felt and looked.
Mine is coloured but not bleached, is thick and tends to be straight-ish with a bit of frizz in damp weather.
Thank you. smile

SirChenjin Mon 30-Sept-19 16:21:22

Argan

SirChenjin Mon 30-Sept-19 16:21:07

I bought these recently, having been tempted by the argon oil. I was very disappointed in them but hopefully you’ll have more luck - and it’s only a couple of pounds if you’re not smile

GabriellaG54 Mon 30-Sept-19 16:15:53

Bought today in Poundland. Obvs...£1 each. ??

Thanks Sir

I use the Tresemme one in the red bottle - it’s v reasonably priced and seems to work on my hair www.boots.com/tresemme-heat-protection-spray-keratin-smooth-200ml-10230984?cm_mmc=bmm-buk-google-ppc-_-PLAs_HeroCompare-_-Tresemme-_-Boots+Shopping+-+Category+-+Beauty+-+Mobile&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlfDAsM745AIVTPlRCh25TQd6EAQYAyABEgJcjvD_BwE

Sparklefizz Mon 30-Sept-19 12:57:01

Thank you for your advice SirChenjin - which heat protector with keratin do you use?

SirChenjin Mon 30-Sept-19 12:32:03

Sparkle - save your money, honestly! Mine looked great for the first couple of weeks but went back to normal after that, I wouldn’t get it again.

The Babyliss Big Hair on the other hand is worth every penny imo. There are two sizes so you could get the smaller one which would work very well on your hair length. There’s a knack to it - spray heat protector on (I use on with keratin), blast your hair with a hairdryer until it’s pretty much dry and then use the BBH on sections of your hair. It rotates in both directions so you choose which on you want - and it doesn’t give you big hair as such, just bouncy, smooth hair. Have a look on YouTube as there are lots of helpful videos on there about how to use it smile

Sparklefizz Mon 30-Sept-19 12:06:27

I am interested in the Babyliss Big Hair Rotating Brush. I have got a jaw length bob - would my hair be long enough for it?

Sparklefizz Mon 30-Sept-19 12:05:20

And John Frieda's "Three Day Straight" is a lie as it only keeps mine straight for about half an hour!!

Sparklefizz Mon 30-Sept-19 12:04:27

My hairdresser this morning has just recommended Olaplex ! confused

4allweknow Mon 30-Sept-19 11:58:55

I too have candy floss hair and argon oil seems too heavy for me. Due to the flyaway problem I find that washing it less often has the best affect but of course back to square one when I do. If I am desperate I use a spray/leave in conditioner but I apply very lightly to a brush and comb it through. Far too heavy to apply direct.

Hetty58 Sun 29-Sept-19 21:06:15

It must be only me who uses mayonnaise as conditioner then?

Joyfulnanna Sun 29-Sept-19 21:03:56

Steer clear of Olaplex!! Expensive and short-lived effect, if it even works

Milo27 Sun 29-Sept-19 20:54:52

OLAPLEX!

Milo27 Sun 29-Sept-19 20:54:24

Have you tried Ola[;ex? I think it is hairdresser only but the difference in your hair texture and condition is fab. It lasts a bit as well x
