Matching sets of lingerie

I follow a fashion blog authored by a middle aged woman, and the topic came up regarding a new line of bras that she had heard were comfortable, but she hadn't tried them because they did not offer matching panties. She only wore matching sets.

Not being of the matching set crowd, this made me curious.

What ratio of bras to panties would one purchase? I don't wash my bra with every wear, so one would either need many sets to make it through the week, or purchase 1 bra to every 5 panties. Is this what is done?

What if you are wearing light trousers and a dark top? Do you break rank?

What about cost? I know I pay quite a bit for a nice bra, but the matching panties tend to be extraordinarily expensive.

I have a few favourite bras, and do my best to colour match with my fav cotton undies. You may, however, find me unmatched if I end up hit by a bus and end up in the hospital.

Thoughts?

I always buy matching underwear......if the bra doesn’t have the matching pants, I don’t buy it......I wear black/white/skin tone (for wearing under white clothes)

The weather has turned cold. I’m wearing big jumpers. This means I don’t need to wear a bra. Bliss!

Definitely clean every day. Always matching set, it just feels so good. Quite tiny bit still call them knicks, panties sounds so funny.

Yes monica more or less my point!

I always wear matching sets, Bravissimo, Panache, Fantasie, not M&S whose bras never fit me.

I was startled to realise that I’m in a minority in wearing clean bra and knickers every day.

mcem Didn't you realise that A&E staff spend all their spare time discussing whether patients underwear matched and what that says about their chance of recovery grin

Actually I doubt they even notice.

minxie that's a view I endorse after finding myself in A&E last summer (as I said above) although I was not hit by a bus. I can assure the naysayers that my matching undies were not my first priority at the time (and I think the same goes for the A&E staff.)
I'm sure they have dealt with lots of nasty stuff so I'm sure my neat co-ordinated set didn't put them off their stride or in any way traumatise them!

I recently won a competition in a magazine and my prize was a very pretty matching set of bra and pants. My first ever matching set! At nearly seventy it was a long wait.

Always wear matching colours, love matching sets, buy 1 bra, 2 pants. Always wash my whites with a laundry whitener,Ecover do a great laundry whitening powder, can't bear to see dingy grey whites, one of my pet hates Never wash whites with colours, aaah!! I know it's only underwear, and nobody but me takes any notice, but the funny thing is my sister is just the same !

I've only ever had one matching set of bra and knickers, worn for my first wedding when I was 22, over 40 years ago.

The last 5-pack I bought were 'Full briefs' and I wish I hadn't spent so many years kidding myself that smaller styles were a good idea. Comfort matters a billion times more than looks, and nobody else sees mine anyway - even my washing line isn't overlooked!

I don’t own a single set of matching lingerie. Bras are chosen according to the colour of top I’m wearing, knickers are chosen depending on whether I’m wearing work trousers (my non-VPL knicks) or jeans/dresses where anything goes.

I’m always hopeful that an ambulance crew would be more concerned with saving my life that checking to see if my underwear matches!

nanarose yes I learnt on my lingerie making course that bra making was for the very dedicated, there were so many different pattern pieces and different types of material, power net, elastic, hooks and eyes, and different hardware, wires, lace etc, I think it took me couple of weeks to make a bra for my 32b chest. Corsets, camisoles and French knickers are a cinch by comparison.
Urmstongran thanks! I do like to make some fancy pants!

M0nica Fri 25-Oct-19 17:41:37

Yes, just to stop them wobbling around.

I am like Bluebelle, just pull some out of the drawer. But I have been inspired by the make your own gang, so this winter I am going to sign up for a making knickers course.

Mine always match, (sort of) because I only ever wear black.

minxie Fri 25-Oct-19 15:15:54

There’s a little known law, that states it’s illegal to wear mis matched underwear. I never buy bras if I can’t match the pants
One might get run over by a bus !!!

NotSpaghetti Fri 25-Oct-19 15:12:23

Oops, M0nica - apologies!

I have both matching sets and many plain black and white ones and of course when needed I mix them up. Mostly I wear pull on crop top type bras for comfort especially if I'm staying home.

mcem Fri 25-Oct-19 13:01:58

Not quite hit by a bus but ended up in A&E with a broken hip. Was wearing skin tone bra, knickers and 'shaper' slip. (Plus a dress of course!) Admittedly that was because I was dressed for an afternoon function and

Matching undies post-accident were not my first priority but was quite pleased, with hindsight, that I was co-ordinated!

WishIwasyounger Fri 25-Oct-19 12:25:44

I used to love buying and wearing matching undies when younger: gave me such confidence. As I grew older it didn't seem to matter as much, and for the past 10 years or so haven't bothered. I wear mainly nude coloured bras and bralettes as they go with most tops, and any colour knicker that comes out of the drawer.
If I started dating again (perish the thought) I'd probably need a confidence boost again, so would be looking to buy a matching set or two. Black was my favourite.

olliebeak Fri 25-Oct-19 10:57:50

As long as the colour of bra and knickers are basically 'a match', I'm quite happy. Black bra HAS to go with black knickers is my one and only stipulation!

Rosiebee Fri 25-Oct-19 10:39:23

Knickers all black or skin tone, but bras are mostly colours and patterns. I like wide neck tops, and if bra straps do peek out, they at least look pretty. Also have a couple of skin/black ones to fit under specific tops.
