For those with a Sparks card this year's advent calendar is available to order from today.
For those of you who feel this is just an extravagance and not in the spirit of the season, please spare a thought for those of us who get pleasure from it and may not get much joy and good cheer at this time of year for all sorts of reasons.

I've always been vaguely disappointed by them. I suppose they're 'one size fits all' but they usually contain so many things I won't use that there's no point. I do give those items to my dds but it's a bit pointless to spend all that money, so I don't bother now.

Also, in this day and age of climate awareness, all that plastic trash from the containers doesn't sit well with me.

If it's your bag, though, enjoy!

Paperchase are doing one this year that has had good reviews. I have never bought one before but it's worth thinking about. Nothing like treating yourself occasionally.

Nannan2 Sat 26-Oct-19 12:03:58

I treat myself last year to m&s one, cheaper as id bought other items, but im afraid i was disappointed in it.certainly wouldn't have thought it worth full higher price!

I love these and think they are great value. Had one for the last three years and only just finished some of the products from last year. Brilliant if you travel a lot and a great way of trying their products. Bought two full size products after trying them!

Can’t seem to find them on Sparks today though? Am I missing something?

tanith Sat 26-Oct-19 12:28:53

It is there if you search beauty advent calendar on the M&S site but it’s not available till October 31st.

tanith Sat 26-Oct-19 12:30:26

I’m guessing that’s if you don’t have a card though.

Don’t often whinge, however: Given that we over forties struggle from time to time, and require certain meds, I went to Asda for tub of 75g aspirin, usually 80 pence. Now, a leap to £1.80. Can’t get an explanation. Exploitation?

I’m conflicted this year, I love the Markies one but really fancy the l’occitane one this year .... decisions decisions

I ordered mine yesterday along with some nice jeans and top so i got the offer, I have bought it for myself for the past 3 years something to look forward to.

Brunette10 Sat 26-Oct-19 13:01:22

I am a Sparks member but have no offer of ordering the Calendar, I got one last year so don't want to be disappointed this year. How do you order in advance please?

Albangirl14 Sat 26-Oct-19 13:46:22

Thanks annsixty for the tip. I went straight to the m and s site and my sparks card also gave me 20% off trousers I ordered alongside the advent calendar. Last year when I bought trousers they were too long and I took them back but of course kept the calendar so you don't have to spend £25 in order to buy one.

I just received the Boots one but I have opened every single one and packed my goodies away, my bad grin

GabriellaG54 Sat 26-Oct-19 14:12:21

I bought 2 as I did last year. Still haven't opened the second one from 2018. A real bargain if you spend the obligatory amount which enables you to make the purchase.
They have some fabulous homeware too.
M&S ?

HootymcOwlFace,

Ha yes my daughter said you open them as no Mum is stopping you, she’s right. Yes I used to feel presents under the tree and guess what it was never got it right though. I got Superdrug’s last year although it wasn’t very good seemed to be discontinued lines and got about to day six then unwrapped them all. Haha.

tidyskatemum Sat 26-Oct-19 14:41:05

These things are not exactly environmentally friendly, are they? Lots of packaging with all the little tubes and bottles. And it's such a con anyway - you're paying through the nose for what are not much more than samples in the hope that you might be tempted to buy the full size article later.

CaroleAnne Sat 26-Oct-19 14:52:08

I love my advent calender. Maybe I will have one with chocolates in to open this year!!

Retired65 Sat 26-Oct-19 14:52:35

I am a sparks member but I too cannot see how I order their advent calender. I love the box, although I didn't think much of last year's.

Marydoll Sat 26-Oct-19 15:08:50

I received an email from M&S this morning, offering me the chance to buy a calendar before it hits the shops.

"As a Sparks member, we’re letting you snap it up first
Packed with 25 pampering treats worth £300 – including Emma Hardie,
Nails Inc, L’Occitane and Formula – discover your perfect Christmas countdown.
Sparks preview available online only ACTIVATE THIS OFFER"

Once you click the link, it takes you to your Sparks card, where you add the offer to your card.

redsue Sat 26-Oct-19 15:09:08

I got an email from sparks yesterday, it goes on sale 31st October if you haven't got the email from Sparks for early ordering.

I had a jam and marmalade one last year, A little glass jar of different flavored jam or marmalade every day. it was good fun and the jars were good for taking small amounts of condiments for my lunch at work too.

lemongrove Sat 26-Oct-19 16:19:52

That sounds good Carol in fact, it would be the only Advent Calendar with goodies that I would want at all.

Parklife1 Sat 26-Oct-19 16:38:53

They’re only worth the money if you will use all of the goods in them. I had an M&S one a couple of years ago and haven’t used all the things. Same with the Boots one.

I have drawers of make up and skin stuff, so I won’t bother again.

No you dont need to have a sparks card to get the advent calendar, but i believe its half price or something if you are already spending a certain amount online (or instore) for items in M&S.well thats what they did last year.says online not available till 31st oct this year,so dont know. This year i recognise 3 brand items, last year i knew none of them,i guess maybe you have to buy the M&S beauty items regularly to know what they arehmmThere didnt appear to be much in way of full size items either.

Nannan2 Sat 26-Oct-19 18:43:44

I have more fun buying '3 for 2' gifts from M&S,Boots,Superdrug, etc. and i keep the 'free' one for myself,so no- one can moan I've got them a freebie gift for christmas!grin
