For those with a Sparks card this year's advent calendar is available to order from today.
For those of you who feel this is just an extravagance and not in the spirit of the season, please spare a thought for those of us who get pleasure from it and may not get much joy and good cheer at this time of year for all sorts of reasons.

Thanks ann. I've not thought seriously about it before but this year I suspect temptation will overcome me. Enjoy the anticipation of yours.

Good point Annsixty
DD bought me one when Paw died - I was hugely appreciative!

GrannyGravy13 Fri 25-Oct-19 15:18:58

Off to order one just for me!!!

Daisymae Fri 25-Oct-19 15:19:10

Oh. Don't tempt me! I have the boots no. 7 one on order.

annsixtyThe last few years I have shared the M & S calendar with my daughter, one year she had even numbers I the odd ones and vice versa. She is moving out in November so having the goodies all to myself will be a form of comfort as I shall miss her and our GC so very much.

I had a Fortnum and Mason tea one given to me a couple of years ago and had a different flavoured teabag everyday - it was lovely.

I agree, it is a good calendar, I’m not getting a calendar this year, I open them daily then think oh sod it and open them all ? as I can’t wait.

Riggie Sat 26-Oct-19 10:00:28

Id only ever thought about them in the sense of "waste of money" because they always have something in I wont use.

But for someone on their own I guess opening something they havent actually chosen themselves and having a surprise must mean a lot.

HootyMcOwlface Sat 26-Oct-19 10:04:16

Oh Gineagirl you are naughty! I bet you used to search the house for your (hidden) presents when you were little ( like my sister did!) ?

Camelotclub Sat 26-Oct-19 10:06:25

Depends what the gifts are!

jenni123 Sat 26-Oct-19 10:07:03

never purchased or been given an Advent calendar in my life. I can't see the point. also damn companies bombard us with gift catalogues, raffle tickets etc from about August. Makes me mad. anything like that sent to me before the end of October goes straight in the bin without being read. Yep bah Humbug

Camelotclub Sat 26-Oct-19 10:10:51

BTW, is that the Walking in a Whisky Wonderland or Gins of Christmas advent calendar? !

BlueSapphire Sat 26-Oct-19 10:13:36

I will look out for it. DS's partner's birthday is 30th November and that would be ideal.

Lxrl Sat 26-Oct-19 10:29:27

What is usually offered in the advent calendars from M&S?

Curlywhirly Sat 26-Oct-19 10:52:24

I bought one last year - I am afraid I have only used a few of the 'gifts'. Lots of tiny tubes of various creams and lotions and a few items of makeup. Can't say I fell in love with anything in the calendar, so won't be buying another one this year.

Talk about coincidence an unexpected parcel came yesterday, inside a posh store beauty advent calendar. Turns out it’s from my son an early Christmas gift, he lives abroad and after the week I’ve had it cheered me up no end a little gift to open every day in December. Not sure how much use they will be to me but I really appreciate his thoughtfulness.

GrandmaKT Sat 26-Oct-19 11:18:27

What a thoughtful son you have tanith . Will you be able to wait til December though?

jenpax Sat 26-Oct-19 11:19:41

Do you have to have a Sparks card to get one? I don’t have one but would like to get them for my three DD

seacliff Sat 26-Oct-19 11:26:58

How thoughtful of him Tanith. What a lovely son.

I've never bought myself an Advent calendar, but I can see it's a treat to open a surprise present every day. Just to cheer yourself up a bit. ~

I started looking on Amazon to see what is available. I like OPI nail varnish, very occasionally. They have this limited edition Christmas set, but too much for me at £42. www.amazon.co.uk/OPI-Limited-Christmas-Collection-Polish/dp/B07VYL7YJ5/ref=pd_sbs_194_t_1/260-7714862-4842604?pf_rd_p=e44592b5-e56d-44c2-a4f9-dbdc09b29395&_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_wg=yoeA6&pf_rd_r=HTHG4HDKMVARJE0JMWW6&pd_rd_i=B07VYL7YJ5&pd_rd_w=0QHpX&tag=gransnetforum-21&refRID=HTHG4HDKMVARJE0JMWW6&pd_rd_r=d3f3ef53-d98f-4c21-ac03-ee357d9ede3e#moreAboutThisProduct

GrandmaKT yes I will as I know I do hate the dark December days so much it will cheer me every morning so I’ll wait?. I have to admit my son isn’t one for remembering birthdays etc but does surprise me out of the blue occasionally.

Sarahmob Sat 26-Oct-19 11:29:52

My husband buys me a Yankee candle one every year, I so appreciate the candle each evening. Brings light to dark, dreary December

tanith Sat 26-Oct-19 11:32:49

It’s such a lovely box

seacliff Sat 26-Oct-19 11:33:41

Oh dear, I have strayed into the luxury chocolates section.
