Wrinkles- what has happened?

Two years ago I was under enormous stress, Paw had been seriously ill for months and who knew what the future held.
He died that November so I was not at all surprised that it showed in my face.
Two years on I seem to have aged a whole lot more and hardly dare look in the mirror, without recoiling at the wrinkles.
When did my age (71) catch up with me?

But they do have nice smooth skin!
But rather an odd grin like this grin

You know carved pumpkins that have been about lately........Yip, that's me.

Keep doing the facial exercises - yes, gurning is good but make sure you're on your own in a locked room
grin (a big, wide one)

Oh no!
With my teeth and face I'd look like I was in a gurning competition.

My expert advice here.
Wait for it.
Chew gum! If exercise makes for tighter, shorter muscles surely chewing would do the same for the masseters.?

A melted candle! grin
So cruel, but so funny.

Resting bitch face, is a haughty, expressionless face Like Vivien Leigh. people who adopt it are less likely to get wrinkles. MyDD says i have a RBF, I am flattered.

I had terribly spotty, oily skin when I was younger. My mum always said never mind, Irene because you won’t get bad wrinkles in old age. Must’ve been said to comfort me because it is not true. My youngest GS used to sit on my knee and trace them with his finger !

Mollygo Mon 04-Nov-19 18:33:32

If all the face stuff and moisturisers I use really worked, I wouldn’t need to worry about the wrinkles I see. Or, how much more wrinkly would I look if I hadn’t used them? Scary thought!

Sparklefizz Mon 04-Nov-19 18:22:38

She had drawn me with my mouth turned down.

I think this is what they call "resting bitch face" in the media. I have always had this. Even when I was young, builders would call out to me "Cheer up! It might never happen"

I think the worst thing is the body sagging. My friend's husband said she looked like a melted candle from the back shock !!!! Who needs a partner like that???

Pregnancy at 39 is doing me no favours. Where/what is this glow I’ve been hearing of? I have always had deep-set dark circles under my eyes and now noticeable wrinkles too.
Will my middle ever go back to my size 8’s after? I will possibly have to have a hysterectomy at delivery too.
Fortunately, as a ginger gal there's only a few grey hairs but my word they are coarse.
I think my health conditions and medications have a part to play that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.

Its the saggy bits I don't like, I don't have many wrinkles which I put down to all the anti wrinkle cream I have thrown on it over the years. But saggy bits.... horrible and I take a terrible photo.

I have noticed with each decade that passes, I sometimes look in the mirror and think I don’t look my best today. Time has taught me that is how I will look on a good day in the next decade.

It just happens to the best of us - inevitable really. I recommend never cleaning mirrors, lower wattage light bulbs and always removing glasses (so you can't see the details).

I gave my magnifying mirror to my daughter (fat too traumatic looking in that). Simple water boost hydrating cream, blusher and a shorter hair cut seem to help.

It does creep up on you this old age. My GD had to tell her new teacher what I was like as I was picking her up from school and apparently she said I had wrinkles! The wonderful thing was she didn't see it as something bad to have - as far as she is concerned it is just the way I am - wrinkly. Fortunately he didn't seem to be able to pick me out so the wrinkles can't be that bad. It is the bags under the eyes that get me down - I look like a bloodhound, thank god for glasses.

Diabetic medication aged me horribly . Leathery skin and deep wrinkles

grandtanteJE65 Mon 04-Nov-19 17:04:16

Well, I haven't been through such a lot of sad things as many of you, but the wrinkles are there all right, plus bags under my eyes, hairy chin and a nice moustache and thinning hair.

When I catch sight of myself in a mirror by accident instead of having made myself look, I wonder, "When did I become so old and ugly?" Vanity obviously hasn't died yet, but the moderate good looks I was blessed with earlier certainly have gone.

LullyDully and Yorksherlass you made me laugh so hard I had tears coming out of my eyes. I've seen that strange old woman in a shop mirror!

BladeAnnie Mon 04-Nov-19 16:44:12

I consider myself to be a young at heart 57 year old and people always used to compliment me on not looking anywhere near my age which was always so lovely. Then around 18 months ago I contracted sepsis, went into to septic shock and my family were told to expect the worst. But thankfully it didn't get me and I lived to tell the tale ?. However, the illness aged me terribly and I now look well older than my 57 years but in all honesty I really don't care - I'm just grateful to be alive

PamelaJ1 Mon 04-Nov-19 16:43:20

No Maggie it’s all of us.
You go to bed and when you get up it’s a different face looking back.
Suki, your oncologist could be right, grief and illness do take their toll but I have heard the 7 year droop happens to us all.

When FaceTiming, Skyping etc. Move the picture up to the top . Knocks years off you, putting it in the bottom corner is NOT a good look.

Marmight Mon 04-Nov-19 16:38:11

Tempus fugit and sadly crinkles are inevitable. It’s the saggy jowls which upset me. My chin seems to have sunk into my neck. Hate it ?. So much so that I have just invested in a little hand held instrument which promises to ‘rejuvenate & lift’ if used for 5 minutes a day. I’m a sucker I know but I’ll try anything. It hasn't arrived yet and I am filled with anticipation ?

Madmaggie Mon 04-Nov-19 16:33:49

Thanks ladies - it's not just me then thanks

GrAnne2 Mon 04-Nov-19 16:30:08

Sounds like we all feel the same - once you’re through the menopause and not producing collagen I think the sagging and lines are inevitable. Looking after our twin granddaughters (living with us for 4 days a week) from 9 months- 5 years, definitely aged my husband and me. I try to keep fit and look after my skin but the most depressing aspect is that the person in the mirror looks sadder and older than I feel inside ... However, I console myself that however old we feel we look these days, our mothers looked like this when they were only 50! Our expectations are maybe too high? Remember, your grandchildren don’t expect you to look young - they love you for being their granny!

Jaxie Mon 04-Nov-19 16:28:49

Have you noticed how FaceTime exaggerates all one's facial defects? But we are still here, and if you have kind friends and family who cares about looking like your granny.

MissAdventure Mon 04-Nov-19 16:28:28

It's not a very nice expression.
I'm going to Google it, but my guess is it means looking miserable when you're not.
