Slits - or “does my bum look big in this?”

Putting on a snuggly cowl neck tunic length jumper today made me think - nay, wish - that designers and manufacturers would think of slits at hip level. These help a top, whether T shirt, jumper or jacket to continue past the hips or bottom in a straight A line instead of curving round the aforementioned fundament. It’s all very well covering the posterior but oh how much better for a top to skim straight past it.
Anybody agree with me? What modifications would you like to see designers implement?

Jane! ? ? ⛄️

Eureka! Hooray! I told DH about this thread and guess where we're going next week? House of Bruar! Early start, one of their fantastic breakfasts then wandering around all the halls doing Christmas shopping (and one or two wee things for me!) Yippee, skips off into the distance...

MawB Wed 13-Nov-19 11:04:41

Warm is good Gonegirl !
I would take a coatigan or big cardi off before doing washing up (if I did washing up!)

Gonegirl Wed 13-Nov-19 10:53:07

Ah. you meant House of Bruar

That's just mad.

Gonegirl Wed 13-Nov-19 10:49:43

Some of the stuff's not too expensive merlot. this jumper same price as the M&S one I bought

Gonegirl Wed 13-Nov-19 10:45:04

Can't imagine doing the washing up with those sleeves. Rubber gloves wouldn't go over them.

Gonegirl Wed 13-Nov-19 10:44:00

It looks...... warm Maw. grin

MawB Wed 13-Nov-19 10:32:47

Ah well, gonegirl thank goodness we all have different tastes! smile

merlotgran Wed 13-Nov-19 09:53:54

It all looks a bit ladylike and sensible for me.

It all looks too expensive for me. grin

£140 for a gilet? shock

Gonegirl Wed 13-Nov-19 09:49:49

That's another one I can't stand. grin Sorry Maw.

Get thee behind me House of Bruar! ?
I have “rediscovered” Woolovers this year and in the light of the warnings about minute fibres shedding in the washing machine am working on weaning myself off cheap man made fibres in favour of wool.
Yes, more expensive, but one woollen jumper instead of two man made fibre items makes sense and if I can “wear” my warmth instead of turning up the heating that has to be a win-win.

Gonegirl Wed 13-Nov-19 09:41:11

Witzend!!! sadsadsad

Gonegirl Wed 13-Nov-19 09:40:12

I'd love to go, but I'm afraid our travelling up to Scotland days are over now. sad Just too much driving for DH.

Jane10 Wed 13-Nov-19 09:38:38

Keep looking gonegirl there's more than sensible stuff there! I wish you could just go. Its such a great place. The gift gallery and art department are wonderful too.
I wish it wasn't so far away. I want to go now too! It's in the middle of nowhere. A bold move by the owners but it's certainly paid off.

Witzend Wed 13-Nov-19 09:35:49

Must say I find that pure wool washes very well - as long as you don't do what I did with my new washing machine - no 'just spin' setting, so you have to fiddle and faff with the 'rinse and spin' setting. And I mis-faffed, and a nice new, LONG pure wool jumper, which I'd actually bloody well knitted in expensive yarn, ended up a badly shrunken thing fit only for the bin.
On its first wash, too! There was some very unladylike language, I can tell you.

Gonegirl Wed 13-Nov-19 09:28:28

Sorry. Can't get a link to work. It was a lambswool V-neck jumper, plain.

Gonegirl Wed 13-Nov-19 09:24:52

Perhaps "dire" was a bit strong Jane10. I mostly looked at knitwear. jumper was nice enough but I'm not convinced anything in pure wool would wash up well enough over time.

It all looks a bit ladylike and sensible for me.

Jane10 Wed 13-Nov-19 07:08:39

You don't like anything at House of Bruar gonegirl?! That's incredible. It's a huge place. They have a back section with ex catalogue clothes that they must have bought up from another stockist. It's all man-made fabrics. You might like that section but it's not for me.
The paradise cake in the food hall is amazing.

SueDonim Tue 12-Nov-19 22:36:00

I've only bought cotton from there, GoneGirl as I can't wear wool. I'm a bit bored of the last item, a pink jumper, but it seems indestructible and I've been wearing it for years and years, it seems. grin

Gonegirl Tue 12-Nov-19 22:31:18

I think I would be afraid to wash anything from that House of Bruar, all that pure wool, even if I liked anything which I don't. I think it's dire.

MawB Tue 12-Nov-19 20:05:32

Oh yes Jane10 -House if Bruar, I always feel I would like to “be” Susan Hampshire in Monarch of the Glen and that is where I would shop!
My very elegant aunt was a great fan.

Magpie1959 Tue 12-Nov-19 19:11:41

The Stock Shop have some lovely long tunic tops - with splits.
Flattering shapes and reasonably priced. Their shops are located in hospitals but all items can be bought online - www.thestockshop.co.uk

Callistemon Tue 12-Nov-19 19:07:22

Ooh, friend (Scottish) just recommended the House of Bruar too

SueDonim Tue 12-Nov-19 19:02:52

Bruar is lovely - if pricey! I haven't been there for a while, must go there with my dd one day.

Jane10 Tue 12-Nov-19 18:44:33

Argh! Slits not slots. (Unless you want pay as you go tunics!!)
