Slippers

Do you wear slippers in the house?
I do try as I appreciate the wear on carpets and, especially in the country, the muck that can be brought in and (ironically) always take my shoes off or have a pair of something else to wear at the DDs.
But at home?
I wear slippers when I get out of bed and until I am dressed but just cannot get to grips with wearing them all day! Slippers make me feel slow and a bit lumpy, even clumsy. Perhaps it is the association with total relaxation, but I cannot “work” in them!
So despite having two very nice pairs of comfortable slippers both with indoor/outdoor soles for patio use at short notice, I have now designated a pair of lightweight suede loafers which I wore in the summer as my indoor shoes.
Am I unusual?

In winter I usually wear my lovely house boots (2nd pair) from Celtic Sheepskin. Can wear them out of doors too but they have a lighter sole than their outdoor boots.

In summer it's more likely to be flip flops.
In between I have some lightweight, non-old-lady-ish slippers from Joules, present from a dd.
Or else just socks.

I wear closed toe Birkenstocks ( if I may mention them ) indoors. Handy for nipping down the garden when DH can't hear me.

If you feel you want to wear something on your feet just ware a light weight shoe, it doesn't matter what other people do it's your choice whatever makes you happy.
Hubby always wears slippers.
We never use outdoor shoes indoors.
The thought of bringing mess into our home and me having to clean it up just doesn't appeal at all.
To be honest all our friends do the same.

Some years ago I realized the skin on my feet was becoming very thin(age I guess) so to toughen it up I decided to just wear socks indoors and it as made a difference.

Not had a pair of slippers since I was about 10. Barefoot in the house. And in the garden at times.

I've got very rough feet!

I know a lot of people who prefer to wear comfortable lightweight shoes indoors rather than slippers. Or barefoot on the floor, so comfort

I wear Skecher slippers in the winter indoor and go barefoot in summer.

I paid more than I usually would for my lovely slippers. They have proper soles, are warm and comfy and I can slip them off without having to bend. I dread when they eventually wear up.

I have a pair of those too NfkDumpling, but mine are purple ?
Comfortable and practical!

I just go barefoot indoors, or wear socks if the heating hasn’t kicked in.

Carenza123 Wed 20-Nov-19 08:16:23

I have a pair of cozy pink slippers but never wear them as they get too hot for my feet. I bought two pairs of cheap ballerina style shoes in the summer - one pair in orange and another pair in gold. I always wear the gold pair in the house as slippers as they are light and comfortable but don’t scream out “granny slippers”!

Hetty58 Wed 20-Nov-19 08:21:56

I used to be always barefoot or in socks. My feet began to hurt, though, as age seems to have removed all the padding between my bones and the floor. When I go visiting now, my slippers go with me.

It's turned chilly the last few days so the indoor boots have come out. OK, they're not easy to put on or kick off - but they keep my skinny ankles warm!

Mine are a deep purple loopy, it just doesn’t show up too well on the photo. I love them!

I have allocated an old pair of Skechers to wear indoors. They have proper rubber soles as all the slippers I liked had "plastic soles" which are extremely dangerous on some carpets and floors, particularly our stairs.

Another thing for the `not allowed to do` thread, when young, we were only to wear our slippers in the bedrooms, shoes when dressed downstairs. I sometimes wear slippers now in the evening at home but it still feels a bit wrong! Don`t wear outdoor shoes indoors, most visitors comply too.

Two things I do as soon as I get in from work.

In the porch, I change out of shoes and into my comfy slippers, and then upstairs to change into my "slobby trousers" (soft jogging bottoms)

Then I'm set for the evening.

I never wear shoes in the house. That doesn't seem right somehow, but I couldn't actually put my finger on why!

Late at night, feet up, watching TV, in PJs after a soaky bath, I love to put on those thick Heat Holder socks with non-slip soles.

timetogo2016 Thu 21-Nov-19 09:28:47

Slippers indoors always.
It`s something I was bought up to do the whole family wears them.
It`s sort of a tradition I suppose.

I alwYs put my slippers on as soon as I get home. DH needs to wear good supportive shoes as he is diabetic, which I understand, but I find it really annoying that he comes straight in and does not change as it transports dirt into the bathroom, on the stair carpet etc,

loopylou Thu 21-Nov-19 10:31:14

Oops NfkDumpling ! Need to clean my glasses ?
They even go through the washing machine too!

NfkDumpling Thu 21-Nov-19 16:27:59

Really loopy? Deep joy! They last even longer! They’re the first pair of slip on slippers I’ve had that I can wear to run (metaphorically speaking) up and down the stairs in without them falling off.

Greyduster Thu 21-Nov-19 18:24:07

I always wear slippers in the house; shoes always come off at the door. I keep a pair of slippers at DD’s and when I visit anyone else I take a pair of light slip on shoes that are kept solely for indoors. I hate sitting in my socks!

Grannycool52 Thu 21-Nov-19 19:23:03

I wear Nordika leather slippers in the house. That have very good non-slip soles.

CanadianGran Thu 21-Nov-19 19:51:17

Another slipper lover...

I have a pair of Glerups, a Danish brand. They are boiled wool tops with suede soles. So comfy and not too hot. Most Canadians take off shoes at the door, it would be very rare to find someone wearing shoes indoors.

In summer I have a pair of Birkenstock sandals that rarely leave my feet. I bought them specifically for indoors, but may need another pair!

Didn't we have a very similar post last month?
