Hold ups

Do hold up stockings really "hold up"? I can`t put tights on anymore, and on special occasions don`t feel properly dressed without them.

In the middle of a street in the days when I tried to wear hold ups I found myself discreetly removing them because they were a crumpled heap around my ankles so I resembled the bag lady. They were fine for a few minutes and I tried a few different makes.

Wear trousers and socks, much more comfy.

Yes. I've had amazing Wolford ones - and also Falke. Both of these makes are fantastic BUT no body oil or creams/talc etc and hand wash.

You can sometimes find them in TKMaxx - otherwise they are mega expensive. I keep looking in mine but haven't seen any recently.

I'm sure I have M&S ones. Though I haven't bought them for ages. I quite like hold-ups and so does DH !!!

BBbevan Thu 28-Nov-19 05:23:49

Just to set the record straight. DH likes me wearing build-up. He does not wear them himself. ?

I buy them from M&S. once I found some in Wilko which were quite cheap but haven't seen them lately. Worth having a look though.
Mainly they stay up ok but as another poster said do not moisturise your legs. Probably healthier than tights.

M&S's hold up well

I used to wear them, but had the same problem as Charleygirl. Probably my upper leg muscles shrank with old age.
I wear kneehighs now.

Mine never held up either or were so tight that I had to take them off. Trousers are now my go to or long dresses for special occasions so I can wear pop socks

The best ones I EVER had were Asda, many years ago. They had THICK bands of silicone which gripped brilliantly. Then they changed them and replaced them with ones with thin strips of silicone which were useless.

I've tried expensive ones from other places, including M&S, but none have been any good.

MissAdventure Thu 28-Nov-19 12:29:48

I usually find one holds up and the other falls down.

Roses Thu 28-Nov-19 12:31:40

I wear sick shop holdops they are really good and come in nice shades. You need to order on line

Exfoliate skin on thighs e.g. with facial toner. Wipe the silicone strips with nail varnish remover or toner.

I only ever wear hold-ups (except when wearing trousers, which is more usual) and have done for years.

I used to buy M&S but then they changed their basic ones, which stayed up, for something fancier that didn't. Some of the cheaper ones are just as good.

I like mine to come right up to my bum, though, so always buy the large size. It means that the legs are good and long and aren't under strain so that they slip down. However, I know that other people disagree over that.

I bought some recently to wear to a wedding, they were round my ankles before I left the house, I switched to tights.

MissAdventure Thu 28-Nov-19 15:59:14

I must have one thin, greasy leg, and one hefty, dry one.

Make sure you don't use any moisturiser or moisturising shower gel or they will slip down .

callgirl1 Thu 28-Nov-19 23:55:57

Trousers are out for the same reason as tights, difficulty putting them on. I may have to stick with bare legs after all.

The blokes who held up our local bank recently found them more than satisfactory.
