Moisturiser, lippy, done.
Good Morning Wednesday 13th May 2026
To be really irritated by chefs over praising their own food?
A “news” item on Google today reports that Jennifer Lopez’s team took 10 hours to do her makeup for an event at the weekend.
Photographs show her in full gear and then one barefaced in a tracksuit. She looks like any pleasant suburban housewife.
Is it any wonder our teens and twenties are dissatisfied with the way they look and try to emulate their idols?
Moisturiser, lippy, done.
Five minutes.
Three seconds, and not every day - spent on daubing on lip-gloss or lipstick (sometimes) as I rush downstairs.
Ten seconds for moisturiser.
I've not worn make up for around 40 years, I'm 69 now and still don't miss wearing it. My eldest daughter doesn't wear make up either, second daughter only wears it occasionally, not sure about my son ( only kidding!!). Each to their own, and of course it saves a fortune.......
When I was younger and at work I perfected the 'four minute make-up' technique - just moisturiser, foundation, a dab of blusher and lipstick.
Now it's just Maybelline Tattoo Brow (not a tattoo, just painted on) and lip gloss, maybe lipstick for a special occasion.
Less is definitely more.
I do take a few minutes moisturizing my face. I never put make up on straight away. Makeup, including eyes, takes 5 or 6 minutes.
Less than five minutes.....Light touch of B&B foundation, powder blush, brushed eyebrow color (to even out and define them) then rose or mauve lipstick. No eye makeup unless it's a special occasion....a light touch of mascara and perhaps a bit of eye liner or soft eye shadow.
Nighttime routine, I've always avoided using any kind of soap on my face, only lukewarm water, patted dry with a cotton ball of Witch Hazel then followed by (Clinique) moisturizer. I also apply a coat of lip balm on lips and 'mustache' area (to minimize lip lines).
Powder, mascara and a bit of eye liner for a special occasion. So many are amazing at doing their makeup now and look like different people but if I tried I'd look awful, you must have to be an artist lol x
Wash face while under shower with pure vegetable soap - skin feels so beautifully clean! Quick dose of No.7 serum and a very light moisturiser. Boots mousse foundation - what a find - it covers any imperfections, stays on all day and looks light and natural.
Brows pencilled, mascara, quick twirl of blusher brush and that's it for the entire day - 'might put lipstick on if going somewhere special, but total time spent abut 5 minutes at most. Ten hours?? I would be in need of a straightjacket. She is s pretty woman so why does she need such a lengthly performance? By the time she gets to her 'occasion' it must be time to come home and clean it off again.
Tinted moisturiser, eyebrow and eyeliner pencils. 3 minutes!
Wash, vitamin c serum and caffeine under the eyes. Moisturiser then a barefaced walk or jog in fresh air to scare the neighbours. Home, then primer, foundation, concealer, lipstick eyeshadow, mascara, eyeliner, blusher. Look a hundred times better! Takes about 10 mins and makes me feel so much better.
Frequently don't bother, but when I do, 5-10 minutes, maybe 15 if for a really special occasion. Concealer, brow pencil, eyeliner pencil, powder foundation put on very lightly with a big brush, powder blusher, again lightly with a brush, mascara, lipstick and Lipcote. As I'm not used to wearing it all the time I usually forget to touch up, and <whispers> I sleep in it...
I live in the Canaries and I only use moisturiser and sun protection everyday.
I do not sunbathe specifically but putting the washing out and gardening can dry out my skin so I have to be careful.
Flygirl
I use LFF too I think it goes on much better than many of the
other makes.
I love reading her Sunday blog usually makes me feel guilty
as I can’t go out much so don’t wear any makeup in the house
I do think that for me make up what ever the make gives me
spots.
I think my skin looks better for not wearing it all the time.
When I have to give my age 75 I always get told your joking
you don’t look anything like 75 which of cause makes me feel better lol
I always put some on when going out through.
I suppose it’s habit my mum never went out without being beautifully dressed and full makeup even when money was short.
We never went without but I would love to know how my parents gave us such a good life on the money I now know was coming into the home, and never any debt.
Gosh.....don't think even 10 hours of expertise could achieve much success with me. However, confess to having learned to live with my laughter lined visage. Not a problem.
5 minutes if I am in a hurry- powder foundation- blusher.
3 different eyeshadows gradually going from light at top to dark at lashes & eyeliner. Mascara & a squirt of perfume.
I went to a wedding last week & it took me ages to put on false lashes which I used to be able to do in a trice!
Never leave the house without 'my face' on!
It's not just face makeup all those celebs have. Full body stuff depending on what they are wearing. Hair extensions, wig fittings, finger and toe nails. Then the face stuff. Some have to be sewn into outfits so that there are no creases when being worn. Ten hours, I'd be exhausted and wouldn't bother going out, I'd need to lie down. It's not a real world and unfortunately a lot of people think it is.
Ten to fifteen minutes for basic make up for work, a bit longer if I’m going to a wedding or theatre but never longer than an hour.
Probably 5 mins on minimal cosmetics - but about 20 mins on skincare routine! At 62, looking after my skin is way more important than what goes on it. Trying to wear less and less make up as I age ...
10 minutes tops, but usually moisturiser, powder, eye shadow, mascara, lippy - 5 minutes at the most.
I urge you all to take a look at Tricia Cusden's blogs. A lovely lady who is now in her 70s. Just a few years ago, she noticed a real gap in the market for make up that actually looks good on older skin (which often has the texture of blotting paper!) and started her LFF (Look Fabulous Forever) range. She was frustrated by the young twenty-somethings at make up counters trying to sell her totally inappropriate goods for her mature face and skin. Her aim is not to follow the "anti ageing" marketing trend, but to embrace the ageing process, however, striving to look the best we can be at whatever age we are.
I take 15/20 minutes to get made up, often at 02.30 in the morning, as I do early shifts as airline cabin crew. I actually enjoy the feeling of confidence it gives me, as I'm in my 60s and would not inflict my pale, bare face on anyone at that time if the morning. I like to put the effort in, and always have.
I've used Vichy tinted moisturiser lumineusse for years and I am on my last tube. I feel bereft as I have tried so many others and they are too thick/heavy. What shall I do? Paper bag over my head?
Gosh. what a lot of glamourous grans we have! I just put on a rose coloured lipstick on top lip. roll lips together so it also goes on the bottom lip, add a little day cream and I'm done.
Moisturiser and lip salve, if you can call that make up! 30 seconds. Used to wear a bit of brown eye shadow and mascara and a touch of lippy back in my 20s and early 30s but that was many moons ago! Used to take me about 5 minutes to put on. Never wore foundation or powder or blusher. For my age, 63 now, I think I have pretty good skin and people very often think I am way younger than I am, so I'm happy for that.
