So, how long does your make up take?

A “news” item on Google today reports that Jennifer Lopez’s team took 10 hours to do her makeup for an event at the weekend.
Photographs show her in full gear and then one barefaced in a tracksuit. She looks like any pleasant suburban housewife.
Is it any wonder our teens and twenties are dissatisfied with the way they look and try to emulate their idols?

zero minutes

Wash face, slap on factor 30 moisturiser as I now have a dry skin (used to be really oily). That’s it. If we’re off somewhere posh I may put on a bit of eye liner smudged in.

As I wear specs I don’t look much different anyway and no make up will get rid of my saggy jowls and treble chins.

I asked Hubby how long he thinks I take, he says I take about 2mins, Maybe 3 for special occasions.
Perhaps I need to re access, see if it makes much difference if I take a bit longer ?

Five to ten mins, depending on where I am going.
Less is more when older, but a little looks better than none.

Same as Calendargirl.

Willow500 Wed 05-Feb-20 14:16:04

Probably about 5 mins - serum, moisturiser, primer, foundation, dab of concealer on a scar, eyebrow pencil, eyeshadow, mascara and lipstick.

TrendyNannie6 Wed 05-Feb-20 14:11:53

10 hours!! 5 mins me. Foundation mascara lipstick nothing else

DanniRae Wed 05-Feb-20 14:07:33

Some moisturiser - if I remember - and I am done smile

I take a bit longer than most of you. I've worn make up since I was a teenager (now 68) and, for the most part, wouldn't go out without it. My daily routine each morning (while my granddaughters are being supervised by my DH before school) is (deep breathe) a drop of Superstart base on face and neck, let soak for a minute or so, then a drop of anti-ageing serum (soak), then a Ceramide oil capsule over face, neck and decollete, finished off with an anti-ageing cream. I'll also add some eye cream if I remember. These only take a moment each, but I do like to let them soak in a little between getting dressed. Then I put foundation, blusher, eyeshadow, mascara and lipstick. I'll add eyeliner if I'm going out at night. It sounds a lot, but it rarely takes more than ten minutes or so and isn't heavy. My Mum (now 93) wouldn't answer the door without 'her face' on as I grew up and I guess I'm just used to it. I do like to take pride in my appearance and have many compliments. I wouldn't get any if folk saw me without!

10/15 mins. Concealer, foundation mixed with moisturiser (Estee Lauder) 50/50 as full strength foundation looks caked and dry on my skin in my 50s, nude eyeshadow (mac) , mascara (Clinique) blusher, (Avon) and lip gloss (Avon again) I always wear make up if I leave the house, I looked washed out otherwise

ninathenana Wed 05-Feb-20 13:13:31

Swish of powder, lick of mascara and brow pencil for every day 5 mins.
Night out more products 25-30 mins.
I hate sitting for 10 hrs having people fussing over me.

SueDonim Wed 05-Feb-20 13:08:16

Under 10 minutes. My routine is serum, followed by foundation (applied with a brush, as it looks lighter on the skin and is more economical), eye liner and lipstick. A spritz of perfume and I’m ready to go!

Alexa Wed 05-Feb-20 13:00:20

The time I take depends on how accurately I draw eyebrows on my face so they match. Sometimes I have to rub off and begin again.

Can somebody tell me the best way to sharpen cajal eyebrow pencils?

TwiceAsNice Wed 05-Feb-20 12:34:28

I only wear makeup on the days I go to work or for something special in the evening. Even then it only takes 4-5 minutes. Moisturiser, light foundation, brush on a dusting of powder, quick brush of eyeshadow and some lipstick. Non working days it’s only moisturiser and lipstick or lipgloss. Do like a spray of perfume though

KatyK Wed 05-Feb-20 11:58:33

10 hours? Ten seconds here.

ClaraB Wed 05-Feb-20 11:49:48

About 5 minutes. No. 7 Serum, Mac foundation and concealer, a bit of Mac blusher, No.7 pressed powder, Clinique lipstick. Often I only wear the lipstick. I've heard you're not noticed over the age of 45 anyway.

Teetime Wed 05-Feb-20 11:44:42

I take between 5 to ten minutes but spend more time on skin care than make up. I wouldnt leave the house without some make up on though but a light touch and I enjoy doing it - makes me feel better.

Dee1012 Wed 05-Feb-20 11:43:59

On average days, maybe 3/4 minutes. I don't wear foundation so it's really moisturiser, some mascara and a little lip colour / blusher, I use the Stila one which is fantastic.
For a night out....a little more time but nothing more that 10/15 mins' at the most.

Elegran Wed 05-Feb-20 11:43:09

A few seconds. Moisturiser then lip salve. On "special occasions" a bit longer with a small amount of tinted moisturiser/foundation over the worst parts and the eyebrows completed with a soft grey pencil (because they fade out after about the centre of each eye and give me the Mr Spock look. Most of the time I don't care ) Mascara and eye-shadow in make my eyes water and go red, not improving the effect, so I gave up on them long ago.

annsixty Wed 05-Feb-20 11:32:18

That should read Aldi serum.

annsixty Wed 05-Feb-20 11:31:28

As I asked the question I should answer it.
On the 6 days out of 7 I don't leave the house, my morning routine is Adi serum followed by whatever moisturiser I am currently using.
On the 7th day my moisturiser is replaced by a tinted one with a lipstick swipe.
One minute tops,
I have never taken much longer than that even for an evening.

M0nica Wed 05-Feb-20 11:22:15

Moisteriser, which I spend several minutes massaging in to my face, foundation, blusher, translucent powder, eyebrow pencil, eye-shadow and mascara, probably another 4-5 minutes = under 10 minutes.

pollyperkins Wed 05-Feb-20 10:56:29

30 seconds - bit of pressed powder (can’t bear feel of foundation ) lipstick, done

eazybee Wed 05-Feb-20 10:50:22

Cleanse, tone, nourish plus light sunscreen foundation;
eyeshadow, pencil eyeliner, mascara, lipstick, no blusher any more;
full five minutes, plus another five to attempt to 'brush in' eyebrows then wipe off the result.
A friend's daughter (35) spends an hour doing her make-up every morning, getting up at 5 am to do so before she deals with her child. She works in central London with much younger women; actually looks far better with less make-up but can't see it.

Witzend Wed 05-Feb-20 10:45:13

Maybe 3 mins. Concealer for shadows under eyes, which never go no matter how much sleep I manage.
Soft pencil just under lower lashes, mascara, lippy, just a soft gloss. A dab of that on cheeks and rubbed in if I’m looking more than usually washed out.

I hate the feel of any sort of foundation, so never wear it, just moisturiser, though it might well be be a considerable improvement if I did.
