So, how long does your make up take?

A “news” item on Google today reports that Jennifer Lopez’s team took 10 hours to do her makeup for an event at the weekend.
Photographs show her in full gear and then one barefaced in a tracksuit. She looks like any pleasant suburban housewife.
Is it any wonder our teens and twenties are dissatisfied with the way they look and try to emulate their idols?

5 minutes.

anxiousgran Fri 07-Feb-20 22:42:50

First read it as 10 minutes. I thought, wow she’s expert with makeup to go out like that after 10 minutes.

Alikelly Fri 07-Feb-20 20:59:17

Five minutes or about fifteen for a wedding or an important social event.

Clinique powder compact all-in-one base which is so lovely and easy to apply.

I agree it's great stuff grannysue

I’ve always worn eye make up since I was 16, now 60. But this last year I have been suffering with blepharitis, red, sore, dry, cracked eyelids, so have had to scale back and have more make up free days. Has anyone else suffered with this and does it ever clear up?

3 minutes at absolutely most including hair ? 10 hours would be time to take it off again
Bit of foundation eyeliner mascara and lippy and off

Harri1 Fri 07-Feb-20 11:04:10

Magnetic eyelashes? I’ve been fooled so many times with things that look easy on the add ???

LadyGracie Fri 07-Feb-20 09:25:18

30 seconds bit of blusher and eye shadow, done.

henetha Fri 07-Feb-20 09:22:43

5 minutes at most. A bit of tinted moisturiser, a sweep or two of mascara, - if i'm in all day. If I'm out to lunch or something then maybe a tiny bit of blusher (I don't want to look like a clown!) and possibly some eyeshadow. My eyebrows are disappearing so a few strokes with a brow pencil sometimes.
I like a bit of make-up; it cheers me up.

Saggi Fri 07-Feb-20 09:16:25

I’m with calendargirl , no time at all as I’ve never worn make-up. Never understood people wanting to look like clowns when they could look like themselves!

Eye cream, serum, moisturiser, lip balm every morning. Three minutes, including settling time for the first two while I brush my teeth.

If facing the public, concealer, blusher, bronzer, eyeliner, mascara, lipliner and lippy. Another two minutes.

For a big night out I’ll add foundation and eyeshadow and spend ten minutes in all.

QuaintIrene Fri 07-Feb-20 08:24:16

About 5 minutes for me.
Elemis day cream
Bare minerals foundation
Clinique mascara, blusher and nude chubby stick.
Estée Lauder eyeliner for brows and eyes. Best I’ve used, ever and stays put.
I don’t bother if I’m not going out. Used to spend hours putting my face on when I was going out on a date. Loved it.

Blimey! I shower, clean my teeth then moisturise my feet (psoriasis needs keeping at bay) , moisturise my face and I'm good to go. Clothes on first of course.

timetogo2016 Fri 07-Feb-20 08:05:27

Less than 2 minutes as I only put eye liner on.
I wouldn`t recognise most so called celebs without makeup.

dragonfly46 Fri 07-Feb-20 07:58:46

Gillyjp Clinique day cream and CC cream have the sun block built in.

gillyjp Fri 07-Feb-20 07:50:27

5-10 mins depending on where I'm going during the day. If I'm not doing anything specific I dont bother and my face gets a rest. One thing I do ensure (even in winter) is the application of factor 50 sun block on my face and backs of hands. Nothing more aging than brown spots on those places. Not many on this thread have mentioned applying factor 50 and I believe it is important in fighting the ageing process. Vitamin D tablets if you use sun block for obvious reasons.

Goodness me.I take about five minutes, I have never worn foundation or powder,I use mascara and lipstich, blusher if going somewhere special.
My Granddaughters take for ever with different layers,I couldnt cope and would fell suffocated.
A sign of age I suppose, and different generations.

oldgimmer1 Thu 06-Feb-20 21:30:58

Around ten minutes, including scraping yesterday's off. grin.

For me it's;

Wash and prime.
Foundation.
Lip pencil.
Eyes - shadow only.
Lipstick.
Powder
Blush.

Esther1 Thu 06-Feb-20 21:03:33

A couple of minutes, but I take longer and more care on a special occasion. moisturiser, concealer stick on my horrid brown spots, whoosh over a skim of foundation to blur freckles then a swirl of powder blusher. Colour in my eye brows a bit where they’re balding, and a faint stick eye shadow across my lids and a dab or two under my lower lashes. Sometimes mascara and sometimes not - if I rub my eyes I look like a panda. I look marginally less washed out by doing this every morning I like to think.

Jimjam1 Thu 06-Feb-20 20:47:47

Tinted moisturiser when I go out to walk my dog in the morning. If I’m meeting friends for lunch I make a lot more effort. A hint for lip and eye pencils. Put them in the freezer overnight and you will be able to sharpen them next morning without them breaking and smudging.

123kitty Thu 06-Feb-20 20:38:07

I really enjoy putting my make up on every morning, it makes me feel happy and ready to face the day.

dragonfly46 Thu 06-Feb-20 18:37:19

Five minutes. Never go out without
Clinique day cream and CC tinted moisturiser
Eye shadow from look Fabulous for Ever
Clinique mascara and blusher
Mac Eyebrow tint

Strangely I am more upset losing my lashes from chemo than my hair. I can wear a wig but cannot master false eyelashes!

0wlfred Thu 06-Feb-20 18:32:00

Totally agree with Calendargirl - life's too short and how long have we got left anyway!

f77ms Thu 06-Feb-20 18:23:43

10 mins these days. A bit of foundation, eye liner, eye shadow and mascara. Sometimes if I'm extra pale a touch of blusher but always lippy. It's all quite minimal but makes a huge difference to the way I look and feel. Colour my hair too, I've no idea what colour it would be if I left it, possibly grey by now. It was auburn but it's now light reddy brown which doesn't wash my very pale completion out.

Brigidsdaughter Thu 06-Feb-20 17:41:16

2 minutes to pencil eyebrows carefully. Quick touch of lip paint occasionally
