Anyone still going to hairdresser?

I cancelled my appointment because I'm afraid of putting my head back to be washed giving the opportunity for germs to go onto my face from hairdresser above me. My area of the UK has a low incidence of C19 and I am fit and well albeit self distancing and staying at home unless absolutely necessary to venture out. Have other Grans been keeping hair appts? My hair is driving me mad and long overdue for a cut and blow so I would welcome yr kind thoughts or experiences?

Just as bread flour and yeast are being snaffled up by people who have previously never had any intentions of baking their own bread, I suppose hair colouring kits are going the same way.

There will be some interesting results when we all finally emerge from our caves. grin

The family fashionista (DGD1) is now at home with her family - all in self-isolation. Her talents as a professional film make-up and hair artist will no doubt be appreciated. She also makes period wigs so if she gets bored, DD might end up looking like Elizabeth in Poldark!

I'll have to make do with her advice on facetime. shock

Oopsadaisy grin

I mentioned this to DH last week, as I go regularly for a colour with foils.

Oh! He said, can’t you get something from Tesco?

Like what? Large brown paper bags big enough to put my head in?

Men......

Oopsadaisy3 Sat 21-Mar-20 15:46:24

Am I so vain that I’ll risk catching the virus and potentially pass it on to DH who is already unwell?

Nope. Let’s hope the Badger look becomes me, sadly I don’t think it will.

I cancelled my hair appointment. I may look like the wild woman of the woods in a few months but I don't care. Rather stay safe

I was supposed to be going to the little salon in the village for lip, brow and chin waxing today.

The staff have sensibly decided to shut down for the time being. Contact is pretty close for these treatments!

I have some wax strips in the bathroom cupboard, bought with the intention of DIY treatments, but so far unused blush

Perhaps I will give them a go, either that or see if moustache wax is available on Amazon!

Its common sense isn't it just don't go and put yourself or others at risk,I went two weeks ago for a cut and the 10 inches I had cut off will have grown back by the time I go again,I just keep trimming my fringe and hope it looks straight enough.

Husband's hair that should read

Daisymae Sat 21-Mar-20 15:17:49

No, not going. Actually cut my hair yesterday. Luckily no one will be seeing him for a while......

My Mother in laws (87) main worry when we told her she must stay in and not have visitors was ‘but I can still have my ladies in to do my hair and nails can’t I. Not happy with us when we said NO !Luckily on Friday her doctors surgery rang and said there were two local cases and on no account was she to have people in or visit anyone. It’ very sensible now the doctor has said so !
We will be waving through her window tomorrow, taking a flask of tea and conversing on our ‘phones.

I had my past shoulder length hair cut into a blunt bob 5 weeks ago, I guess I will be back to long and shaggy by the summer.

If the grey coming through is nice and even I may even stop having highlights/lowlights and stay grey.

Local salons are closing today anyway.

Our district has ordered a complete shutdown of all pubs, clubs, and a long list of everything including hairdresser's. I hope they don't all go bust.

I have (had) an appointment next week. I shall wait to hear from her when she is allowed to reopen.

Eglantine I was just thinking that I cannot bear one more thread about people wanting to be told they can do things they damn well know they shouldn’t. None of us are individuals at the moment - every thing we do that increases risk, potentially impacts others, not just ourselves. You know we could live in a world that could throw the older and more vulnerable people under a bus to save the economy. But we don’t - most people want us to live, regardless of the financial price to others . The least we can do is stop wittering on about the things that really don’t matter. I just want to be here so that in whatever time scale I can hug again my family and friends.

I’m upset for my hairdresser who I’ve known since she was a little girl - her family unit will really be suffering financially. ( I’ll make sure I give her an enormous tip if and when I next go and if her business survives)

Whitewavemark2 Sat 21-Mar-20 14:41:05

I don’t see that eglatine there are some questioning the necessity, but most have the intelligence enough to understand the reasons behind the need to change our behaviour

Eglantine21 Sat 21-Mar-20 14:39:53

My got as well just have let the virus run it’s course and killed off all the stupid, stubborn old people. Grrr.

Our home hairdresser is due to come this week. Am thinking, if dry, might sit in garden for quick trim (no colour); same for DH. What do you think?

J52 Sat 21-Mar-20 14:36:44

I went yesterday, the salon owner is working on his own and only for pre booked appointments. Everything cleaned between clients and he has upgraded masks.

Eglantine21 Sat 21-Mar-20 14:36:38

There’s no way you can maintain social distance at the hairdressers.
What is the point of all this action to keep older people safe when they just won’t help themselves.

This is the me, me, me generation.

I’m going to have to come off Gransnet for a while. All this “but I just want to do it’ is making me despair.

grannyrebel7 Sat 21-Mar-20 14:36:25

Think I'll grow mine even longer but if it gets too bad I'll try the pony tail thing. I do my own colour anyway. Definitely not going to the hairdressers! Health is much more important.

Charleygirl5 Sat 21-Mar-20 14:32:55

BlueBelle that sounds sensible. I think one will be able to count on one hand the number of smart hairdos in 4 months time!

nanaK54 Sat 21-Mar-20 14:30:39

I usually have a trim every three weeks, short hair, but no I wouldn't even consider a visit to hairdressers

Hetty58 Sat 21-Mar-20 14:30:18

Very wise WW2!

Violettham Sat 21-Mar-20 14:30:10

Me too tanith

BlueBelle Sat 21-Mar-20 14:29:56

I went on Saturday at 8.30 just me and the hairdresser we both did the hand sanitizer before and after so I m hopeful we neither did anything bad I have another 8 15 app in a month I ll just have to see what’s happening by then otherwise I m certainly staying in 90% of the time and keeping my distance at all other times
I am on the list for age only I have no underlying health problems

janeainsworth Sat 21-Mar-20 14:29:43

I’ve already cancelled my appointment on April 2nd.

I can’t find it now, but I saw a video on YouTube once about how to do it yourself.
My hairstyle is a layered, chin length bob.

The technique involves drawing your hair into a ponytail on the top of your head, slightly to one side.
Cut straight across, take ponytail out and you have a layered hairdo.
I shall try it anyway. I shan’t bother with colour though & it will be interesting to see how bad it looks in 6 months’ time. grin
