No more hair colour

I had considered going grey for a while but I was going to wait until after my daughter’s wedding in late May. Now that’s been postponed till next June and I have not had any colour on my hair for four months I’m going to continue to grow the colour out and see how it goes. Hopefully it will look ok with my wedding outfit still (baby blue). I can always change my mind

I have thick silver white hair (used to be auburn) which always gets compliments. I think that’s maybe the secret of not
colouring - having a good head of well styled hair.

Don’t forget people wore white wigs in the 18th century because they were so flattering to the complexion! Nothing is more ageing than dyed dark hair against an older face.

I am also considering stopping having my hair coloured. I will wait and see what the natural colour is when the colour has all grown out. The bits at the parting and sides are a nice colour but sometimes people have dark patches underneath. I told the hairdresser what I was planning she said a lot of her customers are doing the same. It’s worth a try as I have had my hair coloured for over 20 years. Once I find out what the over all colour will be I can consider whether to leave it be, have it coloured again, have a semi-permanent colour or low lights. One thing I will continue with is having my eyebrows tinted as they are disappearing.

I do my roots myself every couple of weeks L'oreal Excellence, seems to do quite a good job for me, once I've done it I'm happy with it for a week or so. I'll keep it up, I'm hoping to get a hairdresser I know to come and do my highlights and cut it at home in the not too distant future, but she's madly busy at the moment understandably so don't know when that will be. I think grey hair can look fabulous, particularly on darker olive skin tones, so I won't say I don't like it but I think I'll keep going with the fakery for the time being.

No, I don’t like grey hair at all, I find it aging and I have no plans to ever go grey - maybe if my hair is pure white by 80 I’ll consider that, but never grey (I do like it for cars, and walls though).

I was already grey/white before lockdown and I love it. But I've decided to grow out my short layered style by triming it myself until it's all one length, hopefully like a bob, then returning to my hairdresser next Spring for her to restyle it, somehow.

I’d already begun to go a lot lighter than my natural brown and stopped dying it that colour. Since lockdown I’ve just let it grow and not coloured it. It’s pretty light now and I won’t go back to colouring it.

I went grey early and now have nearly white hair, age 62.
I found that dyes were irritating my scalp and the fringe turned back to grey in less than two weeks so I went for it. No regrets. I have a short pixie cut which is so easy to look after.
Many people compliment the colour and have asked over the years where I have it done.

I’m struggling with this decision also. Originally dark now silver and blond highlights with 3/4 inches of pepper and salt root growth. Had planned to grow it out gradually but now thinking I’ll just take a leap and get it all off. Hairdressers in Scotland aren’t open yet so I may change my mind

I embraced grey eight years ago. Love it. Got loads of compliments.

I was dark brown so roots were done regularly. Struggled to do it myself so it was expensive going to hairdressers. I didn't stop because of that though

I found, looking at photographs past and present, the dark colour didn't suit my skin colour. It had changed over the years. I was in my early 60s.

Stopped doing anything like that years ago and never regretted it - the natural look. After all, it's what's inside that really matters.

I toyed with the idea of letting it grow out, as there didn't seem a great difference in 'tone' between roots and coloured hair, but a closer look, with a pair pf mirrors showed that I only have grey on a 'halo' round the front and the back is still quire dark. So when I was texted by my stylist offering an appointment for 'cut and colour' I took it - blond and caramel highlights next week.

I just wish my hair would hurry up and turn grey all over!

It is grey, brown and nearly black in streaks and strips, oh, and silver too!

I've been stuck at this stage for five years.

I have considered not colouring again but I'm not completely grey yet and the effect is a bit of a mix of grey and what looks a rather dull brown. Strange as I was a golden/gingery colour originally.
I also have very thin fine hair and it doesn't seem to look as shiny or good so will probably colour again.

I have a friend in her 70's who has been grey for at least 10 years and she has taught me that the most important thing is to have your hair cut well. I've seen her in a short and spikey "rock chick" do and now she has a short, sleek bob. She always looks very stylish. It's when the hair is both grey and "all over the place" that it can look ageing, I think. I've recently made an appointment for a cut but I won't be having it coloured again (the colour has almost faded now anyway - I like it).

My colour has obviously grown out since lockdown. Have short hair and usually have blonde highlights put in not an all over colour. Since the highlights are now gone it’s now silver but I have noticed it’s a very different texture to what it was before.
Has anyone else noticed this when they embraced their grey I find it more difficult to manage , although have conditioned it more and used hair mask to tide me over until I get to hairdressers.

Yep - off to the hairdressers at 1.45 - can’t wait for more colour - even though I have been doing it at home - it’s not the same though nice to be pampered. I am a bit dubious about going though as haven’t been out much just to do food shop first time last week. I have my mask - hand gel - antiseptic wipes - will take a drink just in case they don’t make one - and iPad - can’t think of anything else !! Seems a bit over the top but that I am told are the rules - whether it will be like that remains to be seen!!
Just like to say I am always a day late in posting as I never seem to get anything until the next day ! Not sure why !!

My natural hair colour is white and I went white in my early 30s from a mousy brown (don’t know why!). When I was younger I used to have ‘streaks’ - remember them? Your hair was pulled through a plastic cap with what looked like a crochet hook.. I now reverse the process and have dark ‘streaks’ now known as highlights, of course. My hairdresser loves my white hair and thinks I should embrace it and use a purple conditioner to bring out the whiteness even more, but I feel that it makes me looked washed out. I had my non-existent eyebrows tattooed medium brown a while ago and the highlights match my brows!!! I think this is a far better look than white hair and no eyebrows!

I have an appointment for 23 July and can’t wait to get some colour back in. Maureen Lipman springs to mind. Her hair is grey and she has dark highlights and I think she looks fab.

I thought about it,but when my hairdresser rang me I was so pleased,and arranged to have my colour done.I'm 69 and really should let my hair go grey,there's no hope for me.

I had to do something about my hair when I went back to work, long before hairdressers reopened. I dyed it myself with great results. Needs doing again now ?

Mine is only grey at the front of my hairline, further back it seems to have gone darker and thinner. I was very pleased to have the blond streaks put in, it lightens up my skin. Lucky you if your whole head of hair goes the same colour at the roots at the same time.

Depends on your colour. My uncoloured hair is a harsh steely, Brillo pad grey which is very ageing. A pretty silver or white would be flattering. So I’m keeping the colour. x
