Has anyone else felt that they have let them self go a bit during this time?
I always used to put on make up and cared about I dressed.
I seem to live in lounge and comfortable clothing now.
Buying online for clothes has not been a good experience. Must always check that it’s free postage to return items!
I really don’t want to get old before my time, arghhh!

I've always worn makeup and tried to look nice but after Christmas I had a breakdown, I totally lost interest in how I looked even when I went back to work, my lovely friend in work gave me a good talking to and I started price in my appearance

I haven't changed, just wear more casual stuff as I'm at home a lot more.

These days, I just have to be comfortable. Bras are like shoes - just for going out.

Now it's autumn, I can start wearing my favourite gilets, then no bra is needed. Make up is only for days out, events and meet-ups, very rare atm!

JaneRn Thu 10-Sept-20 17:32:36

I do not own any of the "comfort" clothes - leggings, sweat shirts, jogging trousers etc, and I absolutely loath jeans, but I can see the attraction. However. not having any I am wearing much the same clothes as I would normally wear which is trousers and skirts in various weights according to the weather plus a variety of tops.

I would normally wear make-up but now just tinted moisturiser or suncream and lipstick. plus a night cream.I think my skin has actually got better since lockdown. I always wear perfume - ran out of my favourite but was able to get it online.

I think not wearing a bra is a very bad idea, but if you don't mind your boobs coming to rest on your stomach go ahead!

I don’t see the point of wearing makeup at home if you are not going out or seeing anyone
I only wear some if going out to meet friends etc.

I don’t mind putting it on, it’s the taking it all of at the end of the day. It’s tiresome, so don’t bother mostly.
My face has caught the sun and I look a little healthier.

Slack Alice? oh yes as I have rarely worn a bra since lockdown, they are SO uncomfortable for me, and people on zoom cannot see my droopy front if I angle the camera properly. It is bliss to be honest.

I have some smart casual lounge type pyjamas, so I often wear them in the day (clean ones) if not going out.

When meeting friends etc I do dress as I used to, casual trousers, vest tops, colourful floaty shirt etc. I have not worn eye make up for some years as it aggravates my dry eye condition. A tiny bit of fake tan or tinted moisturiser. I'm done. I have certainly not bought as many clothes as normal, nor shoes.

If I’m having a visitor I will wear a bit of lipstick, but I’ve never worn eye make-up anyway. The thing I am really fussy about is clean hair. I wash it every other day whether I’m seeing anybody or not.

Ain't that the truth! smile

Tinker18 Thu 10-Sept-20 16:09:17

Some call it letting yourself go; I call it setting myself free smile

Greeneyedgirl Thu 10-Sept-20 16:02:45

Jane10 I just love the Slack Alices idea. No more slaves to the tyranny of beauty and fashion. Out with superficial carapace and in with ease and comfort. Just be dependent on our scintillating personalities grin.

micky987 Thu 10-Sept-20 15:46:39

I do my hair and makeup everyday. Always have, even though I recently took early retirement. I couldn’t face the day without it. I always dress nicely even if I'm not leaving the house And as for leisure wear!?! Really?!? I wouldn’t even consider it. Id feel that I’ve let myself go. Maybe some of you look good in it but it’s definitely not for me, no way Jose...

Joesoap Thu 10-Sept-20 15:18:34

I wear the same clothes as I did before lock down, nice tee shirts and decent jeans.I never really wear make up only mascara and lipstick.I still wear mascara but not lipstck so often, except if I am going out to the shops, forgotten my perfume, thanks for reminmding me.

Parsley3 Thu 10-Sept-20 14:58:35

I had to have a stern word with myself when I realised that I had been mooching around all day in a fleece with a big splodge of toothpaste down the front. Since then I have made an effort to be at least clean and tidy.
I have just bought a lovely dress from Hobbs in the hope of one day having a reason to wear it. Hope, of course, springing eternal.

StephLP Thu 10-Sept-20 14:51:01

No point in lipstick when you have to wear a face mask! Learnt this first time I wore my white cotton home made mask - still trying to wash out the pillar box red lipstick! smile

Jane10 Thu 10-Sept-20 14:47:59

Ooh yes. We could call ourselves the 'Slack Alices'? Sweatshirts and tracky bottoms are our uniforms and bare are our faces!

Greeneyedgirl Thu 10-Sept-20 14:02:54

Let’s start the Let yourself go gang *Jane10?

Jane10 Thu 10-Sept-20 13:24:44

Well I've let myself go with a resounding twang! No more make up, stretchy waistbands and rugby tops for me. I do shower and wash my hair from time to time. Mostly there's only the cat to see me and he thinks I look great!

trustgone4sure Thu 10-Sept-20 13:16:23

Me too Chrisks.
And i don`t care what anybody thinks either.
Dh is the same and strangly my son`s and their wives haven`t said a word.
It`s nice to feel comfortable all day and night.

SparklyGrandma Thu 10-Sept-20 13:04:12

We are back in lockdown here in Wales. When I went out anywhere before Covid it would be in smart dress or trousers, hair very tidy, proper shoes.

My outfit since March, in the house, are M&S straight leg joggers, so lovely and comfy, and cotton crew neck tops in lavender, blue, green etc. All go in the wash, dried then back on. Chrisks it might be a lowering of standards, but boy does it feel comfortable!

Greeneyedgirl Thu 10-Sept-20 12:54:51

I would love not to wear a bra, but sadly wouldn’t look pretty, or even respectable. I wear jeans all the time, occasional eye makeup, moisturiser, sun block and have odd dress or long skirt for occasional use. No change in lockdown really.

lizzypopbottle Thu 10-Sept-20 12:44:34

I don't think I'd forget to get dressed if I went shopping, MayBee70, but I do take my dogs into the garden while I'm still in my jimjams and the same neighbour hailed me over the garden fence and witnessed my deshabille all over again.

Iam64 Thu 10-Sept-20 12:39:49

I rarely wear make up and during lock down I think I've once put tinted moisturiser and mascara on. It was a faff to clean off so I may not bother again.
When I was working, formal clothes were necessary. Since I retired its been largely jeans and t shirts/sweat shirts. Going out Id wear linen frocks or trousers with a good top. I fear a slippery slope and that my evening casuals of loose cotton pants and baggy tops may become regular.

MayBee70 Thu 10-Sept-20 12:26:01

loose, not loos.....

MayBee70 Thu 10-Sept-20 12:25:30

The only time I change out of my pyjamas is when I walk the dog and as soon as I get in I change back into my pyjamas that are loos, cotton and very comfortable. I do wonder sometimes if I’ll forget altogether and go out in my pyjamas . Can’t remember the last time I bothered with make up. In the past (pre Covid) it always surprised me if someone recognised me if I was out and about and not wearing make up. What I do find upsetting these days is that I don’t actually look much better when wearing make up. What I have started doing though (even in the house) is putting some foundation and touché eclat on the dark shadows under my eyes which does make me look less like an old crone.

CBBL Thu 10-Sept-20 12:15:05

I'm with WoodLane7 and never wore makeup, except for special occasions. As I am also retired (for more) than 10 years, I don't have any need to smarten up for work! Sadly, since our favourite eating place will remain closed for the foreseeable, as it's too small to be "Covid Secure" - I haven't had any reason to dress smartly since the start of lockdown! I don't own jog pants or similar leisure wear - but I do wear jeans to go shopping.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 10-Sept-20 12:06:58

I don't think I've changed too much during lockdown, apart from a few extra pounds in weight - all sadly due to over-indulgence. For my own self respect I simply can't go about in nightwear all day unless I'm very poorly. I must dress for comfort and hopefully some style. Just because I'm on the wrong side of sixty I don't want to look like a bag of washing.
