Eyeshadow help!

I've treated myself to a new eyeshadow palette but really need some help with applying it.

At the moment all I do is apply one colour to the lower part of the lid but I feel I am wasting all the lovely colours and could do more.

Does anyone know of videos or have tips to help me be a bit more creative (but not look like a clown! grin).

There are lots on You Tube but they can be a bit OTT with the number of products used. As I understand it its primer first, then a wash all over up to the eyebrow with the lightest colour and the darkest colour applied to the lid itself- perhaps a little glitter/sheen on top for evening. I dont wear eyeliner as I feel its too harsh for me but if you did I'm not sure whether you put that on last or first. Send us a photo when you have done it.

As TT says, use a primer (dab on with fingers, not too much. Allow to sink in for a moment). Then definitely use 2 or even 3 colours from the same palette (e. g. Cream, fawn, brown). Apply the light one first over the whole area, then the lighter brown in the fold and the darkest colour on the lid itself. Smudge with fingers or brush to prevent it looking like 'painting by numbers". Fix with a light dusting of loose face powder.

When I was working in a "proper" job, a couple of colleague's would compliment me on my eye make up. blush

I used a pale colour on the inner section of the lid, (the bit nearer to your nose) and a darker one from the middle to the outer edge, then flicked an applicator or cotton bud across the middle to blend.

Avon used to do a shadow duo for the "mature" woman that contained 2 colours designed to work together.

I've always admired women who can wear that dark smokey eye look, but it looks all wrong and heavy on me and I just stick to a little bit of kohl and mascara.

I'll tell you what a friend told me many years ago for palettes. The lightest colour usually works well as a brow bone highlighter.....if you want a highlight.
The second-lightest colour looks good on your lid.
The second darkest colour works well in your crease.
The darkest colour is for the outer corner (from your nose) or as a liner, smudge close to the eyelashes.
Placement can also differ depending on your eye shape i.e my eyes are hooded, I tend to use a matte taupe colour in the crease and slightly lighter shade on the lid. For a special occasion...I apply the darkest shade on the outer corner. I make a “V” shape at the beginning and blend it. I use the same colour on the lower lash line as well.

I'm going to contradict the poster who suggested face powder.
It is a devil for making laughter lines look worse.
